NP Fellowship program at Emory Hospital Atlanta
It’s been good. I prescribe controlled substances but am able to do that because I’m under the critical care center. I hope that you enjoy your fellowship. Your salary is definitely higher than Critical Care ?

Elizabeth Warren says doctors, nurses don't treat black women same way as other women
It may have happened to you, but it doesn’t happen to White women at the same rate as Black women. The research shows an alarmingly high rate of poor outcomes. “African American women die in pregnancy or childbirth at a rate of three to four times the rate of white women – and this has been true for fifty years.” Maternal morbidity and mortality is an indicator of how well a country is doing economically, and it’s a political piece that should be addressed in the U.S.

All nurses aren’t “good” nurses. Nurses are still humans. There will be times personal biases affect your care. It’s important to not act omnipotent and oblivious to the fact that there are nurses that perform inequitable healthcare or don’t advocate for their patients accordingly. Please stop acting like nurses are impervious to these issues.

Elizabeth Warren says doctors, nurses don't treat black women same way as other women
As a nurse of color this discussion board is alarming with how many nurses are biased and are constantly refuting evidence based research that women of color are not treated equitably in healthcare. Calling the Senator “Pocahontas” because she identifies with Native American heritage is boldly unprofessional and many people of color would say racial. Nurses really need to get to step it up. Your discriminatory, prejudicial, and racial biases are showing. If you don’t believe what she’s saying: do research.

Nurse Practitioner Residencies
I asked the folks interviewing me about what the preceptorship would be like and was told it was a gradual move from a preceptor to being on my own. They didn’t say if that would be in week 6 or if that was in week 36 though. Do you feel as if you’re just being used as free labor by that health system in essence since you’re mostly independent ? Also did you have to sign a contract to work at the health system when you are finished with the fellowship?

Nurse Practitioner Residencies
I'm currently applying to a residency program and wondered what your thought was about your current program. How many hours do you work in direct clinical verses class time ? What’s your support like in terms of preceptors ? Are they hands on the full year or have you been alone for a good bit of it with them being available via text/ phone ?

Neuro, NP thanks for replying. I’ve learned that there are some NP fellowships/residencies that pay 60-70k around the country. As a nurse I make more than 50-55k, so it’s a little bit of a juggle for me to make less with the additional debt from school loans.

I think they are really at a need at this specific hospital and uniy. The unit had a 50% turnover last year so they are looking for nurses with a bit more experience.

Negotiating Pay
I never even thought of that. The cost of living is just so high in the new city, and I'm starting grad school. I didn't want to put myself in a crazy situation. I'll just wait to see what they offer.

Yeah, the minimum is 1 year.
