I need to do a PA minus health history & vitals (tested seperately) in 45 minutes or less! Can anyone help with that? I've watched several videos and they all take over an hour!

my only comment would be to read every answer completely. a bunch in my class missed a question the other day because the answer read that we should wait 15 minutes and then retake the pulse. they missed it because the next thing to do really was retake the pulse but you only have to wait 2-3 minutes. sooo the correct "best" answer was actually the thing you do do after retaking the pulse. lol hope this helps you maybe see a possible problem.

Thanks everyone! I'll be checking out the nearby hospital about volunteering and seeng what types of other programs they have for students. Maybe just knowing a bit about what happens and what to expect will help. Good luck to everyone. I was just on another site for nurses and ran into a page about all of these new graduates who were having such a hard time finding jobs. Now I am incredibly worried. I start my nursing program in the fall and had thought that as long as I was at the top of my class or close to it a job would come easily. Now, I am reading all of these posts from new graduates who have gone like a year or more without getting anyone to hire them. Some of the excuses that they are hearing is that the jobs require experience. Is anyone else afraid of this?

Initially, I agree, it was all about the money and the job securtiy. I had been laid off from a factory job I really liked. I needed the shortest possible course of action that still would give me as good an income as I made in factory and more stability. I grew up wanting to be a teacher. Never acheived that. So I checked at the local community college and was told about nursing program. I was never really interested in nursing because I believe in holism, I really thought it would become a conflict of interest. I have decided to combine my lifelong dream of becoming a teacher with the stability of nursing. I am getting my ADN which will hopefully pay my way thru til my MSN which will allow me to teach nursing. So, while yes I began this journey for the money (afterall, how many of us would be going into nursing for 7.25 an hour) and for the security, I am sticking to it because I really want to teach nursing. I am hoping that I can introduce holism into whatever setting I end up in. It is also an up and coming modality so I hope to be able to incorporate it into my teaching as well.

I'll be in first semester in the fall and since I have all the pre-req's... I think I'll just have Fundamentals of Nursing. I really have to idea what to expect but am excited for it to begin.

Our ADN program requires 1oo on PAXRN. GPA on pre-req's is secondary. Of course, the more pre-req's you have already taken the better your chances are of getting into program. Most students turn the 2 year program into 4 years by taking all the pre-req's during the first 2 years. Although AP II and Microbiology are offered inside the program, but it is recommended that they take them ahead of the program. Since most students will take APII and Micro before the program it would be a bit harder to get into program without them. Our school does not really have a waiting list so very few are turned away. I know that will sound odd to most of you around the country. I've heard of the incredibly long waitng lists for nursing progams. I believe that the lowest PAXRN score last semester was 101. I received a 135 on PAXRN, and maintain a 2.91 overall on pre-req's. A slightly lower gpa is expected of those of us who take AP I & II at our school because of the instructor (she only gives 1 A and 1 B; EVER!!!) so a C in her class is expected. I had a 4.0 gpa before that class. On the other hand, I am told that most other nursing schools require an overall average score of 75%. Our school requires an 80% average on all nursing classes. No acceptions are made for any reason. I got accepted and will begin fall 2010.

I agree. In both AP1 &2, we took the body system by system. My advice would be parctice, practice, then practice some more. In our class, with our instructor, that is what was required. I practically lived in the lab and when I wasn't able to be in the lab I was practicing at home. Don't let this diacourage you though. I don't have much of a memory so I have to work harder than most to get it down. Good luck! The things you learn will help you when get into program.
