RN in nursing home
I have a love hate relationship with my job. I adore my patients every one of them they make me laugh and sometimes cry and drive me nuts all at the same time. I enjoy taking care of my patients. The problem with LTC is poor staff to patient ratio among the other numerous issues I can name. So people that hate LTC don't hate the job they do but hate the standards of the job. I'd love a hospital job I'd actually love doing a geriatric floor in the hospital because in a hospital I'd have better ratios, better benefits and better job security

What do you do after getting lab results in at a LTC
PT INR I call the doctor and write a note on his response for other labs I loom for abnormalities and if something is way off I call the doctor if I'm already calling the doctor for another reason I might just throw in "Mrs Jones lab results are in for you to review" if it's a normal lab

impossible resident
You've gotten a few great tips here I've had a few residents who do the same constantly need to use the restroom one particular resident can self ambulate and wipe herself so if we all work together we put her in the common bathroom and just watch since she's pretty independent and the more confused residents can be distracted sometimes I will just change the subject like saying "oh I saw your son came yesterday how was your visit" and sometimes this alone makes them forget they wanted to go to the bathroom and then I have others I can explain they will go as soon as someone is available and I show the clock and just like I have done with my kids at home tell them "when that arm hits number 6 it will be time to use the toilet".

Lazy supervisor stories
As a floor nurse I don't even have 5 minute time to take lunch some days it's nice to hear there are supervisors that can waste 45 minutes

Violent/combative residents?
- Lazy supervisor stories
I wouldn't want a supervisors job I know a good supervisor has their work cut out for them. I have supervisors in my place that are excellent mentors and love to teach and guide the new nurses others that are excellent nurses and do a damn good job but aren't the kindest to their nurses and then you have the ones like the one I discuss that really does nothing for the staff or residents on her unit and creates a poor work environment. My CNAs know what's what they actually beg me to take a break and never think my job is only passing pills but I'm also the nurse that will spot a Hoya lift toilet a resident and do other minor things to help my CNAs.- Lazy supervisor stories
Unprofessional is when your actions or reactions affect the job you do directly my silly post rant isn't hurting anyone since its anonymous without the use of names or any indication of the place I work.- Lazy supervisor stories
Honestly if someone started a lazy floor nurse thread it wouldn't bother me since it wouldn't apply to me because I'm not lazy! Just as if a supervisor on this thread knows they run their unit well and aren't lazy shouldn't take offense to my topic! I have a lazy supervisor if she reads these threads she would probably be one of the few that would be offended by my topic. But I think of this as a lighthearted and fun way to vent my frustration and see if I'm not alone- Lazy supervisor stories
Make me feel like mine isn't the worst!! Share funny stories!!! Mine doesn't move all day and barks orders she will walk past a call bell and yell at the closest cna/nurse who is busy with another patient for not responding haha but on a serious note are there more like this out there?- I hate being a Nurse
I love my patients every one of them even the demanding ones! I love patient care but I hate being a nurse because working LTC I feel there is no patient care! My day focuses on med pass, treatments, and charting!!!! Some days I have 40 patients and I'm the only RN. I get out of work 2 sometimes 3 hours late and there are days every muscle in my body aches from running all day! I wanted to be a nurse more than anything and have my license for less than 2 years and am so sad that I feel this way after working so hard to make it this far I never imagined I would be this unhappy!- St Pauls School of Nursing 2010 Acceptance
