Would you mind sharing what your score was? I know that the website says 70%, but I was told otherwise and just want to make sure that I get in.

Oh wow. This is a really late reply, but I challenged the test and got my test date scheduled through prometric.com. All of the information for cna testing is listed on that site. I passed by the way and start my new job next week at a rehab facility in Brandon area.

Asknfortrbl- you said you applied last time. Was that for the spring term, if so, what was your GPA and also did you have to submit another app fee? I'm asking bcuz I'm afraid I won't be getting in this term, so I'm preparing to apply for the spring.

I'm not shocked at that. Sadly, this is the school we all are praying to get into too. I really hope the nursing program will be a little more organized. I have heard otherwise, however, this is the only affordable school nearby me. I don't have many other options. It will be ok...right? :)

I included a self-addressed stamped envelope and received it back in about a week and a half. I don't know anything about B+, A- etc. I've never heard of that.

Fairy007- This is your 3rd time applying to HCC? Did u apply continuosly bcuz I can't understand why u didn't get in for the spring since the cutoff was 3.23.

I have also taken a free CPR/first aid course and I included a copy too but realized it's only for transitional students. It didn't hurt anything to include it though. They received all of my documents and didn't complain about anything so it's all good. Has anyone ever taken trigonometry or calculus? If so, which do you think is more challenging?

Maybe you guys are right. I just included more than I needed to. I thought I saw it listed, but it's possible I read it wrong and it's only for transitional. I will look again later and let you know. If you want to be sure tho, maybe email someone in nursing department.

Does anyone know a higher math than college algebra that is fairly easy to catch on and doesn't really require memorizing from previous math courses? College algebra is hard to me by the way because I forgot a lot.

When you go onto the HCC nursing website, there is an application. Print all of that out and the first page has a checklist of everything you must turn in. It should tell you on there as well who to make checks payable to. I believe I made mine out to Hillsborough community college. But, just double check on there. What campus did you speak to an advisor at? I noticed all of the advisors are not too aware of a lot of things about the school that they work for which sucks because you wait in long lines to speak with them and most of the time leave feeling frustrated and more annoyed and confused. I noticed HCC brandon knows absolutely nothing about the nursing program since nursing isn't actually offered at that campus. Southshore is a little more knowledgeable. Dale Mabry, I'm not sure cuz it's a little further away from me but I imagine they should know the most since they are the main campus for nursing. As far as transcripts, you will need all transcripts from any other college that you have attended. If you have only attended HCC, then there's no need cuz they have all of your information. Plus, when you were admitted to HCC, you had to submit your HIgh school diploma and any other transcripts at that time and if you haven't attended anywhere else since then, then you shouldn't have to do anything else. MF is pretty good at responding to emails. There was a couple of times it took her quite a while but I think that was because she was out of the office for a few days. I'm sure at this time with all the applicants trying to hurry to beat the deadline, that they are bombarded with questions and emails so it might take longer than usual. Sometimes, coming on here, you can find answers to questions you have and get a response much quicker than emailing HCC. But, of course, we just deliver information from our experiences. The final say to anything is from HCC. They can change anything at any time.

I can imagine the TEAS would be hard. I bought the book to study from. I paid like 30 bucks for it but heard it's what is used to get the TEAS questions from. I haven't studied it, just looked through it. I spoke to MF at HCC and YM. I'm not sure we are supposed to list names here, so I only put initials. It may take them awhile to get back to you now since I'm sure they are swamped after the holiday break. I asked them questions before the break started and I received responses the same day by YM and usually next day by MF. Does anyone know if there is an application fee for the nursing program at ST Pete college? I faxed my application before the break, but it didn't say to submit payment.

3.5 is in..no worries! Those advisors at HCC are not who you should be talking to if you are looking for words of encouragement. In fact, every time after I have left a meeting with an advisor, I feel the complete opposite. They also told me I have slim chance unless I get all A's and maybe one B. I know this is untrue. Also, I've emailed some people in the nursing department, and they were way more encouraging with me even with a 3.2. They told me not to give up because they will accept applicants up til the first day of class if they needed to. Situations change and people change their minds at the last minute for whatever reason. But, I can tell you that if you have a 3.5, I'm pretty confident you are in unless something didn't go right with paperwork or there was a miscalculation. That's a great GPA and transition program is way less competitive I heard.

Hey everyone! I understand how some of you feel in regards to GPA and being accepted. I don't feel too good about my GPA either. HCC is my first choice because of location and cost, other than that, I know there are other options. I know some of you may not feel too much hope about getting in but just know that if you really want to become a nurse, you will get there no matter what road you end up taking. It's really hard for me to imagine crossing that bridge every day and early in the morning and during traffic hour at that to get to GAlen or St pete college, but I keep on telling myself that if I needed to do that temporarily to get to where I want to be then it's ok. It's a sacrifice that is only temporary, and the result will be all worth it. I know my chances of getting in for the Fall will not be as great as the spring, so I already thought about back up plans just in case. Keep the faith everyone, but also have a backup plan just in case it doesn't work out this time..it will eventually. If you really want it, you CAN make it happen. It may be a little bit of a tougher road, but we all WILL get there as long as we DON'T give up trying. If you really want it, pray about it, and it will happen. Even if it isn't the way you expected (through HCC). At the end of the journey, we will all become RN's and it's not really important how we got there, but that we got there.. :)

You read it on my previous post or on their website? Did you take algebra twice or drop it twice? I dropped it twice and the third time I got an A. But, they deduct 0.2 points if you drop it twice.

Hi nurseH, Go to this website http://www.hccfl.edu/depts/healthsci/nursing/files/53EBCBE4DD5A4982B022F506AA016F36.pdf and print out the nursing application. It will have a checklist of everything you will need to gather and send off. You will need to include a 53.00 check for the application fee, transcripts from all schools you have attended (needs to be sealed, otherwise not accepted), HCC admissions fee unless you were already student there, copy of photo ID etc..it will list it for u. What I did was included a self adressed stamped envelope so they could return to me for confirmation once they received everything. Which they already did and sent back to me. 3.33 is higher than me, so you definitely have a better chance than me. However, I heard the majority of applicants will apply in the fall because typically people start their pre Reqs at the beginning of the year and complete them by the end of the year so it might be more competitive during the fall. I have read that the lowest GPA that has been accepted has been a 3.2 and that was for the spring semester. For the fall, I believe it's usually around 3.4 and up because there are more people applying so more chances of higher gpa's and they go by highest gpa's will get chosen. I already know like 5 people with 4.0's or really close to that applying also for the fall. But, hey just go for it and pray about! That's what I'm doing. I also applied elsewhere just in case. It's a competitive program with limited seats, but there is also hope. So, hope for the best! Good luck 2 you!

I agree. I would just apply anyway to increase your chances and options especially because all of these programs are very competitive and each school applies different pre reqs to their programs. St. Pete college doesn't use sociology as their pre req for nursing I don't think. Also, it looks like there's no application fee either because I applied and it didn't say to include a check or anything. I faxed my application and I'm not sure if there's anything else I have to do but their deadline is later than HCC so I figured if they needed anything else that they would let me know right?

Hi Love78, I'm also concerned because I have one C in sociology from years ago. I don't know what's up with that. I thought sociology is supposed to be an easy class...way easier than anatomy and physiology and microbiology. I got better grades in those classes than I did in sociology! Lol! But, I guess you are right about being focused. I wasn't very focused when I was younger either. Just pray about getting in. Expect the worst and hope for the best :). That's what I will do because there isn't much else we can do about it now. The fall I hear is more competitive than the spring. I also applied at St. Pete college. If I don't get in to either, I'll just work as a CNA and apply again in the spring. In regards to hearing whether we are accepted, I was told by"MF" that the nursing committee will meet and we will find out some time in April. Good luck to you!

Thanks SLA, I will check that out. Babynurse- thanks 4 responses. It all definitely makes sense and I will keep everything in mind. I'm assuming you want to work in neonatal or maternity ward? That's my first choice and first reasons why I wanted to become a nurse, but, I'd be happy with whatever I could get to start off. Hope you get the position you want.

Babynurse- everyone says the same thing in regards to the intensity and time required. Is the work hard and textbook and teaches hard to understand or was it the amount of time and workload that was required the most difficult? I have two small kids both 4 years old and my husband has two jobs and is gone all the time so finding time to study was often an issue as I was always drained by the end of the night after a full day with them. I always tried to study at night when I was mentally and physically fried, however, I managed to maintain mostly A's and a couple B's but it was tough even with the pre req's alone. After getting into the groove of nursing school, is it pretty predictable as to what can be expected each week or does it constantly change through each semester? When you say it was unorganized, what do you mean and did that affect your learning? I know you mentioned you had a 3.23 going in, but what kind of grades did you get while in the program? I just heard that they have a high percentage of those that don't make it past the first semester and that a certain grade is required in order to stay in the program..so getting in doesn't mean staying in. Sorry for all of the questions, but I just Want to prepare and know what to expect so that if and when I get in, I won't be as overwhelmed. Thanks for taking the time! :):)
