Isolation Gowns
My facility uses the blue plastic and they are awful to work at length...but when I've used the yellow in the past in another facility I was a bit worried that I might actually get blood or secretions on my body b/c the gown seemed "too comfy" b/c I initially was used to the blue..... Back to the blue....I tend to no longer wear lots of layers beneath scrubs b/c of those...used to wear a tshirt and jacket with scrub set but now I stay too hot....but I do feel protected...to a certain extent.

Cell phones and equipment
My concern about cell phones in the hospital relates to privacy. So many cells have cameras and videos and are potential threats to pts privacy.....for example..... a visitor with a cell could take a pic or video of a pt and post it on the internet....horrors not only re: HIPPA and that entire avenue for the hospital but simply horrible for the pt! ANyone else ever worry about such?

Nurse Salary vs. Teacher Salary?
If I could afford it I would become a teacher and work as a Public School teacher. I find the benefits where I reside superior to that of nursing. When I graduated with BSN I owed a ton of money and I started out making exactly what a new teacher in same county started out at per school board salary list....I was shocked. Yet I worked almost every weekend and felt tired all of the time. I also worked every holiday b/c one person made schedule and it was simply set in stone. I love caring for patients but I also adore children and would be much happier in the teaching profession but can not afford to return to school at this time. Good luck to those trying to decide....difficult decision.

Do Nurses Need Chemistry Education?
I think nursing should require additional chemistry. A true understanding of chemistry can save a pts life.... all too often I've heard nurses say two drugs are compatible b/c there was no precip in line. Incompat. can occur without precip. Chemistry is so relevant on so many levels regarding the care of a pt.... The more chem a nurse has makes pt care actually easier regarding understanding the plan of care, rationale, and pathophysiology and actually easier to explain things in simple terms to pts and family members.
