  1. to the OP, are you applying out of a BSN program or ASN?
  2. Is anyone here in their program? i have heard that you are garenteed a job with FH if you graduate from their school & they will pay for you to complete your BSN. Anybody know anything about their program?
  3. its not THAT bad. My advice, re-write your notes as soon as you get home, it stick better that way. The thing i love about nursing school is that its mostly common sense. review, review , review. Get CONCEPTS down. learn nursing care and inventions. NOBODY cares if you know how a virus replicated in the body, in nursing care they only care about WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR YOUR PATIENT.
  4. study what you would do as a nurse. Study assesesing for certin conditions, interventions, and most importantly your paitient teaching! thats really all nursing tests are. In nursing school they dont care if you know the nitty gritty of a disease, what they want to know is WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? example, Your looking at your paitients urinary bag hangin off the side of his bed, you notice there is no unrine in there..what are you going to do? call the doctor? NOOOO... you go straight to your nursing processs, ASSES! assess, your paitient, look at the tubing on his catheter! is it all kniked up or tied up? this could be your issue. Learn to think like a nurse...same idea if your patients moniter is reading a pulse ox of 0%, dont run and call the doctor... ASSES! is the thing even on his finger!? hope this helps you some. Sorry for all the mispelled words =O)
  5. You can prob print out your syllabus on blackbaord
  6. you can wear whatever you want the first day. You only wear your blue polo an beige pants on lab days :]
  7. im currently in the nursing program. ENJOY your free time while you have it lol
  8. im so excited for you guys ! i remember my first day. TRUST me , the first week is going to be a whirlwind and your going to feel like quiting. DONT ! it gets better, YOU can do it :]
  9. Ultimately it is her choice. I'd just hate to see her end up like ALOT of LPN's out there who got back to school when their in the 30's and say "i wish i had gone straight for my rn". I'm not saying LPN school is a waste of time, i just dont see the point unless like someone eles said early, there is a specific reason. She can Probably easily get a job paying what an LPN makes anywhere. I just dont see the point in sticking your toes in the water when your going to dive in anyway.
  10. Honestly i would shoot stright for your RN. I have heard alot of people say that LPN is a dead end job. Alot of LPN's go back to school to become an RN and/or get their BSN. You sound pretty smart, i dont see why you should bothering taking the long route.
  11. you can start reading the chapter on infection prevention and control in potter and perry..i think its 34. that was our first reading. It will most likely be yours too.
  12. honestly, i dont think it is. Nursing is critical thinking and common sense. That comes naturally to me, i was never one of those 3.99999999999999 GPA students who memorize everything on a page from a book and get an A on every test. However, jsut b/c nursing school isnt structured like anything eles, i find myself excelling b/c the tests require you to think. Not cram and memorize. As far as working going, i would say it is possible... IF your job allows you to be able to study while your there. Thats the only reason it has worked for me thus far.
  13. So you think its all some conspiricy ? I just don't understand the rational behind that..
  14. Ok, I have obviously stated my question wrong. Sorry. What I mean is why is that were are talked into believing in this so called nursing shortage yet so many people complain of not being able to find a job ? This is what I don't understand.
  15. im in my 2 month of my first semester, so far, its really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Its alot of reading...but thats about it. Reading and critical thinking. Thank god critcal thinking comes natural to me. I think the problem with most nursing students is that they were 4.0 students in their pre-reqs and mastered the skill of memorization. I was never good at that. I took apart everything and thought outside the box with anything and everything i was presented with. I'm finding much success in nursing simple because i know how to THINK .
  16. AGREE with everyone here...Dosage is just multiplication and division. AND your allowed a calculater (well i am at my school).
  17. So a little backround, i did all my nursing pre-req's and applied for my schools nursing program. Everytime i ever told someone i was going into nursing, the response was always "really? i cant see you as a nurse" or "ew your gonna have to clean poop, why would you wanna do that?"..Well anyway, i went through with it, applied and got accepted. Since my school has a one year waiting list, i took a semester off. Then decided to go back to school and finish up my general AA. I told everyone it was because i wanted to do my BSN when i finished my AS in Nursing and had my RN...Subconciously now that i think about it, i did because i had a gut feeling i should get it out of the way incase nursing didnt work out, atleast i'd be able to transfer into my local university.. FAST FOWARD TO TODAY So i just finished my first week of nursing school. i HATED it. Went through the motions. Information litterly went in ONE ear and right out the next. Maybe im just feeling overwhelmed, or maybe im not supose to be here. But you know that feeling you get when yout NOT supose to be doing something. I have the feeling. I really feel like i dont wanna continue. Like god is purposly clouding up my head when i go to school becuz im NOT supose to be there , and really, its making me deppressed. i was fine before school started, now i wanna cry all the time:[ Has anyone eles felt this?? i really feel like im NOT supose to be here. And that why i went ahead and finished my general AA...because i KNEW i would need it....now that i think about it, i chose nursing because its what my father wanted to to do...i dont think its what i want to do ..throughout my one year wait i was constently on my local universitys website looking through OTHER degree programs ...idk what to do:crying2:
  18. Orlando! Floridas own little LosAngelas :]
  19. Hey everyone, Im about to start my nursing program in about 2 weeks. Im scared as hell right now. im sitting in my bedroom just doubting my choice right now. i keep asking myself, is this right for me? am i making the right choice. i opnened a couple of my text books up to start reading and it all looks so foriegn and uninteresting. Dont get me wrong, Im FASINATED with the human body and medicine. i dont know, maybe its just nerves, or maybe this isnt for me. I'v come so far to get to this point. Im really feeling discouraged right now. Everyone i've talked to has said nursing school is SO hard and will comsume your life. I plan to obtain my RN and then transfer into a local universty to complete my BSN...Did any of you feel this way at any point? or anywords of advice would help me alot right now,i mean im SOO excited to start, but what if im making the wrong choice?
  20. why do people complain so much about not being able to find a job after graduating? there are SOOO many jobs listed by fl hospital and orlando health! a friend of mine just got hired with orlando health, she graduated from SCC this past year.
  21. yes you need to have all your pre-req's done. As long as you have a 2.0 gpa and meet the TEAS score requirment your in ! the wait is about a year. well for me it was. I applied march2010..and i was accepted for the summer 2011.
  22. your very welcome. please keep in mind that things DO change semester to semester. but overall its mostly the same...like the shots and the backround tests. CPR certification needs to renewed yearly. DO NOT start your backround check, your term will get a different code from what is mentioned in the packet. But cost wise, im sure it will be the same. So you guys can kinda get an idea how much your going to need come your time :] ahhhhhhhhhhh i start in less than a month, getting excited now
  23. hey everyone, i fowarded the orientation email packet out to everyone who has requested it, about 4 or 5 of you. if i missed you please let me know and il foward it out to you as well :]
  24. hey i just emailed you the orientation packet to your AOL email listed =]
  25. i start at vcc in one month. i just had my nursing orientation this past fri!!! getting excited =]
