Any good reference Oncology books for Nurses?
Hello all, Just found out I will be starting in oncology. I am right now in GI/Colorectal surgery, so needless to say if it isn't colon cancer I am not too shy of clueless. I need a handy reference book, maybe a quick read, that will help me with what I need to know from patients, chemo, radiation, labs, ect. PLEASE any advice is helpful!

Access LPN-RN no wait list Fall 11'!!!
Well the first semster is pretty much online. The second semester is 8 weeks class and clinicals then the rest online. The summer semester is all online. The fall and spring are I think like 2-3 days a week. Not to bad. I hope to see you on Wed 8/24. It's our first meeting

Top of pay scale Cleveland Clinic
Apply to everything! If you get in you can move around after a year. One year is not so bad in a department that isn't your first choice. CCF has amazing benefits. As a LOT of people apply here your cover letter and resume really need to stand out.

Lpn - rn lorain ccc @ medina
Guess not I met with the school last week. I am quite happy first semester is 1 day, second semester is 2 days for 8 weeks (then the rest online), summer is online, third semester is 2 days, and so is the fourth. NOT TO BAD !!!! Only problem is their are only 5 applicants and they can not have all of the class in Medina unless there are 8 I believe. Some of my classes may be at Lorain's main campus.

Top of pay scale Cleveland Clinic
Maybe they have? I was hired in early 2010.

Top of pay scale Cleveland Clinic
That is very untrue. I had no experience at all. I'm pretty sure I'm at the bottom of the payscale.

Phone interview with Cleveland Clinic!!!!
I was hired as a new grad during a freeze. I applied to EVERYTHING at CCF that I could, and made my cover letter really stand out. I'm in lpn-rn program right now. Does ANYONE know the starting salary for RN?

Access LPN-RN no wait list Fall 11'!!!
http://www.lorainccc.edu/Academic+Divisions/Allied+Health+and+Nursing/Allied+Health+and+Nursing+Programs/LPN+to+RN.htm Check out the website. Also there is no enterance test, and the college 101 class won't apply to you. All of my tri-c credits transfered no problem. A lot of the course work is online which is very nice, a friend of mine is in the program now and likes it a lot. The counselor's name is Eddie Hensen.

Is it worth it, lpn programs...?
I found a very good job as an LPN NOT in a LTC or assisted living. I don't work weekends, evenings, or holidays. My employer routinely hires LPNs and will foot the bill for me to go back for my RN. If you're already in the program I would stick with it. You can always bridge later, just remember some schools require a year of working experience to bridge.

Lorain CCC
Yes!. . . I really wanted to go to school 5 minutes from home. It seems like everytime I start to get somewhere there is always something in my way. I am an hour from LorainCCC main campus. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, so if they do offer it I may go anyways. I think I will apply to Tri-C and Kent in Twinsburg as well. I just liked Lorain because I am already a student and I no enterance test.

Lorain CCC
Oh well that's good news for me, because if they cancel Medina's programs he said I'll probably go to Lorain's main campus.
-
Lorain CCC
It's and LPN-RN program. They call it access.

Lorain CCC
Lorain CCC at Medina county college extension has NO WAIT list for fall 11'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am only one of 5 students that have applied. They allow 24 students in so go apply. Most of the classes are online anyway.

new grad getting married..i need advice!
Depending on where you live it will be hard to find a first job. I would take your time looking and if you get an interview. . . just feel it out. You DO NOT have to tell them you are getting married and would be going on a honeymoon, on your first interview. I know how hard it is to get a job and my friends seem to average 3months to a year to find one. So waiting 6 months may set you back to 9 months to 18 months. There is always PRN work too, going on a honeymoon would not really effect a position like that. GOOD LUCK TO YOU and everything will work out how it is supposed to :)

Wife wants all-female personnel in OR. Is this reasonable?
I do not know what hospital your wife is a patient at, BUT I wouldn't think it a huge deal to make an all female staff in the OR. Your wife is in fact a "customer" as well as a patient. I work for surgeons who do exactly what your wife is having done among many other things. The procedure is not very long and therefore would take up many staff members for hours on end. It is very hard to deal with and can be embarassing. If they do not at least "try" to accomidate you then I would look elsewhere.

Stretched to the breaking point
Who's gonna talk!? No one will. I agree thought with the amount of money spent per person in an assited living or LTC they DESERVE better patient staffing ratios!

what makes a good nurse?
Personally I think either you have it or you don't. If you don't have it, but you're determined and stick to nursing you will eventually find it. There are many different nurses with many different presonalities; so it is hard to say you have to have A B and C characteristics. I think you have to be in it because you LIKE choas:no:, crazy yet flexable schedules, and thrive in knowing you are helping someone (even if it is a patient that has driven you up a wall and back:madface:). I like the fact that when most people in the community find out I am a nurse there is a certain level of respect. . . but on the flip side certain Doc's will treat you like you barely graduated high school. There will be double standards, tears:bluecry1: as well as laughter:D, politics, people who you don't get a long with and people you couldn't get through the day without:redpinkhe ect. At the end of the day I wouldn't and couldn't be in any other profession. I might be a little crazy:uhoh3: ha ha Good luck with your decsion.

Waiting for LCCC response?
I'm also applying to LCCC but I'm trying to get into the access program. Did you hear back from them yet? I was told I have to wait until March, but that's for a fall 11 ' start date. I don't know what to expect from their program, but I just hope I get in.
