Greater Lowell Tech
Well hello Sawyer, we chatted way back when before school started. I tested at Fitchburg, as well as GLT, went to FItchburg. I graduated and am taking my NCLEX this Monday.....I see you all got very busy and posting stopped, thought I'd check in and see how everyone is doing? I've thought of you often and wondered how different our courses were, I know I was out straight with no time for such frivolous postings. I am very nervous about NCLEX as most everyone is. Will be so glad when it is done.

Pearson Vue Trick Works!!!
Has anyone gotten the good pop-up but failed? I take the test Monday, we usually get results in 2 days but would be nice to try this trick....don't think anyone from my class has tried it...no one has mentioned it.

Any been through the Monty Tech LPN program in MA..or will be in the fall?
Hi Gracie, The 2011 class just graduated tonight! They tell you not to work more than 30 hrs (I believe) Trust them, most of the class didn't even work that many hours. They are serious when they tell you that if you fall behind, it is VERY hard to catch up, the workload does NOT get lighter as the terms pass. Class is from 4-10 pm M-Thurs, Friday is your only wk day off. Clinicals once they start are 4-10 pm on wk day nights (class time (not class work) gets cut down when clinicals start) and 7-3pm every other wknd. There is a TON of reading, written assignments, and a few projects....you are always busy. With no family here to help, you are going to need very good/reliable child care, have a Plan A & Plan B. There is quite a bit of traveling for clinical sites, Athol, Gardner, Groton, Clinton, Fitchburg, Worcester, you will end up at about 5 different sites. Hope this helps you get a better picture of the upcoming year and what you will need to prepare for. Good luck!

Would you ever own a motorcycle? YES or NO?
These are always tough questions. I ride, I've had an accident, luckily no major damage to me. I've worked as a CNA in rehab, saw several motorcycle accident patients. The ones I saw were all going to recover, I know plenty don't. I also saw plenty of stoke patients who were never going to completely recover and would be in worse shape than the accident patients. Soooo...there ya have it. "Stuff" is going to happen, we do our best to stay safe, that is all we can do. Enjoy life as best you can.

Meg & CMOBrian, Ok, I'm back from vacation.......lets meet! We have 2 wks exactly before school starts!!!!!!!!! I'm available day or night.....what works best for you two? Not sure of a good meeting spot...do libraries have rooms where you can talk? Leominster? Fitchburg? I'm not sure where else to suggest....any ideas? I bought the men's shirts as I heard someone say the woman's don't stay tucked in. Still haven't sewn patches on but we have until our first clinical.....not sure when that is. Not the first week anyway. Hope to hear from you soon and get a date set up.

How was CPR? I did my class already, not my first class so more like a review. I am not done with all the work, I've done most of it but was afraid if I did all the Structure & Function to far in advance, I'd forget it all by start of class. I've been concentrating more on the math as that is my weakest subject. I am almost done with the math book, on Chapter 19. Now, just because I've gone through all the chapters doesn't mean I'm a whiz at it at all. Still need plenty of practice....do we need to have all those formulas memorized? I'm a gonner if we do...... that will take a lot more practice to get them all down without looking back at my notes or the book. UGH! Maybe we should put up a check list of everything that needs to be done, I'm afraid I'm going to forget something. 1.1st 3 chapters of Struction & Function 2.Worksheets on prefixes/suffixes, etc....all came stapled together 3.What flash cards are we suppose to make? 4. Student Nurse handbook, Chapters 1-6 5. ATI Online Tests-Maybe 4 or 5 tests...how to study, ESL student, etc... can't find the sheet right now for exact names. Have I forgotten anything? I quit my job, so am now home during the day, trying to get life in order before school starts, studying, and vacation for 5 days, starting this Sat. I have all my 1st semester books but haven't ordered beyond that. Have to sew patches on still and get all white shoes. Yes, I am nervous too, wish it would just start and get this dreaded anticipation over with. Is anyone interested in getting together before school starts to go over anything or just talk about our anxieties...hahahaa!

Hello Christine, Glad you decided to post, I am hoping more students will. Your just about finished with the requirements???!!! WOW! I've done a little of everything, completed none of it so far. Started with the Chapter 2, suffixes, prefixes...then decided maybe I should start working on the math since that is my worst fear/subject. Did 6 chapters and decided maybe, I better start looking at the A& P on Chapter 2, taking lots of notes and doing the workbook. Can ya tell I haven't been in school for a really long time....I'm all over the place. I haven't sewn the patches on our shirt/coat sleeves yet, I don't see where it says which sleeve...anyone know? I'm going to guess....Left! I've signed up for the day CPR class, on the 27th I believe, any one else taking it then?

I was wondering if we have lockers to store our books/stuff. I'm leaning towards having a different 3 ring notebook for each class, in hopes that I won't have to carry a heavy notebook all day. My understanding is that we will be in only one classroom, so no long walks from class to class. I haven't got any helpful suggestions on book bags, haven't figured that out myself.

Hi Linda, How are you doing with the Math? Are you going chapter by chapter? I have been, I'm up to Chapter 7, 16 still to go and I know they aren't going to be getting easier!!!! Do we need to have the whole book done by start of school? Seems I remember it being said that a math test will be given the 1st wk, then what you didn't get a 100% on you start working with the tutor and by the end of the 1st term we have to have 100% on all the math....do I remember that correctly? The book gives two ways of doing the math, good ole paper & pencil or the use of a calculator and to use one or the other through out. I also seem to remember that it was said that we would be tested on the computer with use of calculator...so that is the way I have been doing the math. How about you? Can ya tell that I'm really STRESSED about the math!!!!!!!!!!!! I just don't want to flunk out because of the math...I'll be soooo mad at myself for letting this stupid math phobia do me in. Sure wish I had MADE myself do math long before now. A&P, need 1st 3 chapters read by start of school....right? I'm still on chapter 1, I've done some of the workbook and some of the CD. I've been concentrating more on the math:rolleyes: Well, I've rambled long enough. Donna

Meg. are you looking to buy a desk? You might want to check craigslist. I just bought a new desk and wish I had checked there first. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20. I have a smallish computer desk w/hutch, blonde colored veneer. 36 3/4" wide, 57 1/2" tall, 23 1/2" deep. Has pull out for key board, one drawer, slots for CDs, open area below drawer either for computer, or storage. In good shape, I just have needed a bit bigger one for a long time and school gave me the push to get one. Did you get your uniforms yet? ttyl, Donna

Hey Meg, Matthews Medical Books, can order online Montachusett Regional Vocational Tech. School: Home You may want to stop by the school and pick up another form as there are 6 or 7 books you need for 1st term. 2 books on Maternity & Pediatric won't be published until late Sept, Ms. LaFrance is aware of that and says that is ok, as we won't need them in Sept...whew! I only have one more to order. I have already started the math (my worst subject) really nervous about being able to pass the math 1st term. I've started a little of the Anatomy & Physiology, haven't done any of the ATI program yet. Got uniforms today; the shirts are a little tight, not sure what I will do about them. The rest fits well. Getting office/study area all clean up and straightened out so I won't have to deal with that once school starts, everything will be in place. What have you been up to? Are you freaking out about anything or all calm cool and collected? ttyl,

Keep posting on here as I'm sure we won't know who is who on Monday night. Math is my worst subject so will be doing a lot of studying/practice over the summer. Waiting to see what else I need to be working on.

Greater Lowell Tech
Well, I didn't pass for Lowell. Didn't think I would. Passed for Fitchburg and had my interview last week, awaiting my yeah or nay letter. The testing was so different at each school, who would have thought, both challenging, in different areas. Lowell has sooooo many more postings than Fitchburg, not sure why. Good luck to you all, Zeldalee

Hi Meg, Congrats on getting your acceptance letter! Do you have any wise words of advice on the interview? How many people do you meet with? Do they give you a tour of the school? Did you have many questions to ask them? My interview is next week. How long did it take to get your letter? Wish more students from this current year had written of their experiences during the year. I understand it is tough, I'm pretty nervous about that already. Already planning to get my entire life in order in the next couple of months if I get accepted. Thanks for any info you can share.

Hi Sawyer, Wish I could be so confident, math is my worst subject. JUST passed the math on the TEAS and will have to continue to study it all summer to get up to speed for classroom math. I do admit it is coming back, but slowly, wish I had decided on pursuing this sooner so I would have had more time to study. I hear ya about traffic, I wouldn't want to get up at 5am to be on time either. I will either be taking 495 North or the back roads, hoping neither will be a nightmare. I just so want it to be over, and then the wait for finding out if you passed will be a killer, was told it takes about 3 wks...UGH! What is the interview process like? Is it real formal? Do you get all dressed up, if it is close to after work hours, (I wear a uniform often, or casual slacks/top) would I want to get changed, as in, dress up? Thanks for your encouraging words. I bet you are anxious but before you know it Aug will be here and you will be saying....I wish I had done this or that before classes had started, I have no time for anything!

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you have it all under control with great help from your family. 9 wks to go....your gonna make it...yahoo! Any idea of what you want to go into when done? Any thoughts you can share on the interview process and about how long it takes to hear from them after the interview. Thanks for any info you can share.

Yes, First Day, my thoughts as well.....being more alert during the day, and not interfering with the sleep schedule as I know that you can't hop right into bed when getting home...no matter what time of night....I can't anyway. Even though we won't be in school on the wknd, I know a lot of it will be devoted to studying. I will update after test date....hopefully with a YEAH! but then still have to get through the interview, hoping to get admitted and not wait listed...being in that limbo would be really tough. Well, won't worry, what will be, will be.

Greater Lowell Tech
Hello All, I am signed up to take the NET test May 1st (last test) I took the TEAS test for Monty Tech, in Fitchburg, MA and passed. Monty Tech is very close for me but it only offers night classes and I'm thinking I would prefer days, so trying for Lowell as well. Hoping to start in Aug at one of the schools. I am finishing the application process for MT, 3 reference letters, my essay on why I want to be a nurse (when I grow up..haha) oh by the way....I am 54!!!!! So, I have all you young 40 yr olds beat for being the oldest....don't you all feel young now? I am a bit worried about being able to absorb and retain all this info in such a short time period. I do have a lot of years of medical background but still..... I was wondering how different the night program is from the day, read the great info on how day program pretty much keeps you busy M-F with test seeming to be Thru-Fri, so wknds need to be used to study hard. What is it like for night program since you have class/clinical every other wknd? I have read almost all 35 pages of these posts, you have all given wonderful information that is greatly appreciated. Good luck to all and will enjoy reading the outcomes from all.
