  1. i know it can be confusing. what you can do is to look at ec's bookstore online. each course has a list of books you need for that course. most times there are up to 7-8 books for that course. should you buy all 7 books? i dont think so. i basically buy the book that is mostly listed on the course outline and most times i use one book per course. i dont buy my books from ec bookstore bcos they're too pricey for me. i take the name of the book and search for it on amazon.com. the last bookseller i had on amazon.com has some tcn books she's willing to sell for cheaps. pm me for her email. i usually buy used books and i found out that you can save a ton of money from buying older editions (they're not too different). you can call me cheap if you like . please do not post email addresses in the public message boards, as it is against our terms of service. thanks- bbfrn, moderator
  2. There are also some Gen ed courses you can get from DSST(DANTES) and are accepted by excelsior. CLEP and DSST courses are really cheap. all you have to do is study the course outline and test out. I didn't have to buy any textbook for the sociology and Biology I cleped. I used Library books. You'll be suprised at what you can find at the local library. Amazon.com is a wonderful site to buy used books. I got my A&P txt book for $8, what i would have got for about $120. What courses are you taking?
  3. In addition, maintain standard precautions as much as possible. Do stay away from certain pts with conditions such as CMV, herpes zostera and TB or handle certain medications with teratogenic effects like methotrexate or chemo meds.
  4. I totally understand how you feel. I Was 10 wks pregnant when my husband was laid off from his job last year. I was covered under his job insurance and had some ob appointments. As soon as he lost his job I switched over to my job insurance. It was not a headache at all. Pregnancy may be a pre-existing condition but the insurance will still cover it. The coverage was 80:20. Luckily for me my husband got another job with a better package before the baby was born and got full coverage. So enjoy every bit of your pregnancy. Dont worry much about what your employer will do. Bottom line is you CANNOT be fired. I will also advise you to find out about AFLAC if they offer it to you, but don,t tell them about your pregnancy. I think they cover for sick days. I remember they offered something like that in one job orientation a long time ago.
  5. congrats! way to go! There's usually a wait period of about 6mths b4 you take the CPNE. you may want to save one Gen Ed course for that wait period so you dont get bored.
  6. I'm going thru EC too. Like lunahrn said, you can get them wayyyy cheaper at Ebay. I get my modules from amazon.com. just look for the Nursing concepts. they're almost the same thing as the current nursing courses. All you need to do is compare and match up the courses guides.that will save you some bucks.
  7. I didn't know i could take INL from another inst. EC told me it was a mandatory course!. I just started the course last week. How was the exam like?
  8. Thank so much for all the info. It just seems there are a lot of EC ASN students out there but very few BSNs. I wish you all the very best at Chamberlain.
  9. Hi lunaRN, I'm a new member and currently an EC student. i've read quite a number of your posts. Just out of curiosity, is there any advantage of doing the chamberlain RN-BSN as oppossed to the Excelsior ASN-BSN? The EC BSN degree is just a few classes away from the ASN it appears.
  10. thanks so much for that info. every little tip helps especially when i'm trying to get my money's worth of material.
  11. it's a good idea lisa to keep on moving with your studies while u wait for excelsior to get things together. I'm waiting for my enrolment process too. but in the meantime i'm studying chronicity and repro. You'll find out that the reading is not wasted and u can focus more on those practice exams as soon as you enroll.
  12. congrats. micro was a very complx course for me. but i passed it. The txbook was so voluminous. Just focus on the microbiology study guide by Funke. It's very on the point and as good as gold. make sure you study DNA and RNA.
  13. Wow! that must have cost a fortune. I have one fund. of nrsing book i used in my lpn sch by kozier annd Erb. i must have spent about $150 only to find out i could buy it for about $25 on amazon used books. The book is still useful though. I found out that older editions are way cheaper.
  14. Thats very true lisa. I found some college network books on amazon.com. The thing is they come as nursing concept titles but they can be very helpful. I'm also thinking of getting additional study guides from studygrouo101. do you think they can be helpful?
  15. Thanks! I'm done with Gen ed courses and working on chronicity now. Have you completed all your nrs theory exams?
