What is the specific scope of practice of a LPN in NH? I know that IV meds require additional certification, but beyond that, Im not sure. Someone mentioned that in her state, LPNs are not allowed to work L&D, just post partum and the nursery. Is that true for NH?

I will begin LPN school in December & I can't wait. It's my goal to continue on & get my RN in the future. Lately I've been hearing some derogatory things about Practical / Vocational nursing... Some say that LPN's arent "real" nurses...what's your take on this? Some say that LPN's do all the work no one else wants... Some say that LPN's aren't respected very much because they aren't RNs. Are these things true?

Congrats! I'm at GBCC working on pre-reqs still. If you ladies wouldn't mind me asking, what were your grades, etc. to get in? I just have this awful feeling I'm never going to get in. I know it's competitive, but how competitive? What were your NLN scores as well?

Ohhh ok. Thank you! I just looked it up, here's what it says for A&P I: "This course is designed to give a student of any health or medical science a thorough background in anatomy and physiology. Current in-depth information is presented on the structure and function of human cells, tissues, and organ systems, including the skin, skeletal, muscular, nervous and sensory systems. Laboratory work augments lecture topics and includes exercises in microcopy, the study of fresh and preserved specimens, and exercises in human physiology. Prerequisite: Successful completion of high school biology or BIOL041; successful completion of high school chemistry or CHEM043 is recommended." And here's A&P II's description: "A continuation of Human Anatomy and Physiology I. This course includes current, in-depth information of the structure and function of the endocrine, digestive, respiratory, blood, cardiovascular, lymphatic, urinary, and reproductive systems. Laboratory work augments lecture topics and includes exercises in microscopy, the study of fresh and preserved specimens, and physiological meadsurements on the human body. Prerequisite: C or better in BIOL110."

Could be the same in your school. For my school, A & P is different than Human Body. Human Body is a great overview of the body systems and is for criminal justice majors and such. A & P is for massage therapy and nursing students. :)

Quick question for you ladies who have taken both A&P's. I start A & P I today and I'm curious as to what the difference is in these A&P classes. Is A &P II more involved?? Thanks!

I don't think you're ever too old to learn something new! My friend and doula mentor Jan is in her 40's and a nursing student. My suggestion? Go to a community college---much friendly and down to earth to all their students!
