UCLA new RN residency program 2010
I'm getting my BSN in UT and got the email last Thursday but no phone call yet either. My app status says "application received/assessment completed" so i'm guessing the status isn't all that accurate......Since I'm from out of state and still got the email, I think they aren't putting location into consideration much.

how long was your personal statement? should this be a couple of paragraphs? 1-2 pgs? since they weigh the personal statement so heavily, i just want to make sure i can be concise and thorough in my writing but have it be at the appropriate length...

California New Grad Programs 2011
Just thought I'd start a new thread for the new grad programs in 2011 since the application dates are coming up soon for the Feb/March cohorts. If you guys know when applications will be posted, it would be wonderful to share it with everyone! So far these are the ones I know of that start in Feb/March: USC- apply month of October UCLA- from what I heard, applications go up in November but nothing on the website yet (if anyone knows anything more specific, please tell!) White Memorial- website says apply between Sept-Jan, but I don't see a specific date Loma Linda, Hoag, Cedars(?)- no info on websites Anyone know of any others that start in March and when application deadlines are?

3.25 GPA required for new grad position???!!
it really is too bad that you can't really take into account how difficult your nursing program is, because that definately does make a huge difference when it comes to your GPA. my program is probably one of the tougher ones out there, because to get an A you need a 95%! honestly that makes me mad because it's not like nursing classes aren't hard enough, but they have to set the percentage at a freakin 95% which is seriously impossible to get in some classes. luckily i still have a pretty good GPA. it'd be nice if the employers who ask for GPAs could somehow take that into account.

UCLA New Grad Program 2010
Question for all those who got hired: did you guys all have your license already before getting hired? And also, why do you think you got hired over other applicants? I just wanted to find out my chances of even getting an interview if I apply for the program that starts next March (?) when I haven't graduated or taken the NCLEX yet (graduate in Dec). I am working as an LPN right now though, have a 3.95, BSN, & ACLS, will those help? Thanks for you help everyone and congrats on getting the jobs!

California's 2010 New Grad RN Program
Thanks for your help and insight! What kinds of things did you put in your portfolio? Do they normally tell you what they need in it or do you just put whatever nursing related things in it yourself? Sorry if it's a dumb question! I'm not graduating till the end of the year and I haven't started applying yet, so just wanna get a head start! And also, what extra certifications do you have?

How do you get on the list to apply to county hospitals? You can still apply even if you're from out of state, right?

Good Samaritan hospital LA new grad program 2010
To all those who have made it through to the interviews, did you guys just apply online or were you able to speak to any nurse recruiters or managers? How high is your GPA? Did you have any work experience? Any special certifications like ACLS or PALS? Did you graduate from a BSN or ASN program? Just trying to get an idea of what kinds of things they look for that helped you get selected. Thanks for any info and congrats to you guys!

Tips from new grads who got job offers
Thanks for the tips and advice! I'm not from out of state so I can't really do the whole networking thing even though I know that's the most important part. You guys have any other suggestions on what I can do to make my resume stand out? I'm planning on getting a few certifications in the summer and start applying early in October (I graduate in December). I'm also thinking about putting together a portfolio and flying over to meet the nurse managers and personally giving it to them. Anything else I could do that might help? Would getting some experience as an LPN, having a high GPA, and BSN help at all?

Tips from new grads who got job offers
I just thought it would be helpful to all of us new grads who are searching for jobs to get some tips from those who were able to land job offers since it is so tough out there right now. What tips can you guys provide? What do you think set you apart from the other hundreds of applicants? Did you have a high GPA? Did you have work experience as a nurse assistant or LPN? Did you volunteer? I'm sure any tips and advice would be helpful to us job searchers out there!
