  1. Thanks for the review. I'm glad the content has been helpful. Great suggestion on formatting transcripts! I'll get that updated. also, I'll work on saying "okay" less. We're actually redoing the older videos now! So glad to have you as part of the NRSNG Family! Jon Haws RN CCRN

  3. Any other CURRENT information about the Baylor TDA program?
  4. You do not have to be an extern to get an intern position. I am sure it would help as with any other facility just having an in helps but that is certainly not a requirement.
  5. Where at in no cal? Chico, redding or farther up?
  6. Which health system in dfw? I make $24 base $4.5 night $6.5 weekend time and a half ot and $10 bonus I work with Methodist
  7. I work at Methodist Hospital Dallas as a brand new gard: $24/hour base $4.50 night $6.50 weekend $10 bonus Last two week paycheck was $3500 with working 4 days.
  8. I graduated from MCON (methodist college of nursing in peoria IL). Overall I will say that I in fact am a nurse and now work in a VERY busy Neuro ICU in a Level 1 Trauma hospital in Dallas Texas (Methodist Hospital - - - no affiliation). Some of my favorite professors who made the entire experience worth it have left for bigger and better things which means that the weak professors have managed to linger and probably move up the MCON ranks. In the end if you wants to become a nurse than you will accomplish that at MCON, but you will pay a price, seriously it is wildly expensive and beware of bad instructors, several with simple MSNs from U of Phoenix with little experience in the actual field of nursing. Just focus on Medsurg and Pharm that will help you the most on NCLEX and in your career. Find a buddy and study on your own as much as you can . . . that is how I did it.
  9. TexHaws replied to CCRN86's topic in MICU, SICU
The SICU did have a change in managers, I currently work in the Neuro ICU at Methodist Dallas and love it> From what I hear the SICU is doing well. It is a VERY busy SICU if you want skills and exposure than it is a good place to go. In general Methodist is an older hospital, but this summer they are completing a brand new Critical care tower and we will be making the move to Level 1 Trauma. Our Neuro ICU will become 32 beds. I like the pay at Methodist . . . the base pay is a bit low, but the differentials make up for it and I work mostly weekends.
  10. I make $24/hr base with differentials of $4.50 for nights and $6.50 for weekends. When all is said and done, I generally make between $33 and $38 per hour.
  11. I am a brand new grad. Base pay: $24.00/hr Night Diff: $4.50/hr Weekend: $6.50/hr Bonus Pay:$10.00/hr Last paycheck for previous two weeks: $3500 working 4 days/wk. I work at Methodist Hospital of Dallas in an ICU
  12. I currently work at Methodist Hospital Dallas in the Neuro ICU. I completed my internship in December and have been "let loose". It has been a great place to work. They have good differentials $6.50 weekend, $4.50 nights. We do serve a "fun" population as we are located downtown in Oak Cliff but you really get to see a broad spectrum of cases and grow your skills. We are building a new critical care tower that will be completed in the summer which will take our Neuro ICU to 32 beds!
  13. I am currently a second degree student at MCON in peoria il. I have had both negative and positive experiences, but I will tell you that my overall experience with this methodist college of nursing is quite negative. if you want more info check out my blog . . . mconmalenurse . blogspot dot com
  14. You can feel free to visit my blog mconmalenurse . blogspot dot com The school has a lot of growth and changing to go through before it will ever be a great school. I am doing well but have been extremely frustrated with many things at the school
  15. I am in the 2nd degree program and am a Senior. I have mixed feelings about the program. In the end, as with anything you get what you put into it. I have done well and have put a lot of time into it. Feel free to email me jonhaws(AT)gmail or i have a blog with some of my experiences mconmalenurse it is on blogspot
  16. the blog is a basic review of some of my experience the good, the bad, and some tips. it is mconmalenurse and it is on blogspot
  17. Thanks everyone for your opinions
  18. Lets not get angry here, but it blows my mind that anyone with an ounce of knowledge regarding the physiological process of the body wouldn't be upset by this
  19. How about this one from the same class . . . I am starting to get a little worried: Alcohol consumption recommendations indicate that: A. Men may consume 20 ounces of red wine daily. B. Women may have up to 6 ounces of spirits daily. C. 48 ounces of beer exceeds the daily limit for men. "right answer" is supposedly A. Which statement about the use of ACE inhibitors and ARBs is correct? A. Both stimulate the sympathetic and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone systems B. ARBs quickly reduce the vasoconstrictive action of angiotension II C. ACE inhibitors are contraindicated in patient with diabetes Again "right answer" is A. To my understanding and according to LeMone & Burke Medical-Surgical Nursing these are both incorrect. Maybe I am not as crazy as some of you think. This was one a test for hypertension.
  20. Thanks for all your input guys. . . just seeing what others thought. . . I know it does no good to argue over questions and as I said I don't normally do this, and this one question will have no bearing on my grade. Simply seeing what the thought process was. Teacher was not able to tell me why C was correct (she did not write the test of course). In fact when I initially asked her about C she said "obvious misprint" only to go back on that. The only reason she gave me for not giving me credit was that over half the class did not miss the question. Annoying, but as it has been said. . . . you can't fight it!
  21. I am not saying that D is really correct. I am saying that C is wrong. . . big difference. C would also be correct if it were worded differently . . . but it is NOT.
  22. I agree. . . If we are telling them false information is that really "therapeutic". Like I said I don't ever really argue questions, but this one is really messed up.
  23. see i guess that is what bothers me . . . the idea that "who cares if the information is correct" mindset. . .
