Remington really does take into account the whole package more so than a lot of other schools do. I was accepted to the Jan 2011 class and unfortunately wasn't able to attend due to some personal reasons, and I had my application moved to the July 2011 start. My GPA isn't the best for my undergrad degree. It was a 3.1 and my prereq GPA was only a 3.0. My TEAS score was a 89%, but as long as you have good recommendation letters and are strong in a few areas, I think they really do look at the person as a whole. Some people are not good test takers and some people may have been young and less focused when they completed their originally undergrad. I think they take these things into account. I don't think you should feel like you need a 4.0 GPA and need to score in the 90's on the TEAS to be accepted. Make sure you get good rec letters and are prepared for the phone interview and I think you will be fine! :)

All private schools are expensive, but it might be a good option for some people who did not get into UCF and do not want to wait until the next application cycle to start. Just putting it out there.

It is a hybrid second degree BSN program. It is schedule to start in July 2011 if they are able to get enough qualified students. The program is set up to have the theory courses online and of course you have to do clinicals with each course. The school is in Jacksonville and you have to travel there I believe 4 times throughout the 13 months it takes to complete the program. Once for orientation, and then twice in semester 1 for 5 days each, and a 5 day period at the end before you graduate and take the NCLEX. They do a lab at the end of session A and session B that you have to attend to learn skills in the first semester. The clinical sites are set up mostly in Orlando, Ocala, and Tampa. I believe there are some in other areas, but that is where the majority are. There are some prereqs that have to be met, but there is still some time to pick up a couple if need be. They are still accepting applications until mid May for the July 2011 start, so if you are worried about TEAS scores and GPA and such, this may be an option as they only require a 3.0 GPA and no TEAS score. Just thought I would let everyone know as we are all trying our hardest to get our nursing degrees finished!

I recently found an article online that was introducing a hybrid second degree BSN program at Chamberlain college of nursing in Jacksonville. I know there has been a lot of discussion on here about second degree BSN programs, and I wanted to let others know about the new program. It is scheduled to start July 2011 if they are able to get a large enough group of students. The program is hybrid meaning the lecture classes are online, and there are a few on campus residency/lab trips throughout the program. They have clinical sites mostly in the Tampa, Orlando, and Ocala areas, but there may be more in other areas. It is a little pricey, but so are all of the private schools that offer nursing programs. There are several prereq classes to start, but I thought I would put the information out there in case there are people looking for a program like this one!

Did anyone get any information on this school? I may be interested as well. Could you forward me any information you have as well? I would really appreciate it!

You should look into EduKan. Go to edukan.org I took my micro and A&P there and even the labs are online. You have to buy the kits to do the labs at home, but if you prefer not to go to campus, these classes are great. The instructors are great as well, and they have flexible start dates. They are also very affordable. They do not change you extra for being out of state. I have not had any issue getting any of these classes transferred. They were accepted by UCF and FL hospital college without any trouble. The transcripts don't even say they were online classes. Hope this helps!

Does anyone know yet what our class schedules are going to be like? Days and times??

I am finding out the same things. The vaccines are going to be very expensive! I am trying to get shot records from Ohio where I grew up for some of them, but I don't know if I will be able to get them or not. As far as the FAFSA I'm not sure. I went ahead and filled mine out some time ago just in case I was accepted, but I guess I did a couple things wrong because the financial aid advisor sent me an email and showed me what to correct. I assume if I can correct things, you should still be able to submit one. Call the financial aid advisor though. He is very very helpful and up front about things! I am just trying to figure out what I am going to do to cover the GAP between what we get from the government and what we owe.

Does anyone know if they are still planning to start in Jan? I called and got scheduled to talk with an enrollment advisor, but not for a few days. Do you know if the program is self paced like their other programs??

Can't wait to meet all of you guys! I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do for financing! That seems to be the hardest part since we only get about half in stafford loans!

It might take a little longer since you are farther. I am right here in Florida only like 45 min from the school, so I would assume mine would get to me sooner than out of state! It was a large white packet. Now I am freaking out about trying to get all the stuff done that I need to like the CPR and get the financial stuff figured out!

My husband checked the mail late last night and I got accepted too!

They told me that they could conditionally accept me, but that the admissions board likes to wait until they have transcripts. But for me that could be after next week. Grades don't post at UCF until next week and then it takes a day or two to send the transcripts, and then mail time. So I have no idea. I am very frustrated that my application is being held up by classes that aren't pre reqs or even anything applicapble to the program. It is just my last 3 classes to finish up my master's degree and 6 of the credits are student teaching. So I have no idea! Are you finishing up pre reqs or are like me, just tying up lose ends??

Nope not here either! I called the school and I know what is holding things up for me. I am currently a graduate student at another school and I graduate next weekend, but because I have some classes in progress, they won't even consider me for acceptance until I get get them a final transcript. So I won't be able to do that until next week sometime I think. Not that I will get in after that, but I guess the admissions committee is still considering my file incomplete. If you call Remington, they are very helpful and will tell you if something is holding things up or whatever. Oh and brooklynborn, I went to Keiser as well, and for some reason they stuck me with some lady named Melissa, and after I took a few hours off work and went all the way over there, she told me that the Jan 2011 class has been filled for a while and that they are only taking alternates or ppl who need gen eds........I was really confused by this because you told me they told you that they had openings?? Its weird that two different people there have two different stories?!?! Not sure why they would tell us different things, but it definetly frustrated me! I wanted to talk with the guy you had, but they basically wouldn't let me! Lets hope we all hear something soon!!

Keiser is an AS degree. I think as far as transferring it to get your BSN, I would suggest calling the college you are intereted in going and confirming it with them. That's what I did. You read so many things on this forum that it's hard to know sometimes what is what, so I just called the school I want to go to after I get my RN and talked with the nursing dept chair and asked all those questions. It is accredited and is approved by the FL board of nursing, so I wouldn't see why you would have any problem, but I would just make a couple phone calls to be sure that you are investing your time and money in the right place!

I sent you the information! I have no idea about the school in P.R. I looked at the website too and couldn't read it because it was in spanish! I can't really relocate anyway, so I didn't worry about it too much! Sorry I can't help with that one!

I agree! If I can get the RN, I don't mind doing an RN to BSN program or something like that since I have to get a year experience in the field before I can do most of the masters programs I am interested in anyway. I am a little concerned with the cost of Keiser, but like you said at this point we really have nothing to lose. Hopefully we may hear something from Remington! I'm shocked that we haven't received a letter either acceptance or rejection at this point since we are getting pretty close to the start of the program! I sent you the other information via PM!

You were so right. I called and talked with Mr. ****** and he was great! No games, just straight forward answers! So much better than the experience I had before! = ) I am not sure if I am going to be able to do Keiser or not, but at least I have some options it feels like! I called a school today to inquire about an LPN program, and I must just have terrible luck because I got a bad rep there as well. This lady refused to tell me anything about the program unless I came there to talk with her! I don't really want to do LPN, but I was just curious how long the program was! I couldn't even get her to answer that! Also, FYI if you don't get into Keiser, there is a school in south FL that has most of the lecture classes online and you go there for clinicals on the weekend and every once and a while for lab. It starts in March and there isn't a waiting list. It takes 18 months though! But it would be better than nothing I suppose. If you are interested I can send you contact info! Hopefully we will both get something figured out!!

Centura is a joke. I just spent over 20 minutes on the phone with someone that would not answer my questions! All they will say is you need to come in and they will tell you everything. Why would I want to take a day off work to go there, when all I asked was 3 simple questions! I asked, how long is the program, is it days or nights, and when the next start date is! They refuse to give me this information, claiming that I have to come in to get any information! This is so ridiculous! I work at a private allied health school and I could never imagine treating a student this way! They should answer my basic questions, and then based on that I can decide if I want to come in for a visit or not! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sometimes I hate private schools and how they treat you like you are dumb!!!

I assume since you applied to Remington as well you are like me and have the gen eds and such and just need the nursing core. What is the schedule like? Days or nights?
