First Nursing job, and I drowned!
You do not want to work in a place like the one you describe and I feel very bad for the patients as well. As a new nurse you need to find a place to work that allows for an adequate amount of orientation. Your confidence has been injured here and you need confidence to be a nurse. We all hear stories from experienced nurses how they were "thrown to the wolves" and how they survived. This leads to the old adage how "nurses eat their young". We should not continue this attitude as a profession. Good luck with your future.

can you go from ADN to MSN?
With Nursing the initial investment of time to obtain your AS/ASN will be the worst part of your journey. Once you have your AS/ASN and then have obtained an RN license you can find accelerated degree programs from several accredited schools. So it will not take an additional 4 years. When you are looking at programs online and they refer to RN to MSN option they are referring to people who hold a BS in an unrelated field of study. One final comment is to be careful of trying to rush your education because I know quite a few advanced practice nurses who are dumber than a box of rocks.

Tired of nurses threatening to quit!!!
Try and help her find a position somewhere else for one thing. Or go to your manager or supervisor as a group to let them know how serious this issue is to all the staff. I have worked with many people over the years that are so negative that you dread working with them well in advance. It is very difficult to do but you must do all that you can to maintain a positive attitude. You can also try forming a "morale committee" with your fellow co-workers. We have done this on my unit and it has helped quite a bit. The morale committee meets once a month and we do fund raiser stuff so we can buy small gifts for the staff (send flowers for funerals, birthdays and other special occasions). Once a year we all bring in valentines cards to exchange and it is a big hit. We also do Christmas in July, and Christmas in December gift exchange ($10 limit). Anything to show support of one another.

Help Anxiety is killing me
Firstly if you don't think you are capable of being safe with your care then you need to speak with your supervisor/manager immediately. Secondly anxiety can be treated with drugs and or counseling. See if your employer offers counseling services where I work we are offered so many visits for free each year. Thirdly nursing can be a very stressful profession so do not feel weird or foolish about talking to someone. There have been many that have been in your situation and have gotten help.

Paramedic to RN
Try Indiana Wesleyan online. There are other good programs out there. When choosing a school look for one that has a great traditional reputation then see if they offer online delivery. With your situation I would talk to a college advisor in your area and see if they have any suggestions. You will find that as a nurse you will always be fighting for respect within this profession, so don't start out with a poor choice for a school.

Holiday pay at a Clarian Hospital?
I work at a Hospital in Muncie IN. What do any of you think of an employer not giving you time-and-a-half holiday pay. Instead a "holiday premium" that is a tenth of your hourly wage extra for each holiday hour worked. The reason being given is its not fair for the higher paid staff (Nurses) to make so much when the other hourly employee (techs, house keepers, kitchen staff...) do not. I am feeling under-appreciated here. Please let me know if I am wrong or right to feel this way.

what is it like to work at Clarian hospitals...
I work at Ball Hospital in Muncie. We just recently joined the Clarian family. I think so far things are not improving as was promised. The new thing they are doing to us is we are no longer going to get 1.5 time for holidays instead we we get a premium that is much less pay. We are being told that the is due to it not being fair for us to make so much on holidays while other staff (house keepers, kitchen employees, techs, ...) do not. I thinks its ridiculous. I feel that I am not valued by my employer. I have been told that after they complete this change here it we be going out system wide. I live in Muncie and have lived here my whole life and I don't want to drive long periods everyday so I stay.
