  1. Where I work they are very flexible with the cna's schedules that are going to school. People who are going to school full time usually only work per diem & during the week. Others only work 24hrs or 32 hrs & of course have class on their day off or school before or after their shift. I haven't heard of people changing their hrs but people always pickup or stay late. Just talk with your employer they should be understanding bc its for school esp if your looking to go to nursing school.
  2. I passed my MA CNA exam today!! :heartbeat My skills were denture care and positioning pt/resident on the right side. I guess I kind of lucked out. I got really nervous & fumbled a little but I corrected myself and kept it together!! Now I can't wait to start working. I am so proud of myself & congrats to all of you as well.
  3. I've been wondering the same thing. I am currently getting ready to pass my cna state exam, taking the pre-reqs at BCC & looking to transfer to UMASSD for the same program.
  4. I just finished the clinical portion for my class; so the yuckiest things I had to do was to clean & change my first brief where the bm was large & mushy. My resident started crying so it over shadowed the yuckiness of it. Also the lingering smell of urine after emptying a leg-bag, mixed with the passing of some smelly poop! The worst was seeing a resident hack-up brown, mushy runny sputum after eating lunch. I had to turn away for that one. I guess the best is yet to come......
  5. Congratulations, best of luck!!
  6. I started an AP class but didn't finish it (long story) I took one practical and I found it easy to remember everything by the diagrams, labeling & coloring in what I needed to know. Make an honest effort to find time to study every day as it comes closer to the date of your exam you'll know for sure what you do know, & what you need to focus more on. Print extra copies of the blank diagrams to practice with. Good luck.
  7. My current aspirations are to:pass my CNA class, gain the most knowledge & perfect my skills. pass the MA's State exam, get a job in a ltc, & be the best cna I can be!! complete the list of pre-reqs at my local community college score well on my entrance exams & apply to the four schools I have all ready chosen, cross my fingers, & hope I get in.
  8. Practice & confidence seems to be the key with a lot of things. Thanks so much for your encouragement, & great advice!! I am actually more excited than nerves now!! :heartbeat
  9. yes, she may have been a bad example. lol I will make it an extra effort to practice the skills daily. My bf & my mother have all ready volunteered to be my pt/residents. One of my classmates & I have all ready agreed to stick together & be partners. It is possible I am just over thinking it & getting way ahead of myself. Thanks for your response & advice!!
  10. I think I would hate wearing one of those. Although they do look really cute in movies, like Pearl Harbor for example. lol
  11. I am four weeks in to my CNA class and I am really enjoying it!:redbeathe We are up to the point where we are beginning to learn the "major skills". The truth is I am getting really nervous. My worst fear is to go for the MA state test & fail. I really don't want to have to go through it more than once. I know someone who failed multiple times and finally passed, got a job in a LTC only to quit soon after b/c they made her work on xmas. Obviously she wasn't very serious about it. But I can't help to feel a little nervous when we go over the skills. I don't want to be a complete mess when we go to our clinicals, never mind the state test. My ultimate goal is to go to nursing school and become a RN. I can't help but think if I'm nerves now, how will I ever make it through nursing school? I'm assuming everyone gets nervous?? What did you do to calm your nervous so they do not hinder u? All I can think of is practice. How often did you practice? Daily? Plus get good sleep, keep a positive attitude, & avoid caffeine? Anything else?? How did you deal with the pressure of people watching you?
  12. Congratulations!! & good luck!
  13. I have 2 small tattoos, 3 stars on my left foot & a butterfly on my right shoulder blade. I wanted to get one more small one along my wrist. But I am not sure if I ever will because I don't know how that will go over going in to a career in nursing. I am currently still in my cna class....& someday hope to be an RN.
  14. I have just started taking my cna class, so I can't answer any of your questions. But I wanted to comment because, your story really saddened me as well. All of these issues are things my teacher has gone over, of what not to do!! To you and me it seems like common sense, but I guess to some it's not. I think this happens no matter what kind of job you work, personally I think it's rather ignorant to do that when it involves someone's personal needs. All I can think of is why all these things are wrong & where they fall under discussions in class. Hearing stories like this only makes me want to be the best cna I can be! :redbeathe:heartbeatI don't know how often this happens, but I would keep my mouth shut at work & try to make a confidential report. But also I wouldn't want you to get "bullied" for doing what's right, if someone suspected something. And possibly search for a new job in a facility with better reputation.
  15. I have just started my cna class, but in our syllabus & textbook it says we are allowed to give enemas & will be trained to. I'm assuming under the supervision of a nurse, but I live in Mass so that might make a difference. Plus adding cna would just be added education and training, giving you more job options.
