  1. Do you work nights? Yes, having 6 patients in a day is crazy. It's even crazier when you discharge 2-3 during a shift and get 2-3 admissions right back! The life of a nurse!
  2. Do you guys think having 6 patients on a med surg floor on days is too much? Just curious to see what people think!
  3. I did my new grad residency at Rockford Memorial Hospital. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. There is classroom days and days where you will be on the unit. The first three months, you typically start on a med surg/tele or med surg/renal floor and have a preceptor that guides you. After that, you switch over to a different unit for another three months. You keep doing this up until 12 months is up or you take a position on a floor you have been on. My first rotation was on med surg/tele, then med surg/renal, then PCU, and I took a position on the med surg/renal floor after 9 months of being in the residency program. You get paid $23.50 while your in the new grad program from what I remember. I no longer work there because it was pretty far from where I live. If it weren't for the distance, I would still be there. There education department is excellent.
  4. He probably was trying to help but he should've told you that he would let the doc know about the situation.
  5. I know! It is nuts! We get up to 6 patients on our med surg floor. Last time I worked, all 6 of my patients were confused and were on bed alarms. 5 of them were incontinent. 4 of them required blood sugars. 2 of them had feeding tubes. I think three of them were complete care and required turning every 2 hours. 3 or 4 were on isolation for flu/cdiff/mrsa. I remember at one point, three bed alarms were going off at once...no wonder why patients fall. UGH! I want to pull my hair out just thinking about it!
  6. This happens to me so often that I started just bringing instant oatmeal to work and just eating that with a banana. Basically, I dont bring anything that needs to be in the fridge so I can just lock it in my locker.
  7. Hi all! How many patients are you allowed to care of at a time on your med surg floor during days or nights? In our hospital, on days, we go up to 6 and night shift can take up to 7. Just curious. I work at a hospital near Chicago.
  8. It blows my mind that people do this. It happens so often too.
  9. These last few weeks have been hell at the hospital I work at. Our census has been high for the last couple of week and the acuity of these patients we are getting is insane. Typically, I am pretty mellow and able to handle stressful situations well, but lately it has been a mad house and it is really getting to me. I have been a nurse for about 2 years now and hate to say this but I am getting BURNT OUT! Don't get me wrong, I love what I do, but sometimes these patients and families can suck the living life out of you. Poor communication between doctors and nurses also really sucks too! Sometimes I want to scream at these doctors for not updating us about what they discuss with family members. They tell the family members things but leave us in the dark about the plan of care. AHHHHH! I just need to vent! I am mentally exhausted and it is even making me anxious on my days off! I have never been like this before
  10. The company is called RSA Medical. I worked there for about 2 years before I started a new grad program in Rockford.
  11. hey! yes, it would be an amazing opportunity. i will cross fingers for both of us. i have a bachelor's in public health with an emphasis on health promotion as well as an ADN. did you get sent that online survey?
  12. Hey! I was just wondering if anyone out there applied for the Good Sam RN Residency Program. I applied last month and have not heard anything yet. I did get a link to fill out some sort of questionnaire type thing, but no phone call yet. I am crossing my fingers, toes, and everything for this residency program!
  13. The ATI predictability exam told me that I had a 97% chance of passing NCLEX. I waited 4 months to take NCLEX, read Saunders & my ATI books, and found out today I passed :) For me, I really thought that ATI helped a lot in preparing me for NCLEX. I almost felt that ATI was harder than NCLEX! Each person is different though. Good luck!
  14. HI! I took NCLEX this past Monday, did the PVT 5 hours after, and received the "good" message. I found out this morning that I PASSED! I am officially an RN. The PVT worked for me!
  15. I passed :) i am officially a registered nurse. The pvt worked for me! So freakin' happy!!!
