  1. Physical Exam at ODS

This is mainly for those who have been through ODS. How detailed is the Medical exam at ODS, is it like MEPS or just a standard Utox/Alcohol test? Thanks for everyone's time. Oh please don't post negative answers or assume anything. Just a nice, i...
  2. Persistence is paying off...

I was informed tonight that I was professionally recommended by the October Navy board for direct commission. Not out of the woods yet but this has been an incredibly tough process. This community solidified my resolve and helped me with keeping hop...
  3. Physical Exam at ODS

Thanks for the replies thus far, one way to look at it too is it's out of my hands, I just need to suck it up. Navyman, if you could find that schedule that'd be cool, I'm curious what the agenda looks like.
  4. Physical Exam at ODS

Well one of the reasons is that I'm tired of physical exams. I've been through two MEPS experiences and I'm done...
  5. Persistence is paying off...

Army base eh? Be easy on them... :]
  6. ODS questions

I'd shave it. If you positively have to have a mustache, feel them out and if you feel it's safe grow it back. I know you want to maintain a little piece of you, but if you're out of regs...so is your shipmate. Take from someone who went through e...
  7. Direct Commission into Navy Nurse Corps

Depends. I put a timeline up regarding my experience. From your Prorec to final select it could be 2 weeks to 1 month. From your finsel to ODS it could be another month or so. You have to understand that it's the holidays and vacations and extend...
  8. Persistence is paying off...

Signed my COMDOCS on Wednesday 10/7/11 and received my official 12 x 16 letter from the Secretary of the Navy on Thursday 10/8/11, need one more physical prior to ODS. High Fiber diet and P90x for the next couple months for me!
  9. Direct Commission into Navy Nurse Corps

Congrats, so you got your ProRec today?
  10. MEPS date

Not very long, MEPS is like a factory with conveyor belts. The biggest hold up is filling out the prescreening form.
  11. Persistence is paying off...

Nice! I have another shipmate for ODS!
  12. Persistence is paying off...

I know he's chipping away at the final selects. When I left him a message/email, I politely asked where I was in his queue, so that I can focus on a day rather than a random call. He called me a couple days later and we hammered out my duty station...
  13. Persistence is paying off...

    Thanks Lunah! :]
  14. Best Specialty Experience Option?

    I should've put a disclaimer. I'm very biased. :]
  15. Best Specialty Experience Option?

It's more what your style is. If fast paced to you seems "unsafe" than it might not be a good fit. For me personally I became an ER nurse because I want to be where the action is and maintain my military bearing when crap hits the fan. You get all...
  16. Persistence is paying off...

bfrei, I PM'ed you. Not sure if you can receive those or not. Rafael, are you Progressive Care (Cardiac/medsurg) or Cardiac ICU? If you're cardiac icu you won't just be a general 2900 (Nurse) but will be specialized. I was given ER classificatio...
  17. Persistence is paying off...

That's what I forgot to say, my recruiter told me they're waiting on the final funding numbers for FY12. Once congress comes up with a decision (biting my tongue) our orders will be sent out. She said, under normal circumstances it would've taken a...
  18. Persistence is paying off...

Got some news today. I'm going to February 5th ODS and going to San Diego 10 Days after :] I'm keeping my specialty too. Emergency RN woot.
  19. Oh, I'm Navy active duty ER nurse. I have yet to sign my comdocs; I'm in the middle of negotiating my orders.
  20. I'm Navy side. But this sounds like being 'scrolled' wherein congress and secdef say you're qualified to serve as a commissioned officer. Mine took about 10 weeks.
  21. Persistence is paying off...

Thanks Bfrei, I agree with you on the beauty of NHB. I was there when I was an HM3, my wife would LOVE it if we get stationed there, but I'm like you. I need a change of scenery :] But in the end...Happy wife, Happy life. Did you swear in yet?
  22. Persistence is paying off...

It sounds like they're chipping away on getting those orders out. Congrats bfrei! My brother used to work at Bethesda, he said it was a really cool place except for when they have to lock the base down when the President comes through. Was Bethesd...
  23. Persistence is paying off...

ERMags, hang in there, if Traumajunkie got into the January class, that means there are more slots to be filled the rest of the year. I saw the the navy medicine manpower site the list of classes throughout the year. I'm thinking you won't need ano...
  24. Persistence is paying off...

Traumajunkie! I'm so happy for you and your family, glad everything worked out :] Make sure to go to the ODS website and start memorizing!
  25. Tattoos - after you're already in the NCP

I agree with Lunah. Go with the service standard. I have half sleeves, for navy standard it's okay. If you're really itching to get one, just make sure it's not visible with your uniform on I guess.
