  1. I have almost 5 years of acute care hospital experience and have recently left AHS for a clinic job and have never been happier!!! Believe me, you aren't missing out on much by not working in hospital.
  2. Also I should tell you, I went home crying after my first day as a student nurse when I realized that is what I'd be dealing with. However I stuck it out and it does get easier and you don't focus on that part so much. But with that in mind I never did learn to like that part of job and always had my eye on clinic work. Now that I'm working at a clinic I'm so happy I stuck around and found something I love!
  3. I work at a nice clinic Mon- Thurs an don't have to deal with any of that stuff, however I spent 5 years in those type of settings to get here
  4. UPDATE: The clinic job is fantastic and I couldn't be happier with my decision to leave AHS for a private clinic. I am not running around like a crazy person all shift and have time to focus in each client individually and provide the quality care that I've always wanted the time to provide. No more weekends, nights or holidays. They are very flexible with the schedule if I need to leave early or anything for an appointment etc. and I even get my own office. The entire feeling Of the place is like a weight off my shoulders. A nice calm friendly environment.
  5. I've worked with far worse ratios than that during my LTC days, hence why I got out when I could. I once worked night shift at a LTC facility where I was the only nurse with 88 residents and 3 NA's.
  6. I moved to Alberta in 2011 from BC and they didn't make me upgrade anything.
  7. Question to the OP, are you fluent in French?
  8. That's it! It's official! I am no longer primarily employed by the mess they call AHS. I've accepted this position ( 4 days a week) at the private clinic and opted to remain at AHS on a casual basis only. The new job is actually the same pay as AHS ( execept the shift differential but I will only be working day shifts here anyway), it is 4 eight hour days a week, all holidays and weekends off. Benefits are basically the same and I'll still get a flex spending account plus they even give a education allowance. Very excited!!
  9. Anyone with any last minute warnings before I take the plunge?
