  1. It's about as hard as you make it out to be. My advice is to not waste any time. Especially the second semester. Manage your time wisely and you should do fine. The instructors are pretty strict, but nothing that you can't adjust to. If you want it bad enough, you are going to have to work for it. Its not a cake walk at all, but its not the end all to be all in Nursing Programs
  2. yes the gray is light gray. If any of you live in the Katy area, The Finish Line in Katy Mills mall had a nice selection of all white shoes for men and women.
  3. The price for books is just for this semester. Thie great part is that some of the books we will use for the duration of the program. Oso the cost will come Down the further we go along in the program. Also remember that tax free weekend is in a couple of weeks (Aug 20-23) and you can get your uniforms and shoes tax free.
  4. Check your email for your registration. I got mine and with out of district fees my tuition was 2,088. That's not including books. The cheapest books I have found are on amazon.com for $379.65. I will try to make a wish list to share online. And if you are looking for all white shoes Finishline.com has a section dedicated just for all white shoes and they have a sale offering $20 off if you spend $100. Also amazon has the cherokee gray scrubs for $18- $25 a SET! A lot cheaper than the place they are pushing. I will try to keep posting info as I get it. Ohhh almost forgot, from all the nurses I have talked to here at work, they all say buy a cheap stethoscope until you graduate, then, pop for a littman. I got my stethoscope from amazon as well for 17 bucks with free shipping. If you use your school email address you qualify for free 2 day shipping which is a darn good deal. The total for my scrubs (2 pair) and stethoscope was $68.17. Not bad at all. See you all on family night on the 26th of August!
  5. Not yet. I was gonna wait until after orientation to get one. All I hear is Littman, Littman, Littman. So we shall see. I am going to talk to a couple of ICU and ER nurses here at work tonight and see what they say.
  6. After reading through her responses, I believe we have a case of over inflated ego met with a swift dose of reality. Just look at her handle, NewsuperNurse. Really, Seriously? Your ego OP is what is not allowing you to see the obvious. You began to believe your own press and thought you were more wonderful than you really are. Word of advise... people cannot sustain you where they place you. LVN or not, she is a NURSE just like you. Not your subordinate or lesser educated peon. Just by your writings alone I can tell your maturity level is low and that your leadership quotient is ZERO. We all can learn the most from those battle tested and seasoned by fire. No one knows it all. Medicine is DYNAMIC not STATIC, you will never know it all.... EVER. Her 10yrs trump your degree 10 fold. In 20 years you still wont measure up to the constant experience she will still have on you. Its people like you who want to be diamonds but yet cannot stand the pressure required to press you into shape. Leadership is about service, not being served. All the BEST leaders serve those who they lead, and all GREAT leaders know that in order to grow you have to relinquish power to others to grow them as a leader as well, which in turn makes you a better leader. Your title is just that a title. It's hollow and meaningless because you are too wrapped up in the letters and not the experience. Your degree may be impressive but we as a people are not impressed. Your arrogance will be your demise. And if you continue to think in terms of Bosses and Workers instead of delivering OPTIMAL patient care, may I suggest that you LEAVE NURSING NOW. The field does not need you, TRUST ME. Your ridiculous rants and petulant musings are laughable. No one cares about your patient load....stop deflecting your deficiencies on others. To make it plain... YOU SUCK, stop looking for a scapegoat. Here are 2 books that changed my life.. and if you PM me I will GIVE THEM TO YOU FOR FREE. Because you seriously need to read them: The 7 Habits of Highly effective People by Stephen Covey The 21 IRREFUTABLE Laws of Leadership by John C Maxwell I wish you well.... but you need to check yourself. Seriously!
  7. Sorry for the rant, but stuff like that burns me up. Just do what you have to do. Everyone wants to be leaders at work but never want to work to lead.
  8. I understand your position. I really do. But the application period for our school has been about 8 months if I am not mistaken, and it is written and posted online EVERYWHERE that this is requirement for acceptance. I just find laziness extremely contemptible. There was ample time to get all of the stuff on this list of requirements done and the one thing that you just couldn't have done on your own (fingerprints) takes a mere 15 minutes, if that. I just dislike folks who act brand new and dumb to the situation. How could you NOT know what was required of you before even attempting to enter the program, then try to plea for help when you haven't held up to your simple requirement that they gave you 8 months to get done. HEP B takes only 6 months to finish the series. Besides its for your protection not just some random crap to make it harder to get into school. If it were me I would give her slot to someone who has their stuff together, there is just no excuse. NONE. They won't let you near ANY patients without HEP B for your protection.. so how will she/he do clinicals? You have folks like jagtag as an alternate who did what she/he had to do and people like her/him occupiing a slot and taking up valuable space. It was only 25 slots for God knows how many applicants.... take this just a tad more seriously and not like its just a casual thing. Like I said before, I hate to be a downer, but do not act shocked or even angry when they send her/him and others like her/him packing. They had plenty of time. No one owes you any favors. I got my letter on the 12th and you best believe monday the 14th they had my fingerprints and everything BEFORE noon. This is way to valuable of a gift just to nonchalantly throw away on being ill prepared.
  9. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE! Leaders are not born they are made and trained. Everyone is not leadership material. She has demonstrated this clearly. May I suggest that you read EVERYTHING by John C Maxwell concerning leadership. Start with "The 21 irrefutable laws of leadership" that book will open your eyes.
  10. I think you need to have the vaccines done by the 28th. If you need HEP B then you wont have enough time to get it done. If you dont know what your serum levels are, then you need to get a titer done to determine what anitbodies you do have. Well reading my letter it says that you have to have COMPLETED the Hep B series by the 28th so you are WAAAY out of time for it. Not trying to be a downer, but I think you need to call the school to see what you can do about it.
  11. Just got my acceptance letter to start Aug 2010, ends June 2011. Good luck to you all
  12. I hope you made your appt. after 10am. because trust me the guy they have looks about as professional as a your local thug. SO tread lightly.
  13. I got in with a 7.46, but I have no idea if I was in the bottom half or top half. My GPA was a 4.0 so I don't know if that was the thing that pushed me over. I will try to find out during orientation on the 14th of July
  14. Whatever you do DO NOT go to the L1 on 9100 Bissonett. My appt was for 830, the guy didnt show up until 10, and word on the street is that they are VERY unprofessional and ALWAYS late. Word of caution.
