  1. Hi, I have a little nephew with a cast in his arm. It is itching him a lot and I know we should not place baby powder, lotion, liquid, or any instrument inside the cast to help him scratch. I have used the hair dryer in the cold setting and I have put a cloth of cotton on the edge of the cast, but nothing helps. Do you have any good suggestions? I appreciate your prompt advice.
  2. Thank you very much for sharing your experience and advice with me. I will take your tips into account and I will try different positions. Hopefully soon, I can write again with good news about my job search. I really appreciate you taking your time to answer my posting. I wish you the best in your nursing career.
  3. Hi everyone, I am having a hard time finding my first RN job and I want to ask you for advice. I became an RN last September 2013. My strengths to find my first RN job are: I have an Associate in Arts, an Associate's in Nursing, a 3.4 GPA, an RN license, and a current BLS certification. I am soon to start the BSN program at UCF; I have 4+ years of working in customer service, and I also speak Spanish. However, even though I have so many strengths I also have the greatest disadvantage of all: I have no experience working in health care (besides completing my practicum in Mother Baby). I really want to find a job in the OB area but it is very hard to see those positions posted in the internet, and the worst part is that when I finally find one posted, I come across "1+ years of experience required". I have tried to give my resume in person to the human resources department in a couple of hospitals. In one they accepted it but never called me, and in the other hospital, they didn't even let me hand it in. They told me to apply online. So, it is almost impossible! How can I apply if they never announce those positions?, how can I get the experience when they are not willing to train a GN? In addition, the manager where I did my practicum gave me her business card and told me to "come and see her"after I was licensed because in her hospital they "like to hire students who have completed their practicum at the facility". Unfortunately, I sent this manager a couple of emails (one with my resume & cover letter) and I also left her a voicemail with my phone number. I never received her phone call. I have thought that it might be because she has a lot of emails to process and that maybe she never even came across either one of my messages... Because of that, I have thought about going to see her in person, but hospitals are not like retail stores, where they just let you go upstairs to pay a visit to the manager. I also applied to the FL Hospital GN program, in different areas (Med Tele, Med Surge, Cardiac PCU, OR, etc), since they didn't posted any OB positions, without any luck. I even included that I was available nights, and weekends. I haven't gotten past the human resources screening... I have not even had one interview so far. What can I do to meet someone? It seems that you really need to know someone in order to get a job in the Orlando area.... and not to sound desperate, but I have even applied to LPN, and advance tech positions without any luck because I am overqualified for those positions too lol. I have also looked for positions in Tampa but it seems it is as hard as finding a job in Orlando. I appreciate any advice... I really need to find a job (preferably in OB) or anywhere where I can get useful experience, but not having any contacts in health care is really taking a toll on my chances of finding my first RN job. Thanks!
  4. By the way, thank you all for the feedback. I was able to get a B in nursing 1 and I am doing much better in nursing 2. I will be puti ng in practice the advice.
  5. Thanks! I purchased the book "Fundamentals of Success"
  6. Thank you both for your answers. I definitely have a problem with test taking. I discussed my questions with the teacher and listened to her rationales. I am going to check to see if I can find some help to learn how to answer those questions.
  7. Thank you all for your answers! It's awesome to see that there are people who care about helping me succeed. On my first test, I got an 80, then I improved a little and got an 87. Now, I am back to the 80. I felt so sad because this time I used all my Spring break to prepare for the test and hoped to get an A; but the opposite happened and my grade dropped a little more. Now I have a C in the course, and getting a B in Nursing I is going to be very hard. I haven't done any better than that 87, so getting an 89 on the last test and an 89 in the final seems almost imposible to me. What frustrates me the most is that I had straight A's in all my previous courses at my college (about 14 classes). I was an A student and now I am barely passing (C= 77). I am really scared about the final because it's going to be like the Hesi Case Studies in Evolve and I only get 70's on those, even when I have been allowed to use my book to answer and with unlimited time. I don't know what is wrong with me. I record and listen to the lectures over and over. I highlight the book. I write notes on my classess. I read the key concepts, vocabulary, and all boxes in the book. I take test questions of the Fundamentals of Success book and read the rationals. One of the bad habits I have, is getting the right answer and changing it for the wrong one. I changed like 5 of those on last test and every time I tell myself I am not going to do it again, but when the test comes, I feel like my answeres might be wrong and change them. It's so frustrating
  8. I registered my book in Evolve, and I'll be trying to practice as much as I can. Thanks for the advice :)
  9. That's exactly how I feel. I know it's imposible to read all of it, and reading the first 2 & last lines of every paragraph seems too little. I've done this, but I miss a lot of info like you said. I guess I just have to keep trying to see if I can come with a better method for my readings.
  10. Good luck to you too escapebigd. I hope you can accomplish your dreams.
  11. Thank you so much for taking your time to give me advice :)
  12. thank you both for your responses =). i am so glad, i can tell other nursing students what i am feeling since i get perspective and i realize i'm not the only one struggling, and because it helps me to reflect in my own feelings and needs. it really helped me to vent out yesterday, since it helped me to see that it might help me to make my own power points. so, here i am doing something about it, and hoping it will help me on time for my first test. thank you mattrnstudent23 for letting me know about your personal struggles and success through this difficult journey!
  13. Hi, I started nursing school this month and I have information overload. I don't know how to focus for my first test (next Monday). I go through the objectives, key concepts, charts and recordings as much as I can; but it is impossible to go over the entire 15 chapters and everything else I have to do for lab. It feels as if I might be missing important information because I can't read the whole thing. I'm also a visual learner and I usually study with power points but we are only getting the outlines and this is really affecting me. Regarding practice, I've been taking some fundamentals of Nursing questions, but I get discourage when I see I am failing lots of them. I guess I am not used to think this way. Those questions are so tricky! I am fairly a good student and I've never felt this way before. I'm most of the time ahead of the game and now I am feeling that I'm lagging behind. Any advise is greatly appreciated it :)
  14. Congrats Samnik! :)
  15. Just send your request :)
