  1. Make sure to get all you can from fafsa first (www.fafsa.gov), but then sign up for fastweb, it matches you with scholarships. Hope this helps!
  2. I worked while doing my nursing degree, and I would suggest that before taking out private student loans for living expenses, unless you know you will get a large sign on bonus from the hospital you plan to work for... but I would still just try to work through college. Good luck!
  3. I would avoid private student loans if you can, plus if you do not have a great credit score, or little credit history you will not be able to get a loan without a cosigner read here: Private Student Loan Without Cosigner I would apply for FASFA and see what you can get, also check out diff nursing scholarships. I used this when getting some of my nursing scholarships 25 Nursing Scholarships for College also finaid.org is a good resource to learn. good luck!
  4. I am currently in CRNA school, and no one in my class has an online BSN. Im not certain, but I would think that the BSN would have more to do with the college/university it came from (i.e. are you taking online courses at a well known and accredited college or university?)
  5. I am in CRNA school right now, and you are going to want to check out GradPlus loans first. These are credit based loans, but they are federal loans, which are better then any private student loans. The GradPlus loan has been more then enough for me, but I had to do a ton of research as well when learning about paying for CRNA school, so I feel your pain (haha). The advisor as my school, said to go with anything federal, and not anything private if you can. Also look at sites like finaid.org, or heres some good info on private student loans without a cosigner. Good luck!
  6. I would google your state and nursing scholarships, something should come up, otherwise here is a pretty good list of nursing scholarships for college. Good luck!
  7. Stick with it, and as someone who has worked in a L1 TRUMA ICU for 5 years before starting CRNA school, I can tell you it is MUCH diff. than bedside nursing. Like anything you have to find your nitch, and even going the med school route, you'll be stuck doing years of rotations in areas you may not enjoy as well... the road to becoming an advanced practice nurse (or an MD) is no easy task, you have to work your way through areas/experiences you may not enjoy, which is why advanced practice nursing is not for everyone. I would get your BSN, and then try TRAUMA nursing, if you like that, get your CCRN, and go from there. Good luck!
  8. I just had to comment because I thought this was cute.... such an obvious question, but no one ever really thinks about it (at least it has not come up in my class....yet)!
  9. I consolidated my nursing loans after I graduated. If your hosp. doesn't qualify for the forgiveness, consolidation can help with the payments of your nursing student loans. I'll try to link some sites I used, but Im pretty new to this whole "forum" thing, ha! I used http://finaid.org/ and http://studentloansforcollege.org/ to find the consolidation loans. Good luck!
  10. No way, your friend was misinformed. CRNA is a masters level program. I am not even aware of anything you can get a Masters degree in, in one year, let alone something as technical and specialized as CRNA. Hope this helps!
  11. I think it depends, for some units yes, such as Trauma units. Some floor units, it is not as critical.
  12. I sure did, and it was the best thing I ever did. I feel waaay ahead of my current classmates who have not taken it yet. The trauma life center I used to work for before I started CRNA school, is moving to make it a req for all TLC nurses, and I think it's a great idea.
  13. I am currently in my first year of CRNA school. I have some money saved, but I am also utilizing FAFSA and Grad PLUS loans. Between those, I have enough for school and to live on... (i don't work, obviously) I was freaking out about having enough money to cover my expenses before I started school, but I can tell you not to worry because you WILL get enough money in student loans if you need it. I found a bunch of info on crna student loans and other advance practicing student loans, including the Grad Plus loan at http://studentloansforcollege.org/ (i tried to link them above, but am new to these forums, so not sure if it work). Anyway, good luck, and do not worry, getting loans is not as hard as I thought it would be!
