  1. I'm new to RenWeb. Would you be willing to share any resources you've found helpful?
  2. I started working as a school nurse at an international school in Thailand in January?. Before campus closed, we were checking temperatures and sanitizing hands of all staff and students each morning. We may start doing this before lunch when we reopen. We're also looking into spreading out desks & changing up lunch procedures. Administration is looking to me for ways to safely reopen but I don't know how to keep kindergartners 6 feet apart!
  3. I prefer to have a conversation directly with the cabin counselor or staff leading the activity, otherwise they may never get the note...
  4. The danger of caffeine induced arrhythmias (even leading to death) related to energy drinks has been in the media for years but my camp still sells them to teenage campers. My fear is that it will take a traumatic experience before change occurs. Does your camp sell and/or allow them? Has anyone been apart of getting them effectively regulated or banned? As a source of income for the camp, I'm sure it will not be an easy argument to convey but I want to give it my best attempt. Any tips would be much appreciated!
  5. I'm curious if most camps have a policy for how long to keep medical records. I have heard 7 years but don't know why. Also, does it vary based on what kind of record? We chart meds & assessments electronically but a few papers (like health screenings & documentation about a camper going off camp grounds) are still around. Does anyone scan documents into a computer? Do you keep the original or shred it? 7 years of paperwork sure takes up a lot of real estate, is hard to keep protected from the elements and I can't imagine finding a single paper in that haystack! Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!
  6. Yes! It's great! That way if you wanted to catch more than one break-out session at a time, you can! Or people who can't attend the conference can view or listen from home. Some charge for the podcasts, others don't.
  7. I am in a very similar situation. I did telemetry/step-down for 5 years before recently accepting a camp nursing position. I read The Basics of Camp Nursing, NOLS Wilderness Medicine, & NOLS Wilderness First Aid. I've also been encouraged to retake PALS and take the Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course at the closest children's hospital. I'm also looking into taking the Emergency Nurse Trauma Course. These classes aren't cheap but I think they will help me made quicker, more confident decisions the first time I see a critical peds trauma patient. Some cheaper alternatives I've found are YouTube videos (used with discretion of course), CompassPoint (the Association of Camp Nurses journal), and a few podcasts (I really like EM:RAP (Emergency Medicine Reviews and Perspectives, it's both informative and entertaining!). Good luck! We're in this together! :)
  8. Is there any way to listen to recordings from the conference?
  9. I understand your frustration. I would try educating them early on in the shift. Tell them "I"m going to weigh you early in the morning for accuracy. It will just take a minute..." Do you weigh ALL of your patients daily or just CHF, renal etc..?
  10. I'm trying to figure out a similar situation. I just graduated and will be starting to work 12 hr nights in a few weeks. I would love to adopt an adult dog (Newfoundland, retriever, lab, mix..). I live with an elderly lady (who isn't able to walk dogs) but we do have a pretty good size yard. Is is better to keep 2 dogs or a dog and a cat so they can play when working 12s? I would prefer to walk my dog(s) just before I leave for work and when I return in the morning rather than hire a walker. That's a pretty typical schedule even for 8-5ers right? Also, you can't use crates when working 12s right? I'm getting a lot of criticism from the dog community instead of suggestions on how I can make this work. Thanks in advance!
