Yes I am! I'm nervous because I don't know what to expect!

Hi guys, I am going to go through the same process next week for the school nurse position. I was wondering what I should expect. How do the group interviews work and what should I expect on the test? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I know it would be tricky to switch to hospital nursing from doctor's office but at this point, I'm not getting any calls from hospitals AND nursing homes so I can't sit and wait for them. The only call I've gotten was from a doctor's office so that shows that they're the only ones right now that's willing to give me a shot. So if I get asked during a phone screening what my salary requirements are, I should just say, "It's negotiable"? I need to find responses without having to give a number first...

So next time I get asked the dreaded salary question, what is the better response without scaring potential employers away?

yep! I 100% agree! We definitely need ANY experience we can get! Once we have SOME experience as a registered nurse on our resumes, we'll be getting more calls!

I would have been willing to consider taking the job at a lower salary, but the lady never told me what salary they were willing to offer when I asked. I've been thinking about the appropriate response for when I get asked the "salary question" again. Should I just say, "it's negotiable, what salary is your facility offering for this position?" I really hope I get another chance again soon.

What is a typical hourly salary for a new RN in a doctor's office in NYC? I got my first callback and it was from a doctor's office in Long Island. The lady asked me what kind of salary I was looking for and I said "24-26/hr". I think she got startled by that and said, "Um, well, in these times, our office can only a salary very different from what you ask for." I asked what kind of salary they had in mind and she kept saying that it's different from what I said and then said she had to get back to me. She hung up before even saying goodbye. Was I overshooting? I thought it was fair for all the responsibilities she said I would have (height, weight, bp, hx, injections, teaching, scheduling, follow-ups, blood draws). Please tell me what salary is fair to ask for without scaring away potential employers!

No, I have an ADN. That's why I asked if orgogeek had a BSN because Elmhurst usually puts "BSN preferred" on their job posts. Ahhh! I hope I get a call sometime soon! I'm already starting to pay back my loans.

I just google searched it and it came up. It comes in pdf format so you can print it out. I just used a spare notebook and answered every question they have there in it. I think that's all you can really do since you don't know what they'll ask. I suggested this guide to my friend who was going for an interview and she said like 95% of the questions she was asked came from the guide! Did you apply to Elmhurst online? I guess I'm just not lucky!

Hi! First of all congrats on scoring an interview! Second, how did you even get it!? I've applied to Elmhurst multiple times and even mailed a resume to them and I never got one call! Are you BSN? Thanks for all the input. I was mostly uncomfortable with doing it because I just got licensed and have yet to find employment so I really wasn't sure if this was something that I was allowed to do. I know that I would have been comfortable doing it if I was working for the facility that gave it. This was the first time I was asked to use my name and license for a document so it definitely intimidated me.

My friend had her ppd done by her school but was unable to get there to have it read so they told her to have an RN or her doctor read it. Of course, she thought of me since I just became licensed as an RN in March and she asked me if I could read it and document it on her form. I told her I didn't feel comfortable doing it since I didn't administer it myself or see it done to make sure it was properly done. Was that irrational of me? I just worked so hard for my license and I'm so new that I don't know what my limits are and I didn't want to risk it whatsoever. Please give me any input :)

Yes, that's exactly what happened. I wish she just said "I'm sorry, we don't currently have any openings for new graduates with ADNs" and ended it there.... Thanks for the support. That phone call was definitely the straw that broke the camel's back. I definitely hope things turn up from now on...

So I'm a new grad and just like all the other new grads, I've been having a tough time finding a job. I had all of my friends hand out my resume to people with connections with hopes of at least landing an interview. One of the people with connections to a hospital I've actually done rotations in called me tonight. It started off as an ambush interview and ended w/ her basically telling me that I'm not desirable right now as a new grad w/ an ASN. She gave me a 10 minute lecture about how I shouldn't be picky and take any job I can get, even in a nursing home (which I HAVE applied to, with NO responses). I almost cried on the phone but waited till we hung up before bawling. I'm so devastated. I know how horrible the economy is today and how BSN's are more desirable. I really feel down on my luck. I DO want to get my BSN but right now I can't afford it. I was hoping to get a job so I can afford my tuition. Now, with no job and no BSN, I really don't know what to do.

ohh okay! thanks for the quick response! :) Does anybody know what the etiquette is when it comes to the HHC's that don't have their openings posted online? Like Elmhurst Hospital? Should I just go to the hospital and apply/give them my resume even though I don't know if there are any openings? Thanks

thanks for all the advice guys. :) sitcomnurse: I'm a little hesitant about per diem work because I'm don't think I'd get proper training for it. But I definitely will follow your advice about adding that I am going to continue my education on my cover letter. That's a good tip and something I didn't even realize I should add! I still have yet to even score an interview but I have my pack of thank you cards ready for when those calls come! :) nurse educate: all the doctor's offices I have checked out require at least 1 yr of experience so that is out. I am going to be more aggressive with my nursing home applications... I have an associates and I DEFINITELY want to get my bsn but I currently don't have the money to do so. I really need a job so I can further my education. Any other advice is appreciated! :)

I'm sure most of you are probably tired of seeing all the new graduate posts about not finding a job in NYC, but I just have to vent my emotions. I have applied/sent my resumes out to many hospitals..I even tried hospitals in Westchester and in Orange County. I have not even received any rejection emails except for one from NYHQ which told me that they were hiring experienced laid-off nurses from NYC first (which I understand). I sent a resume to an agency recently and they responded by saying they would notify me when they find a match but I still haven't received a call. If anyone out there can give me advice or ideas on how I can get a job I'd really appreciate it. I have also tried nursing homes! Any new grads out there that have gotten hired recently, please tell me what you did!! I'm beginning to lose my confidence and self-worth because of this!

Has anyone ever gotten a job from this agency? If so, I have a couple of questions. How does the process work? Does the company interview you prior to linking you with a job? Did you have a good or bad experience with them? Any responses would be helpful! thanks!
