Something wrong with this picture.
The mom should've been called back by the office staff or the doc to discuss treatment options. If not she should have requested it, I would never discuss my childrens care (no matter what age) in the waiting room. As far as the cost, I'm in GA and unless you are pregnant or old getting help is next to impossible. Your always a few dollars over. We qualify income wise for the kids state assisted insurance program but aren't allowed to use it because my husband is a state employee and they rarely approve those cases....and in my particular area free or low cost assistance is uncommon.

Working part time?
I work prn and love it. I give a couple of different managers my availability and they schedule me. It allows me to work my schedule around my 4 children. Part time works well if you don't need the benefits which I don't.

New Grad LPN offered a Nurse Supervisor position in Post Acute
I work in acute care in GA, in my facility the initial assessment must be done by the RN. The data (all the med/surg history and pharm list) can be collected by the LPN. Our pts do not necessarily get an RN assessment Q24 hrs. We do primary nursing with an RN charge, the rest of the staff nurses are a mix of LPN's and RN's. Alarms would have went off to be given that much responsibility without a proper orientation and as a new grad no less. I have been lucky everywhere I worked I have received a good orientation with the exception of one agency job with quesitonable practices that I quickly left.

That is not how you address one on the telephone.. *vent*

That is not how you address one on the telephone.. *vent*
Sorry this happened to you. One of my pet peeves is rude telephone behavior. I also try to use good telephone manners no matter what kind of day I am having. There is no excuse for being just plain rude.

My hospital is breaking the law...
I've done team nursing like this before and it can work very well but if you don't trust your partner it will create a lot more work. We no longer do this at the hospital I currently work at. We each have a pt load of 5-6 on average and are a mix of LPN's and RN's and it works well for us. I have worked in an ICU setting as an LPN and carried my own patients. The RN had to co-sign care plans and initial assessment but other than that I was on my own after orientation. I hung blood, pushed IV meds and managed vent patients in conjunction with RT and a lot more, point is each hospital makes their own guidelines based on their states BON regulations.

im selfish? hmmm
Her comment was inappropriate and rude. It is a personal choice. Why should she care, it doesn't affect her one way or another.

Ironic:No Healthcare for Nsg Homes
Our insurance is over $500/mo (family coverage) and we definitely don't bring home the big bucks. The extras like getting nails or hair done, or having dinner out occasionally have to be carefully budgeted in. Alot of times we can afford what we need if we limit our wants. The cost of not having insurance is not a chance I am willing to take.

Ironic:No Healthcare for Nsg Homes
What I wouldn't give to pay just $25/month for health insurance. I don't know anybody who pays that little. I agree in this instance I think the fault lies with the employees not the NH, afterall the NH is covering over 95%of the cost.

What DO we do...really?
My sisters husband was like this--thought all she did was hand out a few pills and write a few notes. He had no clue what nursing entails. Always complained that she didn't want to work extra pulling a double or giving up her days off. Even when she took an office job he couldn't figure out why she wouldn't spend her two off days (at least one of them) at the hospital to bring in some extra money--afterall a nurses job is easy right?!? I mean you guys don't do much right? Seriously?!?
