Six people didn't show up to orientation last year. We spent the first hour or two introducing ourselves, and the Professors marked who wasn't there. Once they had the list, someone immediately left the room to call alternates. So keep your chin up!

Last year, I called around and was told the deposit was due by April 1. I don't believe there's a hard and fast deadline, though.

You should call the school of nursing directly to ask, but generally they do not accept any transfer courses. Congrats to everyone who got in! For those who have yet to hear, good luck!

Last summer, there were about eight different clinical rotation groups to chose from. Some had clinical the same day every week, and others had them some weekends and not others. Every group does clinicals at SBUH in the summer. If you're in a special group that contracts to do every rotation for the whole year at stony brook hospital, then you don't ever do clinicals on the weekends. You get to bid on the groups, but there's no guarantee you'll get your first choice.

It's nowhere near that expensive. I'm out of state. Tuition is about $26,000 from start to finish, including health insurance. If you already have a degree, as you will if you are applying to the one year, you get limited government loans. Independent students get $12,000, and dependents get $7000 and their parents can apply for PLUS loans (or, if they apply and get rejected, the student receives an additional $5000). erinmc: There are several people who are separated from their significant others in the program. Some have split, some stay together. Ultimately, you have to decide whether you want to put your relationship through that much stress, because it will definitely be stressful!

1) The teachers are definitely loads more helpful when you get here. I remember before I started it was impossible to get information from anyone! But I think they may be using all the resources to help the students who are already in the program, so prospective students think the administration isn't helpful at all, which couldn't be further from the truth. I was skeptical that the Professors were as great as I'd heard, but honestly they really are great--funny, caring, and helpful! 2) I'm not sure how many clinical hours we do, but it's probably upwards of 500. That number sounds more daunting than it is.... spread over a year, it's about one 12 hour shift each week. 3) I love this program!! I honestly can't imagine a better one. The faculty, the classes, my classmates, everything is better than I could have hoped for. I was actually conflicted about the idea of becoming a nurse before I enrolled, but now I am excited to start my career. As for the fear of becoming another number: the nursing school is very small, especially the one year program. Professors take the time to learn our names, and we spend so much time together it's impossible not to get to know each other well... maybe too well. (haha, kidding) Every time I've had a problem I've gotten all the help I've needed right away. I highly recommend it!

We had a 10 day vacation at the end of the summer session, and a three week vacation at the end of fall, followed by three weeks where we had classes only twice a week. From now until mid-April we're in school full time, four to five days a week, and after mid-April we continue clinicals for about two months.

The student health form is separate from the nursing health form. For the student form the physical isn't required, just immunization records. If you call student health the nurses there are very friendly and helpful--they'll tell you what to do.

Yeah I think on-campus averages out to about $830 per month... blehghh And look what I fooouunnddd :)

From what I gather we're booked six days a week, something like 9-5 class schedule four or five days a week with an 8 to 12 hour clinical day. I'm not 100% sure on that, though. If you've already got a commute of an hour and a half, it might be kinda hard to work in a job too... maybe look for some data entry thing you could do at home? Or possibly grading? And am I the only person thinking of on-campus housing?

Orientation is June 28 and 29. The program officially starts June 30. The tuition deposit is due April 1. We have to have our admissions packet (health form, malpractice insurance, CPR card etc) mailed in two weeks before the program starts. And then we're good to go!

The deposit deadline is April 1st. I've heard stories of alternates being called up to the first day of the program, though.

haha ok scratch that. I thought malpractice insurance was gonna be an ordeal to sort out but its actually cheap and easy to get--$22.50 for NY residents with HPSO and $29 with NSO, and we can apply online.

When did you hear back from binghamton? I was accepted into Stony Brook over a month ago (phew) but still nothing from Bing... annoyingggg

Ha I'm in the same boat as you, pymschrs. Rochester doesn't have a waiting list, so I imagine they wait to fill the class before they send out rejections... bleh
