If you bore easily or like fast paced settings then no private duty home care probably isn't for you.

Will it always be the crazy?
Second day on floor wasn't as bad. I'm not sure that this will be a place that I can work at. I wanted experience and to learn the think critically. I have seen things here that has totally shocked me and made me think "that is not the kind of nurse I wanna be". I'm new here but at the end of the shift when i say "crap, I forgot to give so and so their last neb tx" and the response i get is "don't worry about it, they havent been getting them anyway" makes me wonder if this is the place i need to be working at. This pt has a URI, the neb tx is kinda important I would think. I've had nurses tell me their idea of shortcuts, but in my opinion, not doing a neb tx or doing a b/p before admin a b/p med isn't a shortcut. So, I guess I understand now why no one seemed upset about the med error.

Moments that make you giggle....
Alzheimer's lockdown unit, Man and Wife share a room, I go in to give night meds and the door is barricaded with the bedside table, I get it moved and go in, after asking the pt why they had the door shut off, he climbs out of the bed wearing nothing but a white tshirt, his whity tighties, and white socks and responds " Somebody came in here last night and shot me up, I was trying to keep them out. They come in everynight and shoot me up" Upon hearing this I asked him where he got shot at (thinking maybe he was in pain somewhere). He proceeded to pull his whity tighties to the side and show me all his private areas all the while pointing and saying "well it's right there can you not see it?" My response: "Well alrighty then" I mean really what do you say to that?? LOL

LTC Nurses... please answer
As a LPN who just came off orientation in a LTC facility I whole heartedly agree. It is a way to get to know the pt's and their routines. I volunteered to do CNA work at CNA pay just so I could get to know the residents. I was a cna for 3 years before lpn school and I am not above cna work. The facility wouldn't agree to let me work as a cna. But I really wished I could've it may have saved the med error that I made today D/T the having same name an me not knowing the patient.

Will it always be the crazy?
I've been graduated from LPN school for one year, Been working private duty with one peds patient since I got my license. I'm not gonna even say I'm a new nurse because after today I sure don't feel like a nurse at all.....This was my 3rd day alone off orientation. 1st day on this floor alone, with only 1 day orientation on this floor. 26 pt's, and this is no joke, each one of them but maybe 2 have at least 10 meds each. most have more, seriously. 16 b/p checks during first med pass. Only have 3 accu-checks with insulin. and around 10 neb tx. I don't know these residents. So needless to say meds were administered late, insulin given late, neb tx given late. had 4 pt left, rooms opposite each other, same first name, both in A bed. and what do i do? give wrong meds to wrong pt. I lost it. On the verge of a total nervous breakdown. Supervisor came, checked meds, called Dr, seriously tried everything she could to calm me down, had another nurse that is used to working that floor come help me get caught up. They both were so calm, told me to calm down, and take a break. my first two days was no where near as crazy as this hall is. I didnt get wrote up, taken to the office, nothing. according to them, med errors happen and its not the first time this has happend with these two patients.. thats where i got confused. if its happend D/T names and close rooms and same bed location, why has it not been changed?? Guess i just need to vent.. Sorry its so long..

Can CNA's also work as PCT's?
CNA is certified nurse aid. Tech is certified nurse tech. It's the same thing just most places use the phrase "tech" because it sounds more professional. PCT (patient care technician) is almost the same as cna and tech but like the above post mentioned they can do phlebotomy and catheters and the classes last much longer. And all of them deserve way more than what they make for the work they do!

Stellate Ganglion Block

If I'm reading all the posts right that if u enroll after oct 1st then only 7 credits will be transferable. But if we enroll before oct 1st then they all will transfer. Is that right?

College algebra
I took that class in like 2003. Lol. Along with a lot of computer graphics classes. I was all into computers at that time. That's when I did the algebra too. Then withdrew from college algebra twice. That crap is HARD!!! I'm going to try and enroll into excelsior next wkend. I think I'm fixing to go thru a job change and i dont think im going to have as much free time and I wanna make sure I need the courses before I take them. What other classes have u taken thru straighterline? I was thinking about A & P with them???? Maybe???

College algebra
Yes it was English 101. And the Algebra was Elem and Int Algebra. And I was going to try to get my transcripts sent to them Monday. Someone from Excelsior called me Friday and was supposed to send me and e-mail with information but I haven't received the email yet. And I thought I read on here that they wouldn't tell you what pre req's was needed untill the enrollment fee was paid??? Is that right?? Thanks for the help also, when it comes to reading all these posts my mind starts going crazy, and I don't have a lot to work with up there LOL

College algebra
Was wondering if anyone could help tell me what algebra course I need? I have already taken basic and intermediate algebra thru a community college. Will excelsior accept these as credit or no? I seen on this forum were someone said they accepted intermediate and basic. Lord knows I don't wanna take college algebra if I don't have to. Lol I also have a Comp 1 credit from the community college. I'm guessing that will fulfill that requirement??? Thanks for the help!!!

LPN Crossville, Tn
I been looking into LPN jobs in Crossville, Tn.. Currently I work for a Private duty company, the pay is great for the area, but my brain is going to mush.. Basically using no skills, an overpriced babysitter. I love my pt but I am bored to death.. I have no exp in acute care or med/surg. I worked as a CNA for private duty before LPN school, and went right back into private duty after grad I have applied 3 times at the local hospital.. no experience, no job.... There are 2 Nursing Homes in the area, and neither one has a good reputation for the workers... So.... what to do....Keep my overpaid babysitting job i reckon...........

Afraid to admit but......
My very first private duty pt had Alzheimer's. We had a blast together. Same convo's over and over. She was hilarious. I had so much patience with her that it even amazed me. I had her for 9 months before she passed away D/T a stroke. Still bothers me to this day an it's been 4 years. Geri psych was my favorite clinical rotation. I begged to go there. Hated OB Loved surgery. My BF has PTSD so I've read a lot about that. They hve my upmost respect for serving our country and then our government turning their backs in them. I say if they were in a combat zone give them 100% benefits. Cause they gave 150% to get back to their families alive. Look how many needle junkies are drawing 100% due to their own stupidity. Sorry to rant. But that's a touchy subject with me. LOL.

Afraid to admit but......
I'm a new grad LPN 7 months now. I do private duty because the company I worked for as a CNA offered me a job. I'm bored to death and my brain Is turning to mush. I've been applying to different jobs but still no luck. I'm scared that I won't be able to handle the stress either. But u have the job I'd love to have. I want to do psych nursing or work for the VA in their PTSD unit. The only way we will figure out we can do it is just to suck it up and do it. ? good luck!!!

nursing assessment
i in no way think you are doing my work for me..... I dont know who you are but i swear i could kiss you... and thanks for the link to the head to toe assessment, i had already found it and actually printed it off. Doing the assessment isn't where im having difficulty... its writing the summary.. I've been a cna for 2 years and doing cna summaries are so much different than these summaries.... I did the whole assessment on my classmate and the instructer was there and said we did the physical parts right, then she turned around and said " now write your assessments out" .. And that was the extent of her helping us. she went to her office and sit down.... Our book shows us nothing about writing one out.. I googled it and tried to find examples but all i could find was like patients in a hosp setting assessment. So i just figured I'd try here and see what i could find....Thank you so much... I have worked all weekend and tried finding these on my blackberry while at work with no luck..You my dear are a true nurse.....
