Marymount Accelerated Fall 2011
Hey guys! You can pm me any questions you have about housing if you want! I remember looking and it was quite the struggle. The rent prices are high and the traffic is crazy, but there's so much to do, I'm willing to bet that you'll love it!

Which test scores are you referring to? the ATI? Just as an aside, Marymount looks at every part of your application. Your references and past experience is important too! I say go for it!

When to Apply for a new grad job
Hi! I'm in a A-BSN program and my class graduates in December. We're all a little confused as to when we should start applying for jobs. We've been told August, but will hospitals hire prior to taking the NCLEX? Will there be nurse preceptorships/ internships available for us since we'll be graduating on an "off" semester? I'll be applying in South Carolina, but my classmates will be applying in Virginia, so any advice is welcomed!

Marymount Accelerated Fall 2011
There are summer classes! You'll have two weeks off in May and about 3 1/2 in August!

Marymount Accelerated Fall 2011
Is this for your rankings for Medsurg clinical? We only had one clinical/ week our first semester. I really liked having Wednesday off, and I had mine at Virginia Hospital Center on Fridays. I can tell you that Holy Cross Hospital is a long haul if you live in Virginia in the mornings! You'll be going against the traffic!

Marymount Accelerated Fall 2011
Hi everyone! First of all, I'm in my third semester at Marymount, and so far, it's been great! The tuition is very expensive, so that's definitely a downside, but Marymount seems to have a pretty good reputation in the clinical area (a lot of the nurse managers have told us how much they love us!) There are definitely some organizational problems/ class scheduling issues, but I feel like that's a given for a small University. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions!

Marymount Accelerated BSN - Spring 2010
I agree that the tuition is excessively expensive. I'm in my first semester as well, and so far I haven't had any problems. A lot of the teachers are indeed new, but I like *most* of them, and all of them have taught in other programs. I know that some people in my classes have had issues with transfer credits and financial aid, but that's not really specific to the program, that's just the issues of a smaller school administration. If you're looking for that kind of efficiency a program at a bigger school would probably be better, and cheaper!

Honest Opinion - Marymount Accelerated BSN - 2010/2011
I think in general it's hard to maintain nursing staff, part of the nursing shortage problem is a lack of educators. From what I'm told, a lot of our staff is new, but there are definitely some seasoned instructors, and even our new instructors have experience at other schools. I think what you take from any nursing education is what you put into it. As far as employment goes, D.C. is a great place for new nurses, regardless of the school you go to. A couple of my friends who already graduated from Marymount received scholarships with employment contracts before they even graduated. I made a lot of new friends in my first semester. You're assigned to one of two schedules and every class you take is with the same group, and everyone in your classes is second-degree, so you're bound to get to know people!

Honest Opinion - Marymount Accelerated BSN - 2010/2011
Hi! I'm in my first semester at Marymount and from what I've heard from previous students, the program has changed quite a bit in recent years. I've noticed that we also have a pretty good reputation at our clinical sites among the hospitals and instructors. So far, my experience has been pretty positive.

Marymount Accelerated BSN - Spring 2010
blb5103, I'm in my first semester at Marymount and I know for a fact that the earlier you apply the better! I'm not sure if they'll consider more than one reference, but I would try specifically calling the admissions office at the school of health professions for questions. I had some problems getting in touch with them initially as well, but someone should be there during normal business hours. My cumulative GPA was actually on the lower side, but I did have a lot of clinical experience and my prereqs were all finished. If you're worried about your GPA, I recommend taking the optional TEAS test. It's relatively easy, enhances your application, and it shows you're really interested in the program. Hope this helps a little!

For those of you who haven't heard back yet..have you tried emailing an admissions counselor? their email addresses and which students they cover are listed on the website. It may be helpful to contact your specific counselor.
