Please Help with HUGE Decision
Hello everyone- I started my FNP program this August, but I also got into a PA school and decided to defer my acceptance; so I have a seat to start on Summer/Fall 2016 if I want to. If I decide to stop my FNP program and start my PA program in 2016 that means that I ll be finishing my PA in 2018 and in contrast if continued I will complete my FNP in 2017, so that is a year behind. Also, if I go to PA school, tuition for the PA program is $60,000 more than what I will be paying for my FNP (20K compared to 80K PA) and it also means that I will use all of my savings in living expenses for the next two years since I wont be able to work during the PA program. Looking at it from a LONG TERM, opportunity wise and finances, is it worth stopping my FNP and starting my PA program? I would lose this semester of the FNP program which didn't cost me much at all due to a scholarship, but as mentioned above, I would be behind a year and have more debt and no savings when done with the PA program. If it means that I will have more opportunities in jobs and better finances at the end then I am ok with making this decision. What do current NPs honestly think? What do you guys believe? Non biased answers please. Thanks in advance

Is this true? Salary Question

Reimbursement Question
I have a few questions that some people seem to have different answers to and was wondering if you could assist me with this. How does the reimbursement work for midleves, both PAs and NPs? Some people tell me that PAs seem to get 85% of the reimbursement and sometimes not even that since the physician has to cosign the chart and per this they charge a percentage of that. The NPs being independent practitioners, they seem to get more reimbursement since the physicians dont need to cosign the chart, thus , not charging a percentage. What is the truth behind this? I read the legislation for Independence for NPs, thanks for letting me know about it. I know that CMA has a lot of opposition to it and last time it was on legislation it didnt go through; do we think it might be different this time? I am simply to weigh my option and I know you are the right person to ask do to all of your experience and knowledge. I am a California Resident and I know that SB 323 is currently in legislation. Also, how is the reimbursement different where NPs have actually full autonomy of practice? Thanks again,

If you had to, what would you chose?
have a question and I am looking for the most sincere advice. I have been an ICU RN for two years and last year I applied to an FNP program (Sonoma State University) and a Masters in Medical Sciences/PA Program (Stanford University School of Medicine). I have been blessed enough to have been admitted to both programs and am trying to decide which program/path to chose. I am have no interest whatsoever to open/start my own practice in the future, my goal is to work in family medicine, but also to work in the ED and Critical Care setting. I love the education PAs get as they go hard into the sciences and disease process and do clinical rotations like the medical school model. I like the FNP idea because its cheaper and I would be able to keep working while in the program, but I dislike the first year filled with nursing theory stuff which I dont like at all and dont like the complete focus in primary care and the minimal amount of hours in clinical practice. I see pros and cons on both. I am currently leaning more towards the PA program at Stanford because of the caliber of education at this institution and also because as a PA its easier to go from family practice to critical care without having to do an ACNP from an FNP perspective. In all sincerity, what would you do and why? Thanks in advance.

What would you do?
I live here in California and both PAs and NPs get paid the same. I mean, the only downside I see is that I wont be able to work for the next 21 months of the PA program as opposed to the FNP program, but I have enough savings to live off since I worked hard knowing that going to school was my goal. Some places pay PAs more than the NPs. Jules, like I said, I like the PA idea of transitioning to critical care or ER without having to do the ACNP. Thanks again. P.S. This decision is stressing me out! lol

Advice regarding Performance Assessments (PA)
Quick question: I took the PA for Care if the Older Adults and passed; but will need to review some sections. From the coaching reports dealing with Medicaid stuff. It suggests chapter 19. When you guys reviewed from the coaching report prepping for the OA did you guys read the whole chapter or how did you review your poor areas? Thanks!

Need Your Advice Desperately!
Hello everyone- I need your advise and perspective. A couple weeks ago my manager communicated with me to let me know that she was doing an investigation on "narcotic divertion" and that I was going to be place off the schedule for a couple of days. We were going to meet at HR with a specialist dealing with this. The days passed and we met at HR with this person. My manager stated that someone in my unit thought that I might be diverting narcotics; something that completely caught me off guard and honestly hurt me. My manager, along with the pharmacy manager did the investigation, they pulled out all of the records from pixys and other narcotics that I have dealth with in the last 4 years and all of my records showed no issues and actually excellent recording of the management of such. The HR person asked me if I had an issue and I told her not at all and that I was open to any kind of investigation because I wanted that issue resolved. After a few minutes, my manager apologized and the HR person told me that if I heard rumors to go straight to her. My manager told me that as part of the investigation she had to talk to a couple people in my unit but told them not to mention anything to anyone because of the seriousness of such. I went back to work a few days ago and honestly I felt extremely paranoid about people looking and talking to me; this affected me a lot emotionally, it honestly hurt me. Anyways, I was doing my job normally and all of a sudden one of our techs comes into the room and tells me, "Dude, I heard what happened to you" I was extremely surprised and asked him who had told him that, whom he said was his sister, whom is the house supervisor... I didnt say much but simply explained myself and what had happened... One of my good friends in the unit whom I told what happened told me that a couple of people from the night shift knew and one of them specifically had mention it to an Respiratory Therapist when all of the investigation was going on...... I feel extremely upset, depressed and anxious.. I didnt do anything and in the investigation was proved, but now I honestly feel like most of the people in the unit know and its making me feel extremely uncomfortable.. =( What should I do? Honestly, I am not sure who this person who said that about me was and not sure why they did.. The issue now is that I feel like this and it upsets me that other people are saying things.. Should I talk to the HR person and my manger? Thanks again

MICU vs SICU
I think it depends in the facility yo work on. In my MICU we move pts pretty fast in and out to our stepdown units. We do get pts with chronic complex pathologies and its very interesting and fascinating to learn multisystem involvement.

How do you become a Surface Transport Nurse?
How do you become a surface transport nurse? I have two years experience as an ICU RN and worked previous nursing as an EMT. What would be the best way to do this? Thanks in advance.

Is there such programs?
Hello everyone- I am wondering if there is such FNP programs for RNs (Associate Degrees) with a degree closely related to nursing (Public Health/Community Health) that is two years. I know there is bridge programs where the student has to take anywhere 5-10 classes (BSN Level) before taking the actual MSN/FNP Classes, but what about programs where you can go straight into the MSN/FNP Program? For example, I know that UCLA has such program, but are there anything other such programs that you are aware of? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

CRNA Schools that dont require..
I hold a B.S. in Public Health and have an Associates degree in Nursing; have two years experience as a Medical/Surgical/Trauma Critical Care Nurse. Are there any CRNA programs that take a non nursing Bachelors degree applicant? I tried to do some research with no luck. Thanks in advance,

ATI Objective Assessment for Community Health (C228)
I guess I should start reading my Community Health ATI stuff for when I take the class, what do you think?
-
Can this be completed in 1 semester (6months)?
Also guys, for those of you who completed in 1 semester, what is the strategy here? I have read that the COS from WGU has enough work to keep you for a semester, so once I start, what should the focus be to get through the classes as soon as possible? I will become OCD with this and every free minute I will be working on it. As mentioned and asked, what was the strategy used to get through these courses as fast as possible and keep going on to the next? Thanks again

Opinion regarding WGU
What is COS? What is OA and what is PA? I am starting the program in a month so just wondering here =)

ATI Objective Assessment for Community Health (C228)
I am a bit confused here. Community Health Nursing for RN to BSN includes ATI? So does the final exam for the community health nursing class for WGU is the ATI exam on community health?
-
Can this be completed in 1 semester (6months)?
Thanks a lot for the reply guys! How can I make sure to complete this Community Health Class as one of my first ones? Is there a process I follow or how would that go? Thanks again!

Did this happen to you?
I have sent my transcripts to WGU for their online RN to BSN Program. On one of my college transcripts/institutions right after high school I took an AP Spanish Class and received credit for two classes. WGU is making a huge deal saying that they need to see the actual AP documentation, which means a delay of two weeks or more and close to 30 bucks. On another college transcript, it says I have two classes in progress this semester, which I do since I am finishing up my BS in Public Health, but the person helping me says THEY WILL NOT evaluate the transcripts because of the in progress classes. What the heck? Its been sooo difficult for them to do this, why does this happen? The person I am taking to is ***** ****, anyone familiar with him? Thanks again
