  1. My M/S unit is totally bipolar-extremely stressful some nights, while other nights flow together without a hitch. You just never know what the night has in store for you. On my unit-the team of nurses you work with can greatly influence how your night is going to go. Some of my charge nurses are GREAT and will jump in and pick up the slack on things like re-starting IV's that need to be re-started and things like that. Other charge nurses just SUCK-their the ones who spend the whole shift surfing the net and won't do ANYTHING to help you out- I swear they get off on watching you drown under a hectic patient load! Some nights I never want to come back, other nights I feel like I'm on top of the world. I have no desire to work in M/S for my entire career- but I know a few nurses who have and love it. I do know that it's given me a lot of nursing experience and as much as I hate it sometimes, I have no regrets for going into it after nursing school. With that said-I'm counting down the days for when I can transfer to something else!
  2. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and just re-take the courses that are pulling your grades down. I did that myself and once I got my GPA up to par, I was able to get accepted into a program which I've now completed and I'm now on my way to taking the NCLEX. So- don't despair-you can do it! Even if it means having to tack on a few more semesters re-taking a class or 2, like I had to. :redpinkhe
  3. Mines in 2 wks and I've decided not to go for several reasons 1) Since leaving the army yrs ago, I've struggled with PTSD and serious anxiety issues-and everytime I let myself think about dealing with the ceremony/crowds etc-it's just been way too overwhelming 2) for the most part, I don't feel particularly close to anyone in my class-and I want to celebrate this milestone with those that have helped me get through this-which doesn't include anyone in my class 3) I'm in my mid 30's, and I've had my share of award ceremonies, and quite frankly they just don't matter as much as they did when I was younger.
  4. Congratulations to you as well, Unique! You'll also have to keep in touch- here on the boards so we can make it through this together! Good luck!
  5. That's AWESOME Kathy! We'll definitely have to keep in touch on here-since we'll be going through this around the same time
  6. I start on the 24th of Aug.; if all goes well *fingers crossed* I'll graduate in the Spring of 2011. How about you? :wink2:
  7. Did you have to come down from Shreveport or Nachitoches? Wow-I'm surprised they had you take it all the way over here-since it's all computerized. Who knows- we may have been taking the teas at the same time :wink2: Which campus did you apply for? I'm thinking Shreveport and Nachitoches probably have more slots than Leesville does (there's only 20 here)- which should up your chances of getting in if someone has to drop out of the program. Either way- I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!!
  8. I use to have a HUGE problem with sleeping in because of turning off my alarm-then falling asleep again for "just a few more minutes". What helps me is to hide my alarm clock in a random spot, away from my bed, before going to sleep. It really helps me-having to get out of bed to find it- by the time I turn it off, I'm awake enough to keep from going back to sleep again.
  9. *whew* I can FINALLY stop stressing over whether or not I made it into the nursing program- because today I received my acceptance letter from NSU! Wow- so many emotions! I'm thrilled to have gotten in, but I'm now stressed out on whether or not I'll make it out:uhoh3:
  10. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I just got my acceptance letter today too! (I'm going to NSU)
  11. *hugs* I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't get in! I'm surprised you didn't- based on your grades. The only thing I can think of that may have kept you from getting in would be the TEAS test. Perhaps you can re-take it? I'll keep my fingers crossed you'll get an acceptance letter in the weeks to come.
