  1. I know what you mean, I needed to update my PPD for school and I contacted my dr's office the person who answered the phone (probably an MA) told me I could come in later because she was not a "regular nurse" and that the "regular nurse " would be there later. I got off the phone like what the ? I lost a little faith in my dr's office that day.
  2. It happens all the time I hate seeing the sadness in other students faces as they walk out of the exam knowing they failed the course but then the next semester their on there way again with last semester behind them and ready to succeed while gaining a lot more from the second time around-- also my ADN program just joined with a university doing a concurrent BSN meaning you will be able to start working sooner and you would shortly after have your BSN! Good luck to you!
  3. I'm a student nurse right now who doesn't smoke but used to years ago, when I was a patient in the ER with chest pains which of course included breathing problems my nurse disappeared for awhile then came in wreaking of cigarette smoke it was not only making it harder for me to breath normally but I was so disgusted by the smell I became instantly nauseous with a headache and so did my husband. Obviously it still bothers me that she could be so thoughtless of not only me but her other patients since of course by being in the ER were also acutely ill or worse. Of any place to become smoke free I would think hospitals should have been the first to make that decision. Living in Florida most restaurants are already smoke free along with the hospitals, smart move on their part.:up::up:
  4. I gotta say also that if nursing school required doing anything invasive to one another especially IVs I'd be out!!!!!
  5. I kind of understand practicing bed baths in lab to get an idea for those who haven't a clue, as long as it's over clothes and no touching. We are supposed to be in a professional environment and if you are exposed in any way that changes the comfort zone. When I was in that learning phase we did do physical assessments in sports bras and sweat pants and alot of people objected but got over it. You could tell we all felt uncomfortable though. Inexperience isn't the issue it's that we are all peers and patients in a hospital expect to be examined and to have professionals (including professional students) touching them, and if they don't want a student they don't have too!
  6. You can apply to UCF's nursing program with an AA as long as you also have the prereqs. they require. I know that a general AA does not have everything you may need unless you happened to pick the ones they want. I have a friend that has a bachelors and she still needs to do a few more classes to meet requirements, I almost have an AA + an AS in nursing and I still need 6 more classes to transfer there for my bachelors. I don't have the website or phone number off hand but when I need to reference it I look it up through googling ucf nursing which leads you to a direct site instead of going through the UCF website. Hope this helps.
  7. no couldn't do it, to much responsibility for too little pay
  8. congrats, can't wait to be where you are!! just 10 more months!!
  9. Getting through 2 years of school sounds easy but then when it's just the program itself and not the prereqs. that takes about 2 years it's still not so bad, but then when you put nursing in front of school it might be another story.....
  10. During my first semester I really thought that I did not want to go any further, I was really frustrated and not used to being so committed to something that it overwhelmed me at first, but then when I actually got to go to clinical it all started coming together and that's when I realized I really wanted to do this. I really like going to clinical the most and this semester is about everything I really wanted to specialize in (OB, peds not sure what one yet) I really enjoy the lectures now too!
  11. Definitely legit, just incorporates the practices of seven day adventists, they do not push their religion same as they do not at florida hospital which is an adventist run hospital. I know this because I live around a good majority of their hospitals and I have done clinical there also. I heard from students there that the campus closes at certain times of the day for prayer/church/mass what ever it is considered.
  12. more $$$ then community college, more prereqs. also (religion classes, its a seven day adventist school) knew someone who went there and had to transfer to community cause they shut down at certain times due to their religious practices and it was driving them nuts(so i was told). that's about all that i know or heard of. you have a better chance of getting a job at florida though.
