3rd week in home health, ready to quit
I only in HH for 3 months...this is third company. they all back out on what they say . They are making me code my SOC's. i AM NOT READY FOR THAT! but if i dont i get called into the office (75 miles away). They are not willing to work with faxing the oasis , mailing it etc....(like they said. I am covering a different county and they want me to act local!!) i had post op, recert and visit today but spent 8 h ours on the road and in the office doing corrections!!! Cant make a living that way!!

No More Corrections!!
Isnt there a program that i can input my Oasis data into? It seems to me that I should be able to: to take a program like my company uses (Time Tracker,) load it into my palm pilot, link the Dx section with the ICD9 code book that i have loaded online(so when i write in syncope the code automatically comes up instead of me searching a book) input the assessment data (i am now writing on paper and then clerical people inputing and coming back and telling me what doesnt match and what corrections need to be made) correcting right then and there, lock it into THEN leave the patients driveway!! download to main computer at office from home viola.........same time, same visit Oasis completion. Is that to simple of a idea or does every home health agency need a staff of five non medical clerical data imputers trying to read my writing and then me having to follow behind (for free of course since I am per visit only) and correct there imput errors. I just am getting very frustrated :angryfireand fed up with the seemingly repetition and waste of time this paper oasis is causing!! ITS SENT TO MEDICARE ONLINE!! I SHOULD BE ABLE TO WRITE THE DATA ONE TIME!!! But as of now i am spending 3-6 hrs a week correcting and verifiy my SOC's. ARGH and i dont get paid for it!!! Help Madeline

Survival Tips for First Year Nurses
I ca't seem to agree with ya'll!:chair: As a new floor nurse there were tons of stuff that I saw 'seasoned'nurses doing that I dont ever want to do. Standards of care that I dont want to do..I liked my education and theory of nursing. When i opened my mouth to ask questions the 'seasoned' nurses got offended. like i was questioning their motives, when i was asking rationale. If something a 'seasoned' nurse is doing that doesnt coincide with what I was taught and what the state licensed me , I should have every right to ask the rational (its my responsibilty to know) if I am being instructed to do something else! Its not the newbie fault if you get offended. that is something we all must look inside ourselves for. Seasoned nurses out there , lets please remember that the newbies to the floor are fresh and the most up to date technology and research data. That is priceless if mixed into reality. So please give the newbies a chance and not be so defensive!!! lol

What to look for in a agency? newbie to HH
HI all. Thank God I found you!!!!!!!!!!! I am a new HH nurse....love it to death but like all others i hate the paper work. I am confused, i have worked for three agencies since August and find totally impossible to make a living. I get per visit, (RN so i do roc,soc and post and sn). between the time driving, gas, paperwork, driving to turn it in, the case mtgs, the calls into office to do corrections, the phone time cordinating disciplines and soothing family and patients------then I get to do care and eduation and assessing (thats the fun part) I figure I make about $4 or less and hour. Somedays I actually lose money going to work..... WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!! What is it I should be interviewing the companies for, Every place is so chaotic in the office, seems so unorganized, lots of chief and no indians and every office seems to change its 'how to do things' at least once a week. Is it crazy for me to ask for a cell phone (my was 500 this month cause of clients and coordinating teams from field), a base pay to cover the time i am 'coordinating' and my pervisit. I also dont have insurance, medical or dental? This one company expects me to print all my own teaching and med material with my own printer. I dont think so but my clients need it and i dont want to deny my clients.! Ok , codependant RN is asking for help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont want to return to floor , i love it but i get high helping in the field! I love it and want to find a way to keep doing it. Also , is there any way to determine if the company and its nurses have standards? lol seems like HH rns forget basic charting 101, PIE. lol Sorry so long but i really need help. Where best info to give pts how expidite with out rushing how to learn coding how to make a living how to organize etc etc etc and do i have to sign everything they shove infront of my face when i walk in the office (RN only can sign?) I have been refusing til i review the chart but remember i dont get paid to sit and review the charts ! and i am NOT signing my license to something i know nothing about.....is that unusual? Madeline

Help what do i do I ABSOLUTLY LOVE HOME HEALTH, my pateints and the docs love me. This is my place but I dont see me making a living.!!!

Your Worst Mistake
Have you not worked since this incident by choice or did you lose license? I made the same mistake but caught myself after injecting 10....but i was about to push in 50 units. The doc brought it to my attention that he is not concerned with insulin errors....they can be fixed. I thought ......."oh yeah". so the fear of killing someone left wtih that when it comes to insulin. (i also have changed my way of doing insulin. So i did learn from the mistake) But i see today that my errors are largly part of administration and understaffing.
