This is mainly for those who have been through ODS. How detailed is the Medical exam at ODS, is it like MEPS or just a standard Utox/Alcohol test? Thanks for everyone's time. Oh please don't post negative answers or assume anything. Just a nice, informative post would be appreciated. /r

I'd shave it. If you positively have to have a mustache, feel them out and if you feel it's safe grow it back. I know you want to maintain a little piece of you, but if you're out of regs...so is your shipmate. Take from someone who went through enlisted boot camp :]

Depends. I put a timeline up regarding my experience. From your Prorec to final select it could be 2 weeks to 1 month. From your finsel to ODS it could be another month or so. You have to understand that it's the holidays and vacations and extended leave happens around this time. Also, the LCDR in charge of new accessions is busy, so even if you have your finsel, he may not get to you til next year. Best case scenario is you go with us to ODS on February, worst case March or April :]

Signed my COMDOCS on Wednesday 10/7/11 and received my official 12 x 16 letter from the Secretary of the Navy on Thursday 10/8/11, need one more physical prior to ODS. High Fiber diet and P90x for the next couple months for me!

Not very long, MEPS is like a factory with conveyor belts. The biggest hold up is filling out the prescreening form.

I know he's chipping away at the final selects. When I left him a message/email, I politely asked where I was in his queue, so that I can focus on a day rather than a random call. He called me a couple days later and we hammered out my duty station. PM me if you guys have any questions :]

It's more what your style is. If fast paced to you seems "unsafe" than it might not be a good fit. For me personally I became an ER nurse because I want to be where the action is and maintain my military bearing when crap hits the fan. You get all the experience in the ER, you get ICU patients, trauma patients, med/surg, drug addicts, walk-in clinic type stuff. So as far as experience, not sure who you spoke with, but you get it all, most times YOU will get an older nurse telling you need med/surg as a foundation before you go down to the ER. Not true in today's case. Also, think about this, you have a doctor 24/7 to talk shop with :]

bfrei, I PM'ed you. Not sure if you can receive those or not. Rafael, are you Progressive Care (Cardiac/medsurg) or Cardiac ICU? If you're cardiac icu you won't just be a general 2900 (Nurse) but will be specialized. I was given ER classification 1945. Time frames are a funny thing when it comes to the military, altogether my kit took 2 years to complete. It takes about 3 - 6 weeks from the time you submit your kit to finding out the results. Sometimes longer, so as I'm sure you've heard, be patient. It's out of your hands at this point. As far as billets being filled. For us who were accepted recently, I asked the community detailer how many positions were filled and he told me 50. In your case I'm not sure how many they're looking for, it might depend on the budget congress gives us for FY 12. I'm sure you've read or heard that Leon Panetta wants no budget cuts to the military, but really it's not up to him. Basically, my opinion is you'll find something out in the next week or so. Just in case they say something less than desirable. Just know that they told me "NO" twice and I stuck it out for two years.

That's what I forgot to say, my recruiter told me they're waiting on the final funding numbers for FY12. Once congress comes up with a decision (biting my tongue) our orders will be sent out. She said, under normal circumstances it would've taken a week. But now maybe 2 weeks to 1 month.

Got some news today. I'm going to February 5th ODS and going to San Diego 10 Days after :] I'm keeping my specialty too. Emergency RN woot.

Oh, I'm Navy active duty ER nurse. I have yet to sign my comdocs; I'm in the middle of negotiating my orders.

I'm Navy side. But this sounds like being 'scrolled' wherein congress and secdef say you're qualified to serve as a commissioned officer. Mine took about 10 weeks.

It sounds like they're chipping away on getting those orders out. Congrats bfrei! My brother used to work at Bethesda, he said it was a really cool place except for when they have to lock the base down when the President comes through. Was Bethesda your first choice?

ERMags, hang in there, if Traumajunkie got into the January class, that means there are more slots to be filled the rest of the year. I saw the the navy medicine manpower site the list of classes throughout the year. I'm thinking you won't need another recruiter, because you'll get in! I don't think there's a way to rate your recruiter, for me I just respectfully asked for another. I actually just went to his boss and she gave me a new one. Another thing, if your processor is awesome than that's good. He/She makes sure you kit is sealed tight and ready for delivery. Good luck. One last thing, Traumajunkie, tell us when you get sworn in, I'm curious if you get your CAC card and get your dependents their ID cards as well.

I agree with Lunah. Go with the service standard. I have half sleeves, for navy standard it's okay. If you're really itching to get one, just make sure it's not visible with your uniform on I guess.
