SUNY Downstate Accelerated BSN june 2011 class
I think realistically, the C's will hurt. My impression is that they will "forgive" a few clunkers in a long ago bachelors, but your current pre-reqs, especially the science pre-reqs, should be stellar. Best advice would be to make an appointment with the admissions office and sit down with someone face-to-face and ask. This year they accepted about 40 from 500+ applications, so they can afford to be choosy.

Questions regarding SUNY Downstate Accelerated Nursing Program
Yeah thats the feedback I got from a non-Downstate absn as well. She said that OB (and all the clinical classes) have more reading but less technical detail than foundation classes like patho, pharma, assessment. and for that matter less detail than anatomy and physiology and microbiology as well. you agree ?

SUNY Downstate ABSN incoming Spring 2011 Thread
NNNNNNNNnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooo lol from all indications, that would really be pushing it. from reading posts here, and speaking with some of the admissions people, sounds like we'll all be sleep deprived and shell-shocked for the duration.

my 3 choices are queensborough CC Laguardia CC and Bronx CC .
take note that at the CUNY/SUNY schools, the tuition is ultra-low vs private schools, and the quality of the education is high (for most schools anyway) -- so the competition for the few available seats is brutal. SUNY Downstate for example had 500+ applicants for 40 or so seats. Laguardia CC usually has 300/400 applicants for 40-50 seats in the RN program. BMCC is even worse. So when the literature says C+ or better average in the pre-reqs, thats technically true, but admission in most is purely based on GPA ranked top to bottom. So a 3.7 or better is more realistic (A- vs the literature's C+).

How to Study Pharmacology for NCLEX-RN
I'm currently taking Pharmacology in preparation for entry into an Accelerated BSN program. If someone wanted to make up a REALLY comprehensive set of Pharmacology questions for any standardized nclex (pn/rn) no one would have enough time to study anything else imo :) so my question, how comprehensive/detailed are the nclex pharma questions, and has anyone found a good nclex geared review book for pharma. just what WE need to know for the exam.

you should not lose hope -- each school uses differnt criteria to rank their applicants. Downstate is very quantitative, with the various GPAs and to some extent TEAS being the predominent factor. Some other schools weigh other factors (personal statement, resume, interviews, volunteer experience, etc) more heavily. You may not make the waiting list at 1 school and be a top candidate at others.

apparently the changes on the checklist do not necessarily happen b4 you receive your pack. while some see the changes b4 they receive their letter, mine didnt change until a week AFTER. as far as what they're looking for, last year the average gpa was supposedly about 3.5 - teas is uncertain, because version IV way different tracking than V, but what the adm people have said is that 80-85% on math and science is considered ok. iow, wont disqualify you if your gpa's are all strong (cume/prereq/science-prereqs).

no interview. I think most of the SUNY programs do not have interviews at the undergrad level. most years they each get 400-500 apps for 40-50 seats, and budgets being what they are...
