$12 an hour?!
i just cant believe how we are getting screwed!! i moved to wyoming from huntington beach, ca. i moved here to finish up school to become an rn. when i was in california, i was working in the emergency room making 20.50hr which isn't to bad for an lvn. (lpn) now in wyoming i cannot get a job in the er to save my life. it's like these people don't believe that i have the ability to run circles around their 4 bed er. its like they dont expect young people to have enough knowlegde to be a good nurse. i was running the wound care center then when i came back from maternity leave i went to the er. hellllo i had 5 patients at a time in the er 20 patients a day in thw wound center!!!!! i just dont think that people will ever understand how hard we nurses work!!! so i get to work in the freaking ltcc (long term care center) and my wages are 12.86 hr, and thats good in the ltcc they pay a dollar more an hour. i have nothing against working in the ltcc but while i was in school to become an rn i would have liked to keep my nursing skills fresh, if i just wanted to keep up to date on my meds i would read my palm pilot everyday. but i cant complain to much because in california we had a one bedroom apartment that we payed 1300.00 a month for. now we have a 3 bedroom house with a study for $500.00 freaking dollars a month. hahahahaha i could not believe it. i know that texas is expensive so 12.00 wont get you very far. i can see why the pay wage is low here, but not there. hey i guess it allright, 12.00-20.00 an hour who cares that we could contract mrsa, aids, tb, hep b, all kinds of fun stuff, a little bit of poop in your hair or piss in your eye. i think that 12.00-20.00 is plently of money sign me up!!!!!!

Steps to becoming a flight nurse
Where exactly are you going in California, unless you are going to go to Northern California you will run into the same crap!!!!! I just moved, I was working at Huntington Beach Hospital in the ER, they have 12 beds and the fast track has 6 beds. It is a significantly smaller hospital, but I have to tell you that I have never worked with a greater group of people. Everybody was so helpful/ I dont know about you but I hate laziness!!!! Not here everyone pulls their own weight. The director was amazing, she was always willing to get her hands dirty with us when we were slammed. I have only worked in a couple of ER's, but that was by far the best job I ever had. Just a little something for you I wish you luck in California, it really is a great place.

have you had an abortion?
BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH I SWEAR THIS ISSUE IS NOT ABOUT US PEOPLE ITS ABOUT CUTIECAT. I THINK THAT YOU SHOUD DO WHAT YOU FEEL IS BEST LOOK AT YOUR LIFE IF YOU THINK THAT YOU ARE READY FOR A BABY THEN HAVE IT IF YOU HAVE A GOOD MAN TO HELP YOU THEN HAVE IT IF HAVE A GOOD INCOME AND YOU WONT HAVE TO BE ON WELFARE THEN HAVE IT EVERYONE IS ALWAYS GOING TO TELL YOU THAT THERE ARE SUPPORT GROUPS THERE IS THIS THERE IS THAT BUT IN ALL ACTUALITY NONE OF THESE PEOPLE THAT ARE TELLING YOU TO HAVE THE BABY ARE GOING TO COME OVER WHEN YOU NEED HELP. THEY WILL NOT FEEL THE PAIN THAT YOU FEEL IF YOU WERE TO GIVE IT UP FOR ADOPTION. ALOT OF THESE PEOPLE ARE THE WRONG PEOPLE TO ASK. I AM SURE THAT YOUR A STRONG GIRL NO MATTER WHAT YOUR DECISION HOLD YOUR HEAD UP AND STICK TO ITAND KNOW THAT IT WAS THE RIGHT THING FOR YOU. NO ONE CAN MAKE THE DECISION BUT YOU. NO ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO INFLUENCE OR CHANGE YOUR MIND EITHER DO WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT. IF YOU BELIEVE IN ABORTIONS THEN YOU SHOULD NOT TAKE ADVICE FROM CRAZY PROLIFERS CAUSE ALL THEY WILL DO IS MAKE YOU FEEL BAD AND TELL YOU ALL THE BAD THINGS ABOUT IT.

have you had an abortion?
YOU KNOW THE THING THAT SUCKS YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO BRING GOD INTO IT SO IF HE HAS PLANS FOR EVERYONE THAT MEANS THAT PEOPLE CANT HAVE KIDS FOR A REASON. HE HAS PLANS FOR YOU AND IT IS ALSO OUR CHOICE IN WHAT ROAD WE TAKE, LIKE ABORTIONS OR ADOPTING KIDS OR ARTIFICAL INSEMINATION. I AM SORRY THAT YOU CRY YOURSELF TO SLEEP AT NIGHT BUT I AM SURE THAT GOD HAS PLANS FOR YOU ALSO MAYBE IT IS NOT TO HAVE KIDS BUT TO HELP ALL OF THEM OR THER PEOPLE WHO CANNOT HAVE CHILDREN. I THINK THAT FOR YOU TO TELL HER TO CONSIDER ADOPTION IS SELFISH OF YOU. SHE IS ASKING FOR ADVICE NOT FOR YOU TO TELL HER WHAT YOU WANT. THIS IS ABOUT WHAT IS MOST APPROPRIATE FOR HER LIFESTYLE NOT YOURS.

Would you assist in abortions?
PEOPLE ARE GONNA DO WHAT THEY WANT, WE CAN BI#TCH ALL WE WANT NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE AND WE WILL BE FIGHTING ABOUT THIS FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. IF YOU ARE A NURSE ITS YOUR JOB TO HELP PEOPLE, YOU ALSO HAVE A CHOICE IN WHAT FIELD YOU CHOOSE TO WORK. IF YOU DONT BELIEVE IN ABORTIONS THEN DONT WORK WHERE THERE IS THE POTIENTAL TO ASSIST IN THAT TYPE OF PROCEDURE. I AM SURE THAT ALOT OF YOU BELIEVE THAT WOMEN SHOULD BE PROACTIVE AND HAVE RIGHTS TO DO ALOT OF THINGS. TOO BAD YOU WANT TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT A WOMAN HAS THE RIGHT TO DO. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ONE THING DO YOU ALL THINK THAT IT IS OKAY TO STAND OUTSIDE OF AN ABORTION CLINIC AND MAKE WOMEN FEEL EVEN WORSE FOR WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT TO DO. OF COURSE YOU DO BECAUSE IN YOUR MIND THEY ARE TRASH. :angryfire I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT A PROLIFE WOMAN WOULD DO IF SHE WERE RAPED, OR MOLESTED BY A FAMILY MEMBER WOULD SHE HAVE THE BABY AND GIVE IT UP AND THEN LET THAT CHILD FIND OUT THAT THEY ARE A PRODUCT OF SOMETHING HORRIBLE THAT HAPPENED? I AM SURE THEY WOULD BECAUSE GOD FORBID THAT THEY THINK OF ANYONE ELSE BUT THEMSELVES.

Survival Tips for First Year Nurses
I am also an LVN you wil do just fine. Dont worry so much, I know that it is natural. I would be worring about you if you were thinking you already had it nailed. As for your friends it sucks to think that all they want is higher pay. Why would you want to lose out on all the amazing things you could learn. I have been an LVN a little over a year and I have already worked in wound care, med/surg, tele, and now I am in the ER. I strongly believe that the more wel rounded you are the better nurse you are. Soak it up girl you will be happy with the decision you have made. The is nothing wrong with workinjg in a LTC but only if you are doing it for the right reasons. I studied for two days before I took boards, turned off at 90. I took the cd rom from the back of my nclex and took practice tests until I scored an 80 then I stopped I was nervous but I knew I was ready. Dont focus on what you think will be on the test focus on the things you have learned, you critical thinking skills is what will help you. ABC's, saftey, you will know what I mean....... Good luck!!!!!!!!

Survival Tips for First Year Nurses
1. Be accountable for your own actions. 2. Be ready to work your butt off without complaining about it, you knew they were 12 hour shifts when you got hired. 3. Ask for help when you need it. 4. Never assume. 5. Do not GOSSIP! WHO CARES WHO DID WHAT AT THE BAR LAST NIGHT! It will get you no where and always seems to bite you where it hurts in the end. 6. Take initiative dont wait for someone to tell you what to do. 7. Leave prejudices at home no one wants an ear full all day long of things you dont agree with, Bi***ing gets old. Especially when you are busy and dont have time to listen. 8. Leave the CHIP on your shoulder at home at all times!! Take tips from exp nurses, take advice in whether you want to or not you dont have to do it, you can take it and work it in to your own style, nurses DO NOT LIKE new nurses that think they know everything. 9. Do not depend on other people to do your work refer to #1 if you dont understand. 10. Be respectful at all times to patients, doctors , and most of all your fellow nurses. 11. Do not track down your aide to do an ingenious job that will take you 2 seconds word will get around. They will make your life a living hell you will never be able to find them and they will not be very cooperative, atleast to your face they will be. but not behind your back. 12. When you are having a rough time take a break, you have a long shift to work just remember you will be going home soon, and someone upstairs is just testing your patience. 13. The most important thing that I think you can do is SMILE and be PROUD that you are a nurse when times get rough just remember why you became a nurse in the first place.

Would you assist in abortions?
You are right people should learn to take better care of themselves, but would you say that to a teenager or woman that was raped and is now pregnant. I think not... You need to think of both sides not just yours.

Help With Contractions, 3 Days Now
Thank you all for all of your help. I had Madeline Elizabeth on March 29 at 2256 my membranes ruptured at 0520 I went to Hoag Hospital and 17 hours and 56 minutes later I was still at 4cm it sucked. I had pit and that sucked too. I earned this first baby. Her head was in the birth canal, I had a fibroid that was not allowing her to pass. So that is why they decided to do a c-section and for the fact that it was about to be 18 hours and high risk infection. Well so my beautiful little girl was 5 pounds 11 ounces and 18 1/2 inches long. I cant believe how much I love her. THanks again ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) :)

What not to say / do while you are in the ER...
Sorry I was not trying to offend anyone, just stating the facts that she was big and scary. Last thing I am is racist. Black women are just a bit more intimidating, especially when she is 6ft and you are 5 1" she weighs in at 200 and you at 125. I have a tall dark drink of water at home, if you know what I mean.

Survey of Nurses Rights In Abortion
I agree with you 100%, People forget why they became nurses in the first place, that was to help people. Not to judge and refuse to treat pts because they are fat , ugly, stink or because of decisions made....... Most of our pts are unpleasant but its not up to us to refuse the care they need. Its none of our business, its our job to do what needs to be done, to make sure the patient is safe and comfortable and receives the best care no matter what.

Survey of Nurses Rights In Abortion
:rotfl: Well said, Well said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As nurses there are alot of things that must be done in order to care for the patient. We choose the life of being a nurse and therefore must perform procedures that we do not agree with, but in turn it is not our choice, we are doing what needs to be done. Therefore if you dont like to see patients hooked up on every machine possible dont work in ICU, if you cant handle drug seekers and trauma dont work in the ER, sick babies NICU....... I just feel that as nurses we should not judge patients for what decisions they make. No one is forcing us to do anything that we do not want to do, but we should not make people feel bad for their decisions. We choose were we want to be. When I was 20 I had an abortion it was the hardest decision of my life but I did what I felt was the right decision for me. The NP that was treating me was objecting my decision." Are you sure that you want to do this, you know that you dont have to do this, do you not have a mother that can help you" First of all it was none of her damn buisness its her job to help me with my decision, or get someone else involved that is willing to show me compassion. To top that off at the abortion clininc I have some freaking crazy woman following me around telling me not to kill, that god will not forgive me. I am sorry when I looked at this woman she did not look as though she could heal people or walk on water. I felt like sh*t, that was not right it was something that I choose to do. Now as a nurse I never judge anyone, I give them the compassion that they need. That is my job, to give love and care no matter what. Thats what I signed up for!!!!!!

Would you assist in abortions?
Hello KMSRN, I excuse the fact that you didn't understand the point I was trying to get across. The point I wanted to reach especially you with was the number of kids that represent sad statistics due to abuse and neglect is outstanding. Not all unwanted and abandoned children are going to be beaten and raped, but will feel the emotions that you are angry with the situation, Or where a woman was probably pushed into keeping a child while only being 14 and finds it hard to make any rational decision with her mother, grandmother, and aunts applying pressure to make the right choice....or is that the boyfriends and all the other men in the situation? Another point, when does the soul truly enter the body. Is it at the second of consemation? In my opinion, your not interested in even considering the realm of true anatomy and science and rather protecting your argument by hiding behind your religion. You are under the assumption that you are going into heaven. The fact is, that I leave my personal prejudices at the door to help people that are in need and within their legal bounds. If all abortion were to be illegal I would not be assisting. I would however be assisting the women that are dying due to having back alley abortions due to your unwillingness to maintain a women's right to choose. I would like to talk about the nursing element surrounding abortion with you. Let me know if you would like to discuss theology? If I am granted the opportunity to walk in heaven, I will look for the cells that were destroyed by someone else's descision and explain to them that I was just doing my job, why don't you ask the source. Let God deal with them not you. Do you believe that God will honestly punish you for doing your job? The women come to you with probably the biggest decision of their life, it's her decision and your job to assist your patients with the best available care. Use your education to help the patient with what they think is best for them, and leave your bible in your locker. God Bless America and the right to choose.

Would you assist in abortions?
I think the thing that we are all forgetting here is that as nurses we have a job to do. When we get to work we leave our prejudices at the door. Just like a drug seeker in the ER, who are we to tell them no you cant have this pain med go home. Are we to tell a woman no you cant have an abortion so go home. Then maybe later we can see her on the news for beating or maybe even killing her child, We have no right to judge people we are nurses we take care of those that are sick, it is our job to educate, so that women do not find themselves in the same position. I know that it is not right but for some people it is the only way that they have out of who knows what kind of situation, and you know what not everyone thinks before they act. That is why we have freedom to make the decisions we make. Whos to say that you wont see the baby in heaven that was raped and killed because no one wanted it around. That baby just might ask why you didnt help them when you could.

What not to say / do while you are in the ER...
Talk about wanting to just tell someone to get the hell out. People forget that they will soon be old like that to and hopefully they will not get sick all the time. I love the ED so much but I really hate some people. I understand that people mare nervous and dont know what the hell is going on, but come on. I remember that I had this 11/f c/o n/v and I felt bad because she was vomiting alot, everone in the world was either having an asthma attack or a heartattack, it was so busy I had no where to put her. Her mother thought that it would be a good idea to sit her right by the entrance doors, thinking that would get her in faster. I had to tell her numerous times to please move your daughter away from the door. Finally after 2 hours and calling me numerous names, I brought them back. Her mother was still cussing me out when I left and went back up to triage. I think it was like 2 weeks later and was working part time teaching a medical assisting program, can you belive that her mother was one of my new students. HAHAHAHA You know the first thing I said was people make sure that you always respect each other, we all know that people dont like to be treated badly when they are doing thier job:chuckle This is the kind of thing that happens when you live in a small town

Sorry about the caps I talk loud anyways. We kinda had no choice she ran into the bathroom and locked the door before we could help it. Believe me there was no stopping this big woman if we could help oit anyways. She was alot bigger than some of the guys we had working. HAHAHAHA:rotfl:
