HPRP get legal advice first
It's sad they take such a punitive approach to addictive and psychiatric disorders. They'd save a lot more people if they followed their mission statement, but they are a for-profit company after all. Another thing I've noticed is they send reps to doctor's offices and teaching institutions giving biased information about their program. I now see health care workers who are afraid of seeking help because they know there is no longer a patient provider confidentiality that's legally upheld when HPRP gets involved. Providers are encouraged to turn over patients to HPRP, which obviously has a negative impact on patients coming forward. I'm thinking of a class action law suit. Is there a lawyer that may be interested in this?

What is your opinion/knowledge base on recovery programs?
michigoose, I'm glad you're doing well. But understand patients who go through the program in your position of having been caught first or having their lives saved tend to have a positive impression, because of the situation you came from. I can't go into detail of my situation for fear of reprisal, but many like me never had an addiction problem or legal problem or caught doing anything. We had false reports against us or other similar circumstances, and we are treated like criminals who are guilty until we can prove our innocence. worse still we have to prove it to an organization like the Michigan Health Professional's Recovery Program (HPRP) who makes money by condemning us of being guilty. I don't know how your states program is run but I am doubtful it's any better. I would bring legal action against HPRP if I could. I would appreciate if others who have been wronged by HPRP help me to get the word out about what this organization really is in hopes of changing the way thing are done, so hopefully in the future we can clear our names and pursue our careers. Perhaps we can get a reporter interested in our stories? Please let me know if anyone has any ideas how we can go on the offensive with HPRP.

It's a great idea to have a program in place, but it needs to be sympathetic to the enrolees rather than treat them as dangerous liabilities. The MI HPRP program is set up so if you sneeze wrong they can say you're not compliant and you won't have any recourse if they accuse you. I'm pretty sure this was done so they can maximize length of "treatment" for their enrolees and so their profits. It seems there are few enrolees that finish their first contract. They call you non-compliant, report you, and make you sign a longer harder contract. I urge anyone who had addiction issues to find health professionals that will treat you without going to HPRP. Don't get them involved if you can help it. Actually I know many cases where patients could have used a good program but delayed treatment because they didn't want to loose their careers by going to HPRP. This program has only served to enlargen the conflict of interest for professional needing help. I don't feel I can ever be honest with any councelor, doctor, etc in fear of them overreacting and reporting me to HPRP. Having such a terrible program such as Michigan's Health Professional Recovery Program is certainly no better than if there wasn't a program in place at all!! My sympathy to the many professional that are caught between this rock and hard place.

Professional Health Monitoring Programs
What do you mean a mental health assessment exactly. The therapist and addictionist I saw already said I don't have a problem, but HPRP made me be monitored anyway based on weak arguments. I can't go into details becuase they can figure out who I am and I don't want retaliation. Maybe when my case is over in who knows how many years.

Professional Health Monitoring Programs
I would appreciate if you're aware of a fair addictionist, and therapist. HPRP is really destroying everything I worked for, and I never even had a drug problem. Just email me if you don't wanna publicly post. If anyone needs a lawyer I know several. Thanks,

? about FirstLab or drug testing...
the harder they make it for patients the more likely you might mess up and they can have a customer for longer.
-
? about FirstLab or drug testing...
sorry meant from first lab to fortes. they're a business after all and gotta make money.
-
? about FirstLab or drug testing...
The reason HPRP changed from forest to first lab is so they could save money. They don't care about your convinience.

I find out tomorrow
did you get the job

If I'm not being clear I mean that change the clause where you need their approval where to work. it's a bunch of nonsense so they can have patients at their mercy,.
-
I find out tomorrow
but if you do it after you sign they're not gonna approve it because it's easier for them to push you around that way, and they have no reason to accomodate you.
-
I find out tomorrow
IF you don't get it changed ahead of time you can do it later by submitting a request.

Before you sign the contract you can try to get those clauses changed with a good lawyer.

Professional Health Monitoring Programs
sometimes too, they seem decent at first and you won't know till it's too late that they're there for themselves only and not you.
