  1. I am currently learning a bit about anatomy before registering for the actual anatomy class this spring and am just about to begin studying it. But I was wondering if it was difficult for any of you to memorize/learn the systems and their functions? I think I will do good because obviously going into nursing I am interested in it. What are some techniques or study routines that helped you learn easier and more effective?
  2. I will be taking 3 classes, possibly 4, but for now it's: Anatomy (my JC only offers A/P separately) Nutrition Sociology & possibly speech. I will also have a 5-6 week old when the spring semester starts, along with my 3 yo! Thank goodness I don't plan on working this spring.
  3. I am just curious as to how many hours everyone studies for the pre-req's each semester. I am doing ok in my current class, but want to make sure I get at least a 3.0 gpa; currently take pre-req's for the core science courses. So how many hours do you study? Do you study every single day, or certain days?, etc. I know NS requires a lot of time and studying and I want to get a great study schedule down before spring semester. I figure from 8pm-11pm each night would be good. I have an almost 3 yo and a new baby on the way, due 12/13/10. So at least my toddler will be asleep by then and I will not be working so I can study more.
  4. Thank you for your responses. I also figured Anatomy would be easier to take before Physiology. Do you think it would be okay and not too overwhelming to take and online Nutrition class, which is only 2 months and an online Sociology class? I figure since the 2 are on line and are co-req's it may be easier. Plus, I am trying to get as much done without setting myself up for failure, as possible. I think it's do-able. I won't be working for this coming semester either which is also going to make things easier.
  5. I am due to take anatomy/physio next semester, but don't know which I should take first. At my JC they are seperate classes. Which was harder/easier for you? I think I will enjoy both, but would like to take the easiest first since I will have a newborn. I am due dec 13th and classes begin Jan 18th. Thanks.
  6. hello all, i just want some opinions on how to schedule next semester. spring (jan 2011) is coming so fast and classes are up. i am a 25 yo with a son who will be 3 yrs jan 7th and i am due with my second dec 13. i do plan on continuing my pre reqs this spring, but am not sure which classes to take. i don't want to over do it and stress myself with adjusting to having 2 kids, but i don't want to doubt myself and fall behind. i know eventually i will get to where it is i want to be so should i take it easy this next semester and get used to my new life; while still taking classes, but easier pre reqs rather than getting the tougher ones out of the way first, which was my plan, or just continue with the sciences and maths, which i consider are the tough ones? i planned on taking anatomy and my last required math, math is my weakness so it will be tough. or should i take just one harder class and and one easy class? i think i may only do 2 classes at a time until i can get used to studying and make sure my grades don't fall. so i know there are plenty of parents who have been in this situation so wwyd or what did you do? oh, this will be my second semester or pre reqs also. thanks all.
  7. I am taking Biology right now along with a pre reg math class. But I am also 35 weeks pregnant with my second child, but if I didn't have children, which I don't know if you do, I think it might not be bad together. Biology is pretty easy, but I've heard mixed things about AP. It just depends on your strengths and weakness.
  8. That is really great! You are a reminder to continue going no matter how long, how many tries or who says it's not for me! Congrats! And good luck with RN school.
  9. Hey there Yuba students. I just wanted to say hello and wish you all well for this semester and your RN career. I can't wait to apply. I am doing pre req's right now and hopefully it will fly by. I still have awhile, but it's great to see others from our small town on here too.
  10. Thanks for the reply! Good luck to you this fall! I do believe I will bite the bullet and challenge myself a little and add another class. I am sure once the semester has ended I will be proud.
  11. I am watching. I am currenlty enrolled at my CC for pre req's and wont' be able to apply to the nursing program until 2012. I don't want to wait so long, but it may be best as I have a toddler and one on the way. I have bills and don't think getting further into debt is the wiser choice for myself at the moment. I just weigh out the pros and cons. I figure either way I will be a nurse in 4-5 years, I can either add 40K+ in debt or just take the time at my CC and end up debt free. Good luck to you whatever you choose!
  12. I am just wondering do any of you have little ones at home also? I do, he is 2.5 yo and I am currently 22 weeks preggo. I am working PT well it's about 60 hrs a pay period and will only be taking 2 classes. Math 50 (Algebra) and Bio 15 (intro to bio). I thought about adding another, but don't want to overdo it being as I am due the week of finals! But I also want to get as many classes as I can out of the way before I have 2 little ones in the mix. Advice? If I add it would be a support class like psychology or sociology.
  13. Thank you so much for both your responses. I want to continue this path and do it for my kids and as quickly as possible, but I know the time with my babies is very important and I will never get it back. It will all work out, I am sure.
  14. I am looking for some motivational stories of mommy's or daddy's who are in or plan on going into a nursing program and how you do it? I mean how do you not get super stressed? How do you handle school, work, and home life? I am 25, 26 this Dec and I have a 2.5 yo and am due with my 2nd son in Dec also. I am pretty much just starting my pre reqs and it's not those I am worried about, it's the actual RN program that scares me and makes me think about how I will be able to spend time with my family, study hard, take care of home and possibly work, if I need to, which I hope I don't. I have had this dream of being an RN for a long time and I guess you can say am a late bloomer and just now taking action. It's important to me now than ever because I have 2 little ones to care for and don't want to fail. So please help a young mom out and give me some advice, tips, and your experience is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  15. I know many, many people do it, but I am wanting to know how do you do it? I am 25, 26 this Dec and have a 2.5 yo and another on the way and I am worried about losing hope or motivation to continue on this career path. I have always wanted to be a RN, especially in L&D or PP, something along those lines, but will the stress of home life, children, school, possibly working all catch up with me and drag me down? I know it depends on the person so I would like to hear your stories of how you continue to thrive for this and how do you manage home, school and work (if you do work). Thanks, I am hoping to either continue with this or find another occupation I could go into; I've thought about being a chemical dependencey couselor or psych tech too?
