  1. Hi, Anatomy is alot of memorization(Sp?) but physiology you need to understand the material, you can not memorize it. Alot of physiology exams are essay questions mixed with multiple choice. Anat. you need to know where everything is but phy. you need to know how it works and what can go wrong and how things go wrong and the function if different systems of the body.
  2. Hi, Thanks WIll. When I went to orientation in June they told us that they had over 500 applicants. They only take 99 a semester as you already know. They have over 400 on waitlist. Which starts over every semester. I think it is safe to say the more you have done the better off you will be when you apply. I am just finishing up physiology and there are some 2nd semester(this fall will be) nursing students in my class. But from what I hear from the instructors that due to the amount of applicants you should have all prereq. done to have a chance. Quality points is big from what I hear too. The head of the nursing dept. told us at orientation that we should never believe all the rumors that we hear also so keep that in mind. I have a large amount of quality points due to another degree from the college so I am not sure if they look at nonnursing quality points or just nursing prereq. Study hard and get at least a B in your classes and you should be able to get in.

  8. Hi, I am from Rochester ,NY where do you go to school?
  9. Oh yeah don't you just love those RBI commercials(sp?) They really make a joke out of that school.
  10. Hi, My sister in laws mother works at St. John's has been there for awhile I will ask her how much lpns start. But I know that she loves it there and she is very fond of her residents. That might be worth the pay to know that you will be happy there. Also I know she has been working alot of OT, so that could help you to. I will send you a private message after I talk to her. QUOTE=kiyasmom]I used to work at a nursing home in Food Services (supervising staff cafeteria), and I went back to visit and get my face out there again. My aunt is an LPN there, and I went upstairs to say hello to her and I overheard two ladies on the elevator talking about the "sucky" paychecks they just received and thank God for the upcoming holiday pay. I told one lady I was starting my LPN program in a matter of weeks and she gave me a sympathetic look and said "You may as well get a management position at McDonald's or spend the next year at RBI getting your medical assistant certification. You'll make more." Word for word. (BTW, RBI [Rochester Business Institute] is a business college that accepts EVERYONE and certifies ANYONE). I asked the lady if she were serious and the other lady said "Unless you get in here or at St. John's Home you will be making about $12 an hour with minimal diffs, and it's not much more here to be honest." I am mortified. I thought for sure we made closer to $17. That additional $5 an hour could really help this family get from under the "poverty line". Any insight? Could this be true?
  11. My daughters pcp is a peds dr. And she told me that the other blood work she had done was not consistent with leukemia.
  12. My daughters sed rate was around 60 the first time they took it and then around 40 the second time. The drs told me it was still considered low. The dr said that when they did the ana the blood test came back postive and then they did another test on the same blood sample and it came back negative. But they said that even the positive result was so borderline and that was why they did this other test. She has seen a peds rheumatologist and he is the one that said her pains are coming from being extremly double jointed. My daughter had a fever the last two days,( also complaining her legs hurt) first they were low grade and then this afternoon it got up to 104.2. We took her to an afterhours office and they did as much as they could do. And then we ended up taking her to the ed after that visit. We should have went straight to ed. They did some blood work, they are checking her sed rate and a few other things and I should hear back from her primary care dr after the holiday. The dr in the ed thought it was a virus because she started to have some loose bms. Her fever is down now and I hope it stays down so she can get some rest. I don't know what to do. WHat other test are there that I should ask her dr for? I got the impression tonight from the ed doctor that it sounded like she had some arthritis and that is why she spikes these fevers every so often.
  13. Hello, My daughter is 5 and had been complaining of back aches at least once a week for about 10 months.( daughter still slept in my bed so dr. thought this may have been the cause) We saw her doctor when they began, she had us keep tract of them. Back aches often were accompanied with stomach aches also. Like I said this continued on and she began to have leg pains more often then the back aches (once in awhile now she will complain of a backache) . She also would spike 102 -103 fevers at night and would feel fine by morning. Pcp has done blood work and found that her sed rate was up and ana had false postive. Drs say that the rates are not high just alittle higher than normal, and that her sed rate may just normally be higher. Will check sed again when she spikes another fever to compare sick rate to healthy rate. Pcp also sent her to a ortho doc and he did xrays and examined her on 2 occasions and found nothing. Ortho dr also sent her for a bone scan and found nothing. next Pcp sent her to a rhemetologist (sp?). He examined her and said the reason for her pain is because she is very double jointed and she is over extending her tendons. She is on naproxin 2x a day. All said we will have her blood done when she is sick , but she just keeps having these joint pains and stomach aches and I am worried that it is more than just being double jointed. Have any of you ever seen this or anything similar?
  14. Yes, LOVE THEM.
  15. I think that says it all and is really looking at the big picture. "You can do anything for sixteen weeks" I like that and I will post that in permanent marker on my nursing notebooks. Thanks
  16. Hello, This is my first post. I was wondering how did you get involved with the med. trans.? What type of training do you have? It sounds like a good job to do while in school. Thanks for any info.
