  1. I enjoy my job as an LPN at a nursing home; but I have a problem with a particular nurse aid who thinks she is the boss. She rolls her eyes, talks about me like a dog, mocks me, and tries to tell me nursing things that are not in her scope of practice. Do I have a right to write her up for mocking me when we were discussing important patient information for making fun of me? I feel she is extremely disrespectful to me as her boss, and I am trying to figure out the best way to deal with this. If I write her up, how would I phrase that she was mocking what I said to another person? It sounds like grade school stuff, but I am not getting taken seriously as her boss.
  2. I would not work for a place like that. Put in your two weeks and find somewhere more peaceful where it isn't dog eat dog.
  3. I had several of the instructors tell me I would never be a good nurse. One was trying to get me to sign up for arts and crafts. I am so glad I didn't listen to these fools because I am a nurse and a darn good one. My patients and co-workers tell me I am caring, and a great nurse. Just think if I would have gone into arts and crafts, how many patients could I help with a paint brush in my hand? I got the last laugh.
  4. Thank you for your advice you gave me last November. Sorry, I just read the post now. Hope you are doing well.
  5. There was an old commercial about deodorant that said, "Never let them see you sweat". Act as if you have it under control or they may let you go like they did me. I was given 64 very ill patients as a new grad. They said I lacked confidence and let me go. I feel this was very unfair to me. Just a word of warning, act like you are calm, cool, and collective.
  6. I worked a nursing home for 2 weeks as a brand new LPN grad. They put me on two halls of 64 very ill patients. They never finished training me or telling me about the rest of the paperwork when they were about to turn me loose alone. The preceptors I had were very rude and hateful. I could tell they weren't gonna give me a good review to the boss no matter what I did to impress them. When I asked for more training (they said in orientation feel free to ask for more training), the DON got mad and said, "Everyone else gets it at this point, why do you need more training?" After that, she told me I wasn't working out and let me go. I was shocked, but even during the interview she said I lacked confidence and she wondered if she should hire me or not. This has got me questioning my abilities as a new nurse, because I am about to start another nursing home this week (less patients at this place). I feel it wasn't me-- it was them for giving me 64 patients as a brand new grad. I need some advice or feedback. How can I portray the confidence I need at this new job, when I was kicked to the curb with the old job? Thanks.
  7. I'm a student nurse and wish I had one like you that would teach me. The nurse at the hospital I was suppose to get report on ran away and refused to give me report, let alone teaching me anything.
  8. I went to a community college where they were all out to get me. One of them screamed at me and said I would never be a nurse because I got one wrong on the math. Then during OB clinicals I had a young, cheerleader-type instructor on my heels so bad she caused me to have high blood pressure. I ended up in the emergency room and have been on blood pressure meds ever since. She ended up failing me in ob for some stupid paperwork and careplans. I waited almost a year to retake the class, and the second teacher failed me on paperwork also. I found out they were best friends and were on facebook discussing whether to fail me or not. I felt my paperwork was better than most of the students. Found out later they failed all the older students like me. Went there almost 5 yrs. driving 45 minutes a day one way only to have them fail me. Now I am at another school making hot grades. My careplans are flawless (don't mean to brag). The point I am trying to make is why are these teachers allowed to yell at you and fail you. I know it wasn't my work because I am doing very well at this other school. Some of these teachers are down-right dirty. They should be investigated.
  9. Keep plugging away at nursing school--you are too close. One day soon you will make good money and have plenty of time with your kids. The sacrifice may have to go on your shoulders with lack of sleep so you can spend time with your kids. It will be worth it in the end. Give them good quality time when you are with them, and they won't forget the love you have for them.
  10. You need to get a lawyer or fight yourself to get that red flag off your record with the board. I worked a horrible nursing home where I felt as if my CNA liscense was in jeopardy. There was a group of snotty girls constantly lying on me and the boss would do nothing about it. One girl said I did not pass the morning pills or change the residents on a certain wing. The kicker is is that I wasn't even working that area of the building! If something funky goes on my record with the state that I did not do, I will go to the fullest to make sure it is removed.
  11. I had an old cranky nursing teacher tell me I didn't have what it takes either. I was hurt and kept asking her, "Do you think I should quit nursing school?" She snapped at me and said, "What do you think!?" She was a real idiot, making herself feel better for yelling at me. Even when I got 100% on the math quiz, she yelled that I didn't show my work more. I failed, but I am back on track. The teacher forgot that she had to start somewhere too.
  12. This message is for Amybear. Thank you. You gave me hope to keep trying. I am starting another nursing school in May. I have researched them and found out they want students to pass. They have to answer to the state if they don't pass 70% of the students. I don't know why these instructors act like this. I don't know if it is a power trip or what. I had one yell at me and tell me I was in the wrong profession when I missed the math by 1
  13. What do you think of two instructors that get together and fail the same student for no reason? This first little cheer leader type instructor rode my back so bad in ob class, that I ended up in ER with high blood pressure. She conversed on Facebook with the second teacher from ob (took class another time after the cheerleader failed me) and teacher one told her to fail me. My grades were 90% but they failed me on some paperwork that I finally got the last day. Teacher two was pumping me for questions about who taught me the first time. She knew all along what teacher I had first, they were on Facebook with cruise photos together. Just goes to show how sneaky and unfair some of these teachers are. If they don't like you they will fail you. There were students that had terrible paperwork, they pass and I fail. It was all rigged.
  14. I like your answer, but we were never allowed to say we were "short on the floor" . Our boss said it made the facility look bad.
