  1. Hi everyone, I have a question about necessary equipment in patient rooms. I have been working on a med/surg floor for a little over a year. As a new grad I worked in an ER and checking our rooms for proper equipment was a priority when starting our shift...suction, O2 wall set up, ambu bag, etc etc. I realize that all the things needed in an ER setting aren't practical or necessary for floor nursing. However, we don't have enough wall suction set ups for every room on our unit. Also, we frequently have to track down O2 wall set ups when it is needed, which makes me think that we also don't have adequate supply of those although I haven't done an inventory Long story short....aren't wall suction and oxygen equipment pretty basic and necessary items for every pt room on a med surg floor? When patients code or we have a rapid response, I find it entirely inappropriate to have to run around the unit hunting down wall suction and oxygen. Am I wrong or paranoid? What other equipment do yall have available in every patient room?
  2. I'm sorry to hear about your classmates. Do you mind if I ask where you went to school? I can't say that I've heard of this being an issue from any of the graduates in our December class. I didn't know many in the last May class, so I can't speak for them. I guess I wasn't aware of the shortage of jobs for new grad bsn students. I just want to make it clear that I do have back up plans. I work/go to school a couple hours east of Dallas. I do have a job waiting for me at my current hospital when I graduate. However, I would prefer to be closer to family, as I have none here. NICU is my dream job, and I am pursuing that. I am aware that it will be difficult to land this job straight out of school, and I will take what I can get. I was asking a specific question about NICUs in Houston....although I am more likely going back home to Dallas. I didn't feel that writing out my whole list of plans and back up plans was necessary to get an answer to the simple question of "which hospitals in Houston have NICUs?"
  3. Be prepared to not get any internship at all? I'm sorry, but is there a plethora of new grads not being employed or am I missing something? I just wanted to know what hospitals have NICUs. Of course I have back up plans.
  4. Thanks! Of course I won't move without a job first :) I am just trying to get a list of hospitals together to keep my eye on for new grad postings.
  5. Hi, I know there are a lot of posts here, but I'm getting overwhelmed navigating through them all and trying to sort out what is outdated information. I am graduating in May and planning to move to either Houston or Dallas. I am determined to work in a NICU. I currently extern at a hospital in the city where I am going to school, and work in the NICU there. I am not very familiar with the Houston area. I know that there is a NICU at Memorial Hermann and Texas Children's, but would like to know other options. I also am wondering where I could find contact info for nurse recruiters so I can get more information on the timeline for the GN internships. I can't seem to find it anywhere...I would have thought it would be easier to find. OR, if anyone here has any information, I would LOVE to hear it )
