RN told she will now get LPN wages
As an Lvn I would never expect to get paid more than an RN. I mean, RNs do have more education than and LVN. More education should equal more pay. My brother in law just recently moved to Arkansas and finished his CNA school. But because he is bilinigual, they are paying him more. He called the other day and told me they were offering him 20/hr!!!!! HEEEELLLLOOO!! I worked so hard for my LVN and my BIL is working as a C.N.A and getting paid more than I am?? I was really upset. Not at him, at the situation. I'm very happy for him, but disappointed in my pay. I was tempted to relocate to arkansas myself!!! Heck, if he's getting paid that as a cna, what would my pay be as a bilingual LVN?? So i understand the frustration from the RN's.

Tell us about you!
I have a question for those of you who are independent PDN's, actually maybe two.... 1.) is the pay different? i understand you get paid was medicaid bills? but is there any difference between independent and agency as far as pay? 2.) when you need time off, for whatever reason, is your pt without care? or is there someone else who cares for them in your absence? I'm just curious. I'm not interested in it (yet) or anything. I was just reading through the thread and had these questions pop in my head.

Bayada Nurses or PSA Healthcare
I know and understand that I should have been a bit more vocal in the hiring process. I should've asked more questions before accepting the position (which was never really "offered" ) I just feel that if I knew that I wasn't going to stick around long, and mom was really looking for a permanent nurse, then leaving when I did and allowing the agency to find someone who was/is going to be that nurse was the best thing to do. The patient wasn't going to be without a nurse. The nurse I was precepting was actually the nurse who's shift I was going to take over, she just didn't know it yet. (this told to me by DON at interview) Apparently mom was unhappy with her or something. But she was there, and the weekend nurse was there. I was an extra body for a few days. In my opinion, it wouldn't have been fair to mom for me to stick around for a while until another opportunity came, then leaving her, and the agency, looking for someone else. I don't know, maybe Im wrong, but I acted on what I believed was the right thing to do. I interviewed with PSA and I'm really excited for it! I know what i'm walking into this time. I know as a nurse I'm going to face many, many, maaaaaaany difficult situations and i just need to learn how to handle them in a better manner. I love nursing, i always have. I plan on learning from this experience and making myself a better nurse out of it.

ok. i did NOT abandon my patient and i did NOT bail early. I went in after my 2nd day and resigned my position. I stuck to the 2 days of training that I had been given thus far, and at that point, I already knew that I did not want to be there. Yes, I posted on a public bulletin and I understand that you can say what you wish. I was simply venting.

Loved my first week as a private duty nurse!
Lori P Where are you in texas? im from the rgv and the pay for PD is around 17-20/hr depending on case (vent pt) and differentials. Is that around what you're getting? You don't need to share specifics if you don't want to, but just a ballpark figure.

I have other offers, and am actually starting somewhere this coming week. I wouldn't quit if I didn't have a back up plan. I did do med administration in school and yes mom could give me a rundown and I know I am qualified, but I was taught to not administer meds or even touch the patient without researching first. Atleast knowing something about the patient, SOMETHING about the meds being given. Excuse me for wanting to protect my license. With everyone I spoke to, they all told me I did the right thing by not administering the meds. (all nurses) I am lucky enough to not have to worry about the financial aspect of it all. I didn't "need" the paycheck. I do it because I love it. I wasn't happy, so I quit. I do believe that's my decision to make and not have to worry about someone calling me out on it.

oh, and i forgot to mention that when i went in to the HH agency to quit the DON was completely RUDE and unprofessional! She started off by asking me "what the heck is your problem?!" Strike one. Then she tells me that she has "chingos" (im in south texas, chingos means a lot) of applications, so i thought "why so upset that i'm quitting then?" strike two. finally, she proceeds to tell me that "real nurses like whatever they do wherever they are" strike 3. I wasn't happy there, and I knew that the pts mom ( pt was 7 mo old) was really looking for someone to be a permanent fixture, and I knew that wasn't going to be me, so why waste mom's time and my own?? If i was a nurse that only cared about a paycheck, then i would've stuck around, but i have morals and a conscious. I thought she was completely and utterly unprofessional.

Bayada Nurses or PSA Healthcare
I am a new grad, and I had gone EVERYWHERE filling out applications. I went to nursing homes, hospitals, HH's...everywhere imaginable. On a Saturday afternoon I get a phone call from a HH agency and i was stoked!! She asked me if I could go in Monday morning for an interview, and I thought, "yes!finally!" So I go in, and this DON was talking a million miles a minute and I had no idea what she was talking about. She never mentioned private duty or anything but kept mentioning "shifts". I was confused bc i thought HH nurses did visits. Anywho, she never "offered" me the position, rather she just walked me to HR to fill out paperwork. She didn't even discuss pay with me or anything! I know I could've/should've stood up for myself, but i was so confused at this point. I went to orientation the next day and after all the boring videos was sent to her office again, where she proceeded to tell me about the pt i was going to be visiting. She didn't tell me the hours or anything, until i finally asked her wth was going on. I was to report to pts house the next morning with my preceptor. Ok, i thought, cool. I 'm starting already! I showed up the following morning, only to find my preceptor was a noshow. I called the office at 830 and .....get this.....they tell me to ADMINISTER THE MORNING MEDS! and wait for a nurse to show!! umm...that would be a negative! i just got my lisence, i'm not about to lose it without even getting my first paycheck!! so needless to say, I trained with them for 2 days and bailed. It wasn't for me. Then I got a phone call from PSA. I really wasn't feeling this private duty thing, but the more i think about it, the better it is. I'm planning on doing my LVN to RN transition through the college network. I've read an alarming amount of negative remarks regarding PSA but it sounded alright. The pay isnt the best, but right now, either noone is hiring, or their pay is "alright". At this point, I just need to take what comes my way. I'll be furthing my education and hopefully finishing the RN program within the year. My official interview is tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes.
