Hey tokmom!!! Just wanted to let you know that my clinical instructor for my RN Refresher course graduated from GCU in 2014 just like us!! She said my name looked familiar and perhaps we had been in a class together....I did look, but I don't think so.

tokmom --- I haven't been on here very much, but I now want to publicly proclaim, CONGRATULATIONS to you, as well as say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for being my buddy throughout these past 16 months and always having my back. I still remember meeting you here on AN while I was doing my research on schools. GCU wasn't really on my radar, but after chatting with you, I decided to give it a go , and I'm sooooooooooo glad I did!!! You've been the best buddy ever, girl!!! THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

One other thing, you will find that getting a response quickly is really up to the instructor. I had some that took a little bit longer, and some that were super fast. I'm sure you will find that is pretty much the same at any school.

Hi Debs12, I just finished up my RN-BSN at Grand Canyon University this past Sunday. The program is 100% online which is why I chose it. I had applied at 6 different schools, UTA being one of them and GCU won out. Because you are planning on going further in your studies after your BSN, you better make sure that wherever you are planning to attend post BSN will accept WGU's grading system. Good luck!

Good for you lil_owl, very smart to have stats out of the way. In regard to a decision on which program to choose, GCU is 100% online. I had looked at 5 other schools before deciding on GCU. Tomorrow tokmom and I start our last class.... with the dreaded capstone!!!!

Murse2013PMI --- How many courses have you been told you need to graduate? Tokmom and I were told 12 classes. However, a friend of mine is only required to take 11. She is exempt from one I had to take. Have you taken something similar to Professional Dynamics in the past? Let us know what happens. You've peaked our curiosity. ;-)

Flames9_RN --- I wonder how they grade? I'd hate to have to read all those papers...look at all the PPTs... very monotonous. Maybe there's a program that picks up certain things that are required in the paper. Much like HR does when they review a resume. I really have no idea though...

Like tokmom, I am OUT of that insane class too!!! I emailed my advisor and requested a change. JRich --- Just curious why you'd want to double up on courses? 5 weeks goes by extremely fast. This is me at the end of each 5 week course, lol!

Yes, easy to fill out CLC agreement but not so easy to haunt down some team members if they decide to play invisible man or woman. We once had a member that was a no show the whole way through. No amount of contact from us stirred her from her slumber. Until of course, it was the last minute, and we were about to submit the assignment. Not sure how she was graded, but the instructor was aware of what was happening.

I ditto what tokmom says about stats. Although I must say I probably took out every single stats book from my local library, lol.

Gikg - I made a mistake....I'm only on the 6th class of the program (NRS 437 = Ethics). I got a little ahead of myself, lol. Oooops!! I am in the 7th course. One of the classes dropped off on LoudCloud so it looked like I was only on the 6th course. Duh!!!

It must be a group project phenomenon. My research class just ended last Sunday. We had one person that did absolutely nothing to prepare for the PowerPoint presentation. We did shout outs to her on the team forum and total silence. She showed up a few hours before we had to post, and never mentioned a word....no apology, no nothing! I do wonder how she was graded.

Flames9_RN - Oh yes, you will be a pro at writing papers and APA style after doing a couple of them. Good luck!

Hi gikg, I am currently in the 7th class of the program. Don't stress too much. This first class will introduce you to the world of online group projects. That is probably the part that is my least favorite (well, besides stats and the research class that I just finished one week ago). You will also be writing in APA format but I imagine that having just graduated from ns you will be a little ahead in the game. The group project is a PowerPoint by the way, and the success of your group is dependent on how everyone gels together. That is one thing that I've found....every single group project I've been on always has an individual or two that don't pull their weight. It is maddening, and my suggestion to you is to keep on top of the project. I am fortunate that I have a buddy in the program (we met on allnurses!) and we manage to keep things straight. The discussion questions aren't terribly hard but you have to keep on top of them because you have to answer the first one by Wednesday and the second one by Friday, as well as participating to two classmates on three separate days of the week. Of course, you can prepare your responses ahead of time and just post as needed. Good luck in the program. Try to get a buddy if you can because it will make your life a bit easier.

Congratulations mschelee! It must feel wonderful to be finished with the program. And now you are on your way to np! :) Is the np program on campus or online? Now, if I may ask about research.... how is that class? I am starting the 4th week of stats tomorrow so research is creeping up very quickly. Do you have any advice for this class? Is it stats heavy? By the way, you are so right about the group projects. It is better to take charge from the get go to ensure things get done. It also helps if you ask to be placed with someone you know. So far I've been lucky and the instructors have accommodated the request. I hope it continues that way... Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Well....it's not my favorite subject, but I'm surviving. We just started our 3rd week yesterday. How does it feel to be almost done? I can't wait.... As far as research goes, the only thing I've heard is that there's a lot of quantitative vs qualitative studies. I think there's a group PPT, but you must be used to that already as just about all the earlier classes have that assignment. I'm not sure about the other assignments. Overall, I think stats and research are the ones that make students cringe. Once those are over, things can only get better. At least that's what I tell myself.....

Before I even went to nursing school I was an inpatient. Two of my nurses, quite young, had little tattoos of stars on the back of their necks. Is there any meaning to that? I have now seen a few nurses with the same type of tattoo. Just this week I was working in the OR and one of the surgeons had a tattoo on his arm. I think visible tattoos will become mainstream within healthcare teams. That is just the way it is.

Hi casiegarcia! You start in just a few days, very exciting! I think I mentioned before that I don't use Grammarly, and I see that tokmom has already given you the information on pricing. For me personally, I think it's a bit expensive. There are many resources on the internet that can help you with formatting. Once you have one paper formatted, you can re-use it again. That is exactly what I do. I just pull it up, and start typing the new paper. There may be a few tweaks you'll have to do here and there, but nothing you can't figure out by searching the internet. If you are totally terrorized by APA formatting, it may make you feel better having Grammarly, but honestly, you can do it on your own too. It's just a matter of your comfort level, really. So......good luck on Monday. Take a deep breath and plunge in. Five weeks go by fairly quickly.

Congratulations casiegarcia! And excellent idea to have someone with you throughout the program. Your co-worker will either love you, or hate you at the end. Kidding!!!! It will be good for both of you. Make sure to tell your advisors that you want to go through the program together. They have a special section that accommodates "twins". We're starting stats in less than 2 weeks. Eeeek!! Hopefully it won't be as bad as we think. Good luck, and enjoy your last weeks of freedom. Bwahahahhhahaha.

Good for you casiegarcia! You are very lucky!! Will they make you take another class to fulfill the graduation requirements? If they do, at least you get to take what you want. I'm jealous!! You are starting at the end of July?
