  1. Unfortunately I got waitlisted... Is anyone else in the same boat?
  2. I got injured at work and I feel like my current employer may not have my best interests in mind. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and am looking for a worker's comp lawyer but am not sure how to go about finding one. Yelp isn't the most helpful in this situation but how do I find a trust worthy lawyer? No one at work seems to have any ideas or connections. Basically I want to make sure that a couple years down the line, I don't want this injury coming back to haunt me. I'm having pain that makes me feel like this might become a chronic issue. People keep telling me I'm "young" as if that's supposed to eradicate my symptoms. But BECAUSE I'm young, shouldn't it be alarming that I'm having this type of pain and discomfort? Some legal advice and resources would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Yes I just interviewed. I have a friend who graduated from the PNP program and she said she didn't have to interview.
  4. Hi I also applied to the UCSF MSN program but for the FNP track. Which speciality did you choose and will you be attending an interview?
  5. I would like to work per diem at this hospital. Could you advise what I should ask as my hourly rate? I have 1 year of experience in Med/Surg as a RN. Thank you!
  6. Hi I was looking into getting a per diem job here but was wondering what the base salary would be here for a Med/Surg nurse with at least 1 year experience. I want to make sure I'm making just as much my male nurse counterparts!
  7. I was wondering if anyone recently interviewed/ got hired at the West LA VA Medical Center. How long (from application to official offer) did the process take you?
  8. Don't be too anxious about feeling like you bombed an interview! After several interviews, I realized it's not always exclusively about what answers you give. It's more about connecting with the interviewers and making your personality shine!
  9. It's literally 10 minutes. There will be someone from HR outside timing and giving a 1 minute warning.
  10. Does anybody know what the earliest available interview day was? Are they starting interviews next Monday?
  11. Because they specifically wrote that note, it would be best NOT to drop by unannounced.
  12. Although I have not received the good news, if you interviewed with them within the last month, keep your phones nearby! They have just finished with interviews and are notifying selected candidates! Good luck everyone~!
  13. personal policy and the organization covers.
  14. I currently volunteer as an RN at a community clinic. I juggled multiple tasks at once. Some of these tasks include: performing diagnostic tests, phlebotomy, assess and triage walk-in/ appt based patients, performing in-take/vital signs, administering vaccinations/immunizations, and assisting providers with other tasks and procedures. I also encounter a very diverse pt population including: tourists, non-English speakers, opioid addicted, homeless, pts with coexisting diseases/conditions, mentally ill, teens, adults, elderly, and LGBT patients. Since it IS a community clinic, sometimes the waits are long and patients can get angry and violent. So, you need to learn how to handle situations where there may be unruly patients. That's all I can think of on the top of my head. Hope that helps!
  15. everyone who filled out the online application will receive a packet.
  16. from my experience, it takes about 3-4 days so i wouldn't be worried about it at this point.
  17. Hi all, Just wanted to start up another forum for CHLA's Versant New Grad RN Program for the March 2013 cohort. Here's a link to CHLA's page: http://www.chla.org/site/c.ipINKTOAJsG/b.3579535/k.2A87/RN_Residency__Pediatrics_Nurse__RN_Versant.htm The online app should only be open for a few more days apply now and GOOD LUCK!
  18. TheCommuter, sorry to hear about all the back and forth but I truly admire your persistence! --- To all the new grads who interviewed: Were you told when they would be getting back to you? I interviewed a little over 2 weeks ago and was told they would get back to me after all the interviews were conducted. However, I wanted to see if those that interviewed later had more up-to-date info.
  19. The folks over at Kern are very nice and welcoming people. They tried their best to make me feel at ease! I think that says a lot about the work environment and the culture of the hospital. Good luck on your interview!
  20. Having a preference will not jeopardize your chances. They will ask what your choices of units are.
  21. It also depends on where you are currently looking. Also, do you have any experience as an RN? If you have no experience and are still in school, it may be difficult to find employment. What are you doing besides school and sending out applications? Are you volunteering? It helps to volunteer on a unit/floor of a hospital you would like to work for in the future. I was volunteering in small community clinics but have learned that it would've helped to just volunteer at a larger hospital that I would want to work at. Community clinics do not have the funding to hire fulltime, unexperienced new grad RNs.
  22. i have started to put into practice the methods i have found through this article: https://allnurses.com/nursing-job-search/how-i-got-689384.html and the link found in it. have any of your classmates found jobs? i would ask your friends to write referrals for you or email the nurse manager of a unit you want to work for (but the hospital where your friend works) and mention how much your friend likes working at _________ hospital, in addition to why you want to work at that hospital. i realized that name dropping (even if it's your new grad friend) helps a lot.
  23. As a New Grad RN, I find it incredibly encouraging that you talked about your mistake. Talking about mistakes isn't just a learning experience for you, but I'm finding it really educational for myself. So thank you for your honesty!
  24. Interviewed with Kern Medical Center this week. They are interviewing hundreds of applicants this week and throughout the next few weeks.
  25. It is definitely difficult to find a job as a new grad. If they are talking about shortages, it is probably in reference to the shortage of skilled nurses. Many new grads would consider themselves lucky to land a new grad job in Kern County.
