See Exam Advice
The SEE is a self evaluation exam. Some of us had (or have) to take it, some not. We had to take it during our first clinical year, and during our second. None of us really studied, and were encouraged not to. That way you would know how well your are understanding and internalizing info at that point in the program. You have to get >50th %ile? Thats crazy! At valley they showed us a study and graphic plot of SEE scores vs. board scores for the same people and there was NO CORRELATION WHATSOEVER! Don't sweat it too much, unless you have to get a certain score . I would just go in cold, maybe review a few key things your unsure about, but don't spend too much time on it, you don't have time to study.

Gonzaga interview advice?
I know the person who posted about that interview last year, and it sounds like it was brutal, but the person got in. I seem to remember something in the post about the chief anesthesiologist questioning why nurses belong in anesthesia, and then him explaining that anesthesia is a practice of medicine not nursing. Being from that area of the country, I know a lot of people that have graduated from that Sacred Heart, and have heard a lot of positive things about it. As for dress, last Jan. was my first interview in another state, and I too debated as to whether or not to wear a suit (I had not even so much as worn a tie in 15 years.) I decided on no suit, just nice shirt, tie, slacks. Turns out I was the only one there without a suit on, but I got in anyway. I would have some serious misgivings about a program that considers your attire as one of their top criteria.

anesth. techs
Not sure what your ultimate career goal is, but if you a currently working toward your BSN, I don't think it would be worth your time to go to school for anesthesia technology. Its been several years since I took the cert. exam, but with some basic university science couses and a lot of studying from study guides that ASATT can help you with, I was able to pass the exam easily. It did not make any difference in my job in the long run, but my goal was to eventually get to anesthesia school anyway, and I think that helped. I didn't make very good money as a tech, and the money and experience I got in ICU nursing was much better. Good luck

anesth. techs
Check out asatt.org sometime. They are the certifying body for anes. technicians and technologists. I was a tech during nsg. school and ended up getting my certification. The experience definitely made up my mind for a career in Nurse Anesthesia. I think it helped in my interview for school as well....Darin

CCRN prep
Most of the prep that my girlfriend and I used involved stuff from Laura Gasparis. We attended and 3 day prep course by Robin Dennison that helped some, but we thought Ms. Gasparis' audio tapes and study manuals helped the most. She is very knowledgable and even fun to listen too. You wont fall asleep listening to her audio tapes. Take lots of quizzes on all of the subjects, and think about what you've learned when your taking care of your patients. You should do well. Good luck.

Gonzaga said yes!!!
Way to go Cheryl!!! I finally found you on this board. I knew you would do great. That really sucks that they gave you such a hard time in the interview, but I've heard that Gonzaga is like that, and has been for years. Anyway, all of the CRNAs I've worked with in the past that graduated from that program, have had great things to say about it. As I'm sure you're aware quite a few RNs from our units have been accepted there, and as far as I know, don't regret accepting. Plus, your so close to home! I really wanted to apply there myself, but missed the deadline :imbar Anyway, if they give you such a hard time, (and from your other post it sounded like you handled yourself very well) just think how well you'll be prepared for any other interviews. Again, congrats, (what will our units ever do without us?) :chuckle Hope to talk to you soon about how everything is going in the planning stages.......................Darin

Accepted to Bryan LGH/KU
Thanks for the info, K. I suppose I can live anywhere for 6 mos. to get it done. Everyone seemed really nice at the interview, and Lincoln seemed like a nice place too. I'm totally stoked to finally be moving on with my dream. A couple of nurses I've worked with that have gone on to other programs have become disappointed with their programs. Everyone I've talked to that is in or has graduated from Bryan says its great!

Accepted to Bryan LGH/KU
Hello, First time visiting this site, and I like what I see. There seems to be a lot of good info/advice from you all. Anyway, I was just accepted to Bryan LGH/KU to start this June, and was wondering if anyone else out there will be starting this summer, or has recently graduated from the program. So far, I really like what I've seen and heard. I'm especialy curious about housing options and student life in KC during the first 6 months. I currently live in Idaho, and feel like I'm in for quite a culture shock. Some have told me that KUMC is kind of in "the 'hood", and that makes my girlfriend a bit uneasy. So, would love to hear any opinions and/or advice on what to expect.
