You should totally do it! As long as you are committed to school there is no reason you wont succeed. Before I started my prerequisites for nursing school I had only completed the 8th grade. Armed with only a GED and an 8th grade education I started nursing school at 40 with 4 kids at home including one who had a mental health condition requiring 3 hospitalizations during the time I was in nursing school. Was it hard? Absolutely, but I knew if I did not succeed then all of our families sacrifices would be for nothing. I ended up graduating Summa Cum Laude with an ADN in 2012. I was in the top 10% of my class with a 8th grade education. Went on to take my NCLEX and passed with 75 questions. I will graduate with honors with my BSN in about 4 weeks. It took me awhile to complete my BSN not because I couldn't but because I wanted to take a break. I have several classmates well into their MSN programs who are close to my age. I am not telling you all of this to brag only to let you know if you want it you can achieve it. It is just up to you and how hard you are willing to work to live your dream.

Texas Children's Hospital (Houston area) has a fb career page and if you scroll down you will find a posting from them that states they had over 600 applicants for a Med/Surg new grad position. For some reason there is a rumor that there are tons of jobs here so students are flooding the market. There are plenty of BSN students with great GPA's from top schools who cant get a job here. There is no shortage of nurses here. I dont know about Dallas. If I were you I would take the job you were offered at your current hospital or if jobs are plentiful where you are maybe get some experience at a NICU there for a year then apply here.

The program is 5 semesters you will go to school one summer and are off one summer. There is a point system that they use to score applicants. You can find it on the nursing website. I believe that the cutoff for our class was 11.65 out of a possible 12 points.

I am in my third semester at Cyfair. When we had our orientation the director assigned us am or pm classes we had no choice but could switch if you could find someone willing but only on that day. Most want am so it is very hard or should I say almost impossible to switch. The schedule changes from semeser to semester and some that started in the am are now in pm and the other way around. Clinicals start at 6:30 am and are until 3:30. If you are late to clinicals you will be sent home and given an 8 page care plan to do. If you miss more than one clinical you will be dropped for the semester. These are the rules for Cyfair I dont know about the other schools but I have heard our school tougher than the other campuses. On the upside our campus has had 100% pass rate on NCLEX the last few years. So if you manage to make it thru you pretty much can count on becoming a RN at the end. I guess to get to the point you are going to need flexible childcare that can watch your child from very early am to late pm. If you can have full time child care that will be the best situation because the work load is intense. Hope this helps.

You will not be able to get in with a B in Psyc or Eng because you need to have the full 4 points for the gpa. I am in my first semester at Cyfair and the cutoff score was 11.6.

Hi I am currently at Cyfair in my first semester and I just wanted to let you know although the cutoff has traditionally been very high I belive the scores will be much lower because of the new testing requirements. So if you have a 11.3 this time I think you have a good shot at getting in. Good luck to all of you.

I got my letter today. I actually haven't been on this forum and had no idea they were sending out the letters early. I was thinking they would be going out in Oct. my score was 11.9132 and I applied to cy-fair. It is weird but I don't feel excited I feel scared. Anyone else feel that way. Not how I expected to feel at all.

About me I am married SAHM with 3 girls 17, 9, and 5 and one boy 10. I am 40 yikes! It still doesn't seem real when I say that. I need to have morning classes because I live far from the school and would not be able to pick up my kids with afternoon classes. I would like to work in the NICU or in Peds. I don't want to work in L&D or geriatrics.

I agree. I talked to several people that did not have any of the co-req's done that were applying. A 11.6 score is a good score I wouldn't worry destinedtobea. I am pretty sure anyone with a 11.4 will get their letter. Also don't forget the ones that get accepted and decide not to go or the ones that applied to a BSN and Lonestar then happened to get into a BSN program there will be those spots available as well.

I just took my HESI today and my score is 11.9132 I will be applying to CyFair does anyone know how long it will take for the score to show up on the score sheet?:) Thanks

Hi everyone I am hoping to apply as well I would need to get in to Cy-Fair if I can get my schedule straight. I have not taken the HESI yet. I have a question is the reading portion of the actual test similar to the study guide or is the actual test harder? Does anyone know when the hep B shots have to be completed by? Thanks:)
