  1. I took a General, Organic and Biochemistry 4 credit course with lab at Minnesota Southeast State Technical College. It was around $850. It was 16 weeks long and was not self paced. Weekly quizzes were online and the midterm and final were proctored at my local library. It was a good class for me because my previous chem class was 10 years ago, plus I needed a lab credit. It wasn't too bad, considering the subject. I got a B, and was happy with that.
  2. First, I have to say some of my best massages were from men. I would think that men probably would get more business working for a spa or gym vs. working independently. The male massage therapists I have seen worked in a fitness center that was also associated with a physical therapy place. I think it would be hardest in the beginning, but once you built up a clientele, word of mouth would hopefully make your business really grow. Good luck! Entrepreneur RN
  3. I too had serious doubts when I started nursing 12 years ago. I think you probably first need some time off to clear your head and make a plan for yourself. There are so many areas of nursing you can enter. A friend of mine just got a job in the public school system, she is overseeing LPN/MA's at a few different schools...no pt care. I have another friend that just left the hospital to work for an insurance company. You may find you don't really hate nursing, just maybe medsurg bedside nursing. Good luck with everything! Entrepreneur RN
  4. I would say yes to using RN after your name on your business cards. You earned it and it gives you credibility. I use it on mine. Entrepreneur RN
  5. I work with an RN who works 1 day a week at the hospital and teaches 22 different fitness classes at different gyms throughout the week! What about opening a weight loss center that incorporates teaching a healthy diet, with a focus on fitness with different fitness classes? This seems to be very popular right now and being a nurse gives you credibility. Good luck! Entrepreneur RN
  6. I do occasional agency work for a local hospital and have found that most nurses I work with are really friendly when you are really friendly. I really go out of my way to say hello and start up a conversation with my coworkers. When most people see you are kind and a hardworker they warm up quickly. Although, I have worked with nurses and CNA's who could care less about agency nurses and ignore you. I just always try to stay positive.
  7. I thought I wanted to do Botox and Restylane and seriously researched the business in Florida and was very disappointed. It seems the MD's don't want nurses invading their territory. Even MD's that arent's interested in doing the procedures themselves do not want to cover a nurse under their license and malpractice insurance. I think the best bet is to look into other anti-aging products/therapies that don't require MD supervision. Entrepeneur RN
  8. I was wondering what everyone's plan B was if they didn't get accepted to or just couldn't do CRNA school. I don't know if I am going to be able to do CRNA school with my current family committments. I am looking for career ideas that would give you qualities like autonomy, respect, good income, job security, challenging. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  9. I am also interested in this, but, concerned about malpractice insurance covering me. In the state of Florida, you have to be under the medical direction of an MD on site. I guess a nurse could fall under the MD's license, but if anything went wrong, would the MD really cover you?
  10. Yes, one of the CRNA's I work with told me that University of Miami was going to open a CRNA or AA program in the next few years.
  11. Does anyone work as a Cosmetic ARNP or Aesthetic ARNP doing things like Botox, Collagen, microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, ect.? How did you get into this line of nursing? Did you have any special training beforehand? How is the job market and salary? Thanks alot!
  12. Myoung, I think you have valid concerns. You want to be sure the field you get into has job security. I too have been considering ARNP and have the same concerns as you.
  13. Laughinggas, I really appreciate what you said about CRNA school. You are an inspiration to be able to juggle 3 small kids, work and CRNA school. Does your husband work? Who helps you with the kids? How many hours a week do you spend with school/clinicals/study? Thanks so much!
  14. How did the interviews go? What questions were you asked? Thanks!
  15. Thanks SproutRN for responding. I am struggling with deciding to go to school due to the family time lost with CRNA school. It is something I want so bad; but, I am worried I will miss out on too much with my family. My 2 boys will be 4 and 8 when I hopefully get it. What is your time committment with school? Is it 60-80 hours a week really. Is 80 hours a week frequent? Thanks!
  16. I have heard a rumor that in the future a PhD will be required to become a CRNA. There has also been talk about making a BSN a requirement for RN, for several years, but I don't think it will ever happen. What has everyone heard about this? Feelings about this?
  17. Movingsouth, I have 2 young children and would love to keep hearing from you once you start school. You are an inspiration to me, going to school with 3 children. Please keep us updated on how you manage school and family. I hope to be in your shoes in a few years. Good luck!:)
  18. I currently work in the PACU and see many pts with bilateral tubals performed under spinal anesthesia. They seem to do fine afterwards.
  19. Please keep us posted how your interview went. I am hoping to be interviewing for Barry in 1 year. Thanks!
  20. What is the average cost of CRNA malpractice?
  21. I am thinking about starting a business teaching CPR/First Aid to the community. Any ideas on marketing? Could this be a good money-making business? Any advice?
  22. Is there much of a difference between ARNP and CNS salary?
  23. To all the current SRNA and CRNAs, what is the average drop out rate for your program. I plan on attending Barry university in Miami in the next few years and have heard there is a 10% drop out rate. Is this high, average? What are the common reasons for drop out? Too stressful or hard? Thanks!
  24. Athlein1, so you are saying 3-4 hours a day is not enough? Approximately how many hours a week do you all study?
  25. So you are saying an average day is around 13 hours (0600-1900)? This is before studying and careplans? Is this a realistic average? The program I am applying to states 40 hours the last 2 semesters.
