  1. Yes, you'll need to provide proof of acceptance or enrollment at the time of application.
  2. You may have to go to a private school, like Chamberlain or WGU.
  3. We are all getting our money. No worries, y'all. For this year. But go to the website and get on the email list so you'll know when the application period starts in 2026, depending on the government shutdown.
  4. I got the scholarship! I got an email welcoming me to the program!?
  5. Not yet. But they said the end of September so trying to wait the 2 weeks.
  6. No one has received an award. Those won't be decided til the end of September. They have requested COI - continuation of interest, along with an enrollment verification form. And my school has had the enrollment verification form, but it still hasn't been completed or returned to me, and I swear, if I miss this opportunity, I'm gonna flip! ?
  7. I just started looking into this program and it doesn't say anything about an interview on their website ? I'm waiting til I get my final grades from this semester for two pre-reqs before I apply. Does anyone know what stats they look for as far as GPA and TEAS score?
  8. To add to this, you want to look at the program. I applied to a traditional BSN program, knowing the university allowed second degree bachelor's students. But apparently not in the nursing program. It happens they're starting an ABSN for Summer 2024 so I'm applying for that now. You absolutely can start with an ASN, then use the bridge programs to get to where you want to be. And as mentioned, a lot of hospitals and healthcare systems will pay for you to get the additional learning. Especially since a lot want to hire BSNs or are making their ASNs get BSN degrees now. Good luck!
  9. Hello all! Been a long time since I posted here. Life got in the way but now, almost 20 years later, I think I'm finally going to nursing school! I'm applying for the new ABSN program at FGCU and was wondering if anybody else was too?
  10. i actually woke up with a terrible cold last week and had to cancel my interview at the last minute. it is rescheduled for tomorrow, well today, now that it's after midnight. topcat
  11. hello all! i will be interviewing tomorrow so i'll report back my findings. topcat
  12. we started unit 2 which includes ch 5, 6 and 7 this last week. i am using note cards galore to keep track. i still have to read chapters 6 & 7 before the end of the week, and complete the assignments and online labs by friday. i better get cracking. topcat
  13. it comes down to being really organized and staying on top of your syllabus. i am taking my pre-reqs (ap1, micro and chem) all online, so i have to be even more organized, since i don't attend a class anywhere. get a calendar or planner and get all the due dates out - just looking at them on paper will help with the anxiety. then you can strategize available homework/study times. take advantage of downtimes. i try to carry at least one textbook, in case i am waiting somewhere. try to find a quiet area in the lunchroom to read during breaks and lunch. and remember your screen name "want2banurse09" - you want to be a nurse. keep your eyes on the prize. and continue to come here for encouragement, as we are going thru the journey with you. good luck! topcat
  14. has anyone enrolled in the inaugural accelerated bsn class that started january 2009? what are your impressions so far? thank you, topcat
  15. it is pretty much like sand dollar described. i am taking a&p1 and microbiology online thru new mexico junior college. we have a discussion feature, where you are to make a minimum of 3 discussion posts: one to the initial question, one or more to a classmate about his/her response to the initial question or one to one of several secondary questions. she also uploads our assignments and labs. both are based on the readings and online slide shows and consist of short answer and multiple choice. well, the labs aren't multiple choice. we complete the word document and then upload it to the website for her to grade. here was our critical thinking question(s) for the integumentary system: main topic: structures of the integumentary system you may choose one of the following: janet has just returned from the hairdresser with a new, shorter haircut. she states that the new hairstyle has made her hair much thicker. is this possible? why or why not? or six months ago, chef edman sliced through the end of his right thumbnail. although the surrounding nail grows normally, this part of his nail remains split and does not seem to be "healing". what has happened to cause this? we don't have any quizzes, just the midterm and final. however, if you complete the survey at the end of each unit, you can earn an extra credit point, for a maximum of 8 points, to be applied to your lowest test score at the end of the course.
  16. my daughter is 4 (almost, feb 8). i take my classes online, so i can work on them anytime. she's currently in school, then day care until 3. i could allow her to stay until 6, but i pick her up so i have a set definite schedule for my classes during the day and then spend the afternoons with her. when my h gets home, he takes over to spend his time with her and i can continue studying.
  17. my mother was a nurse and could see i had the aptitude and compassion. she always encouraged me to go into nursing, because it was a stable field and it offered huge opportunities. my mother focused on occupational health and safety and became a vp in an insurance company - but was also able to go back to staff nurse, if extra money was needed in the family. my mil and sil are also nurses, and with such encouragement, i've finally decided to take the plunge!
  18. either way that's an expensive asn/adn. i suppose it depends on how badly you want it, leocadia. i can go to jc for an asn for about $7,000-$10,000 or i can go for accelerated bsn for $30,000. and i think i might not qualify for financial aid, because i might have used it all for my original bs. but i will find the money somehow. i want it that bad.
  19. leocadia - i don't have any info on either school, but are you able to get financial aid at keiser for their program?
  20. one of the downsides of online classes - no cancellations! this is our 3rd week of class and we are on integumentary system. this is another of my 8 week classes, so we move pretty quick. i can post examples of the critical thinking questions we get if anyone is interested...
  21. i find this very interesting, as an article in our local paper says almost the exact opposite: http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/jan/24/bz-health-care-jobs-hardy/ tampa - with the tampa bay area's unemployment rate continuing to surge, a growing number of people appear to be pinning their job hopes on the health care industry. across the area, health care companies and medical staffing agencies report a significant rise in the number of job applicants, many of whom are attracted by the stability of the health care industry. while almost every industry in the state has been losing jobs recently, health care is a rare exception and has added an estimated 37,200 jobs in the past year, according to figures released friday by the florida agency for workforce innovation. "we have been inundated for months with candidates who want to get into health care because they see it as stable," said seymie wilkerson, area vice president of staffing agency all medical personnel in tampa. "it's been a very interesting seven to nine months." on friday, the state released ugly unemployment figures for itself and the tampa bay area. locally, the unemployment rate hit 8.3 percent in december, a jump from 7.9 percent in november and up from 4.7 percent in december 2007. that compares with the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 8.1 percent and the u.s. jobless rate of 7.2 percent. almost every industry in florida has been feeling the pain recently. construction, for example, continues to be hammered, losing 15.6 percent of its jobs over the past year, and retailers have shed 5.2 percent of their jobs. health care, however, continues to hold up relatively well. some hospitals have cut workers here and there, industry officials say; but in most cases, health care companies have flat employment rolls or are selectively hiring. statewide, employment at physicians' offices is up 6.6 percent over the past year, employment at nursing homes is up 3.9 percent and jobs at hospitals are up 2.8 percent. that has caused many job seekers to flood health care companies with applications, even if there aren't enough jobs to go around. amy lovett, communications director for baycare health system, which operates health care facilities including the st. joseph's, st. anthony's and morton plant hospital systems, received 121,092 job applications last year. that's up about 55 percent from 2007, when baycare received 78,236 applications. the company attributes the increase to the economy, because it didn't open any additional major facilities in that year, lovett said. baycare continues to hire, especially for registered nurses and lab technicians. the company's turnover rate among support positions, however, such as information technology, human resources and other noncare providers, is exceptionally low right now because people don't want to risk leaving. so, there are few ancillary jobs available, she said. among other signs that people are seeking out health care jobs, erwin technical school in tampa reports strong demand for its health education programs, which have about 700 students. and at maxim staffing solutions, which focuses heavily on nursing, recruiters are seeing continued demand for nurses to work in the bay area's jails and prisons. in some cases, maxim's clients are cutting back on hiring contract nurses. "but corrections is not going anywhere. it's been a big niche for us," said maxim accounts manager ryan burd.
  22. i am completing the pre-requisites online through new mexico junior college and st. petersburg (fl) college. i am applying to nursing school at remington college of nursing near orlando. the school's inaugural class started this month, january 2009. i hope to be in the second class starting in july.
