  1. i would give i/m benefit of the doubt and redraw. ive seen an i/m drop because he was given regular instead of lantus (not by me). if he still refuses i would fill out and have im sign refusal form. if i was lvn i would notify rn or dr of refusal.
  2. first apply oxygen!!! what is HR and 02 sat? i agree with exploring OD
  3. hi, from what ive heard my time frame is really fast and the state usxually doesnt move that fast. but i took the assessment test in nov and returned the request paperwork in nov..was asked to interview 12/1 and was hired 12/17. ive beed there a month and really like it so far. my coworkers are the best!!!
  4. worked with a nurse today in corrections whom applied and was granted snaffle loan forgiveness, she said hardly anyone applied in 2010
  5. one suggestion is to fly into reno and rent a car. high desert is about 1.5 hours from reno on 395. the forecast looks like good weather for fri.
  6. hi wendy, i am working at high desert and just interviewed there in dec. new hire. bring 3 references into with you names and phone numbers. they like acls. you will interview with 3 people. the don(head of nursing) and 2 supervisors. they are all really. really nice. read the corrections interview thread!!!! good luck!!! i relocated from marin 300 miles away but i like it here.
  7. hi, i never interviewed with vacaville. i interviewed with cdcr. high desert but will answer any questions i can except i dont know how to message either
  8. where are you interviewing?
  9. hi, i am a new grad 05/10. i believe i got an 85 the only experience i had outside of clinicals was a volunteer camp nurse this summer. .one of the first questions they asked is do you have acls. so if you get to the interview stage get acls before interview. i would concentrate on rural prisons such as high desert ( where i got hired) jamastown ect... the bayarea( san quentin, salinas) is only hiring out of the first tier, so hr told me. i dont know what your chances are but without trying your chances are zero. i also got two calls from rural hospitals this week asking for interview but i was already committed to HDSP. think about places where not alot of people want to relocate too. good luck! 2 girls in my orientation are also new grads or old-new grads from 08!!!
  10. OMG congratulations!!!!!
  11. Hi, i havent heard and check junk mail everyday too
  12. I have to move too, although i loved my prior home. i really like it here also. its an adventure. that is why it took a while to respond. i interviewed 12/1.they contacted my references the next day and pre-employment offer on 12/17. ask at the interview what the next course of action is. Good Luck!!!!!
  13. Thank you! I was interviewed by three people, 2 nursing supervisors and unit manager. I met about 7 others interviewing for the position since they were running behind. I believe they held interviews over two days. Where did you get your request to interview. I cant stress it enough, read the interview thread started by Lorry. also go to her website and click on interview techniques. It is right on the money.
  14. sorry, dont feel bad. they didnt even look at your app. they are getting so many applications they are eliminating people on criteria such as bsn ect... i havent heard yet but i am sure i wont be one of the 8 out of 1200 chosen even with bsn, acls/pals, cum laude, native san franciscan and contacts within sfva. i was told i wasnt qualified for a new grad program on reno. when i called to find out why, i was told they were only taking internal apps.
  15. i am reluctact to give exact questions because i signed a release stating i wouldnt. but i will tell you how i prepared. i think it will be helpful because i got the job as a new bsn grad with no medical, emt, military or corrections experience and all the others i met waiting to interview had psych or medical experience. they asked if i had acls. i do. they want to know if you are flexible, willing to work mandatory ot and willing to follow instructions. for medical questions i studied all the diseases one would expect to find in a prison and triage/ trauma response. my best advice is study the interview thread!!!! it totally prepared me for the interview. i think they also liked i was familiar and wanted to move to that area.
  16. correct, no more furlough days. it ended in november. thanks for asking about me. i start 1/18. i move from the bay area tomorrow. ill be sure to let you know. good luck. lots of overtime and experience to be had! when you go to interview definitely read the correction interview thread. it was right on target with my interview
  17. its ok to call the hr rep in a couple of weeks and ask about the process. i happened to call to check on my application the day they were going to call for interviews.
  18. my time-line was 10/15/10 took online exam. 2-3 weeks later i received inquiries with deadline of11/15/10. I was asked to interview for high desert on 12/1/10 and references were contacted two days later. Hired 12/16/10. YEAAY!!!! some of the places i returned inquires for never contacted me for interview. check rank/sequence #. i believe hr is only allowed to typically invite those w/ 3 or above to interview and san quentin informed me they are only interviewing from rank#1. good luck!!!!
  19. i havent heard anything yet.
  20. Hi, I jsut got hired at High Desert. I've also heard it is safer than a lower level security because of the amount of CO's. Two nurses were murdered here in CA last month. One in Napa State and one in Contra Costa. I know the napa state is really low level the pt. are just walking around in and outside with no security. I would take it. No more furlough days and as much ot as you can handle. The beginning of orientation is all about safety, inmate/tattoo and protocol on how to handle inmates. I would take it too!!!!
  21. sorry web address fro federal forgiveness Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program
  22. hi, well although the increase isnt reflected the original $20,000. loan forgiveness is still in effect California Student Aid Commission - State Nursing Assumption Program of Loans for Education for Nurses in State Facilities (SNAPLE NSF) and The Bachelor of Science Nursing Loan Repayment Program (BSNLRP) offers registered nurses with a bachelors degree in nursing education a loan repayment of up to $19,000.Health Professions Education Foundation and federal loan forgiveness
  23. California increases loan forgiveness for nurses Posted: March 29th, 2010 | By Jennifer Fink, RN, BSN | no comments California State Assemblyman Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, recently introduced a bill that allows nurses to eliminate up to $40,000 of student debt-double the previous $20,000 limit. The Assembly Higher Education Committee unanimously approved the bill. The Knight bill expands a previous loan forgiveness program that repaid up to $20,000 of a nurse's student loans in exchange for four years of nursing service at a state prison or nursing home with a Registered Nurse vacancy rate greater than 10%. Other states offer similar programs. Florida offers a Nursing Student Loan Forgiveness Program that will repay up to $4000 of nursing debt a year in exchange for nursing service. Minnesota pays up to $3750 per year, up to a maximum of $15,000 over four years. The Federal government has a Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program that wipes out 60% of qualifying student loans in exchange for two years' service.
