So, how many credits is the entire program? Why are you taking 18 credit hours? Are these 18 credit hours additional to what is required for BSN degree? I guess I'm trying to figure how the program is structured?

Well, I stand corrected...On another note, I went to find out about my appeal and it turns out that the appeal has not taken place for my appeal. I did come across a classmate that advised me that the Retraining Scholarship advertised for the accelerated students will be awarding only 2 awards, which really sucks:devil: It's a good thing I did not put all my eggs in one basket!

I have purchased 13 of the 15 books, minus the curriculum. I've purchased my uniform, name tag, minus the shoes & jacket. I have a cheap stethoscope, but debating whether I need to Littmann. Also, I have the second-hand watch. As for appeals, I have not heard anything, but I'm thinking about going to ask for a short-term loan because I have to pay for classes as of 8/19/10 or they'll get dropped...:sstrs:

Has anyone's degree audit been changed to reflect their admission into their respective nursing track? I know they were waiting for the completion of the background check, but I've not been able to register for my courses yet. Anyone in this same boat?

I'm not sure any banks are willing to give money freely like that anymore. You really need to have some type of savings or perhaps keep your job until it becomes absolutely necessary to quit.

I went to the Occupational Medical Center because their titer's price was better than my doctor's office. Also, they'll collect the specimen needed for your drug test, which is also affordable.

Also, when does everything have to be submitted by? Everything must be submitted by orientation, but it is understood people still have to do their background checks, but you will not be cleared to register until the results are received by the Nursing Dept. Oh, and do we need to bring anything to the orientation? Yes, you have to bring your student record form w/ DOCUMENTATION, drug test results, lab results if applicable, copy of CPR/ BLS for HCP, emergency contact card, and background check appointment to show you have one scheduled. As for your schedule, it will be handed to you and you will be told to register for the section you want, but you will not be given the clearance unless your background has been done.

I believe everyone is excited, but the reality started to sink in when looking at the book's list (16 books in total). Also, the uniform: top, $50; name tag, $8; pants, 17; and jacket, ~$35). Also, stethoscope about $80, the nursing kit will be included into the school fees...the information was overwhelming at one point. OH, almost forgot, we WILL NOT cleared to register until all the required documents are submitted including your background check!!!!!! So, just a little tidbit, get everything done. Luckily, my background check will be done on Thursday.

AO students from Spring'10 and/or Fall'09 Are all the books listed necessary?...meaning, are you using all the books listed? Trying to see whether I really need to purchase all these books.

I parked at the parking lot located on 21st and 10 ave. At orientation, the different resources were discussed (e.g. success center, student life center, library services, access, ATI testing, etc) Also, discussed financial aid, admissions, bursar's office regarding appeals/petitions, public safety and bookstore operations. Then we took a short break then the nursing portion started. We were introduced to the chairperson for the AO track, we were assigned our advisor, they went over the student record form and all that they are looking for, we were given our book list and schedule for semester 1,2, and 3. Also, we went over the uniforms, the costs, the shoes, hospital assignment and parking, the stethoscope, class promptness, chain of command of whom to contact. We asked about NCLEX passage scores: AO was about 98% and GO was 94%. Basically, a lot of information given; a lot of which just seemed to go in one ear and out the other due to being really hungry and having a pounding a headache. But now I'm comparing book prices:/

Orientation was ok. I strongly suggest eating breakfast before going and leave home early to find parking. Enjoy all:)

I beg to differ with other schools having the same or more/less cost. The school you have chosen is a private school, which is why you are paying that astronomical price. LPN school is 10-12 months, so you should be paying roughly $2-3K per program. List of schools offering the program: MDC, Mercy, Robert Morgan, Lindsey, and Miami Lakes Technical. If you are willing to travel to Broward County: McFatter, Sheridan, and Atlantic Technical are some options. I'd suggest you think about this very thoroughly especiallly since you may want to become a RN in the future. $24K for a certificate program is RIDICULOUS...and it's not a degree! Here's an example, my bachelor's degree from UF cost me about $46 total including grants, loans, and scholarships; but I owe $20K in student loan. I have a master's degree that I owe $10K. I'm currently going into a accelerated nursing program at MDC and I will probably pay $5-7K for that program alone. But all in all, I have the degrees that make it worth paying the loans every month. Currently, a lot of hospital aren't employing LPNs', so you're limited to nursing homes and they don't pay as well. So, will you be able to pay this loan back? More importantly, will you want to, knowing that the certificate does not carry the weight of a degree and yet you owe so much? Look:eek:!...I want you to do some serious research about this before you commit!!!! Plus, you need to ask yourself whether this is a legitimate school, because I've never heard of this school and I was born and raised in Miami my whole life and I'm almost 30! There are a lot of schools taking advantage of this Nursing craze and people desperate enough are falling for it. Further, let's say you go through with this program, will you be able to sit for the PN boards? Just because you fulfill a program stating you're an LPN, does not mean the Florida Board of Nursing will recognize this school and if it is not recognizable, you will not sit for boards, which means you will not work because you are not certified. Then what? Do your research as you will be the one stuck with a bill! As for the payment plan, with the school being private and their loan possibly being private (not federally funded), you may have to pay every semester...which is a red flag! If it is federally funded, you will be decreasing the amount allotted to you as a degree seeking student; meaning, when the federal goverment offers financhial aid, you are allotted a package which is based on a 4-yr degree or 120 credits and the amount is capped. So, if you're allotted $30 in aid (loans, grants, and/or scholarships) and this school is costing you $10K out of pocket, you only have $20K to possibly get an associates or bachelors. But since LPN is a certificate, I'm pretty sure Saber is giving you private loans because the federal government does not fund certificate programs. One more question--how is the $14k being funded? meaning is it a grant, scholarship, or loan? If loans, is the remaining $10k out of pocket costs? I've rambled enough and I know I don't know you, but I feel I need to help you ask the necessary questions:D. If this helped, I'm glad; if not, ignore this post. Is a titer still needed if you've already had the vaccinations? I was under the impression you had to have one or the other? Not both. Am I correct in my assumption?
