  1. How did you find a place to do clinicals? Does it have to be in a hospital? The program in Texas is on probation for insufficient NCLEX pass rates. So I'm glad I didn't go that route. My commute would be about 4 hours too as I am in the North Shore.
  2. Thanks for your replies. It's good to know I can speedily retake or test out of the courses. I set a meeting with my enrollment counselor, so I'll see what the next step is.
  3. Hello , I am a chiropractor in the initial phases of applying to the pre-nursing WGU program in Indiana. My transcripts have been recently evaluated and Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology were found to be lacking. I have taken these courses as part of the module system at the National University of Health Sciences, so they do not appear as individual classes. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and how would you suggest I proceed? I can CLEP out of the courses, but I'd rather not since I have taken the courses and even taught Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology at a Junior College since graduating chiro school. Thanks for your help. Arnetra
  4. DC4NOW, Can you share more about your clinicals and labs? I contacted the school and they discouraged applying to the program if you are more than 60 miles away from the clinical sites. Are labs and clinicals scheduled at the same time each week? The program in Texas requires you to travel to the clinical sites in Texas once a month for 3 days. Thanks,
  5. Thanks dc4now. Is WGU Western Governors University? Are their classes online?
  6. Two docs I know had to find their own clinical rotations, but had previous relationships with MDs. I don't know the cost, but to get more information, I reached out to the admissions office and asked if they had any students in the program willing to speak to perspective students who have questions. They had a list of emails of docs in the area that were willing to talk. To find out about accreditation, I would call the state and and national nursing associations.
  7. Samford University has accepted and graduated at least 3 DCs that I know of that completed the direct entry program through Hardin Simmons in Texas.
  8. Thanks for the feedback. Have you had any feedback from people that are students at the Institute of Healthcare Professions? Other boards say that the program is not yet nationally accredited, which would be a problem for me practicing in Illinois.
  9. Do anticipate any problem finding a preceptor? Also, will you need to have a relationship with an MD to practice as an NP? Thanks for your reply!
  10. Thanks for doing the review. I am looking to apply to the program next year and was wondering what the hours/days are for the day and evening/weekend programs. Thanks, Arnie
  11. Has anyone started or finished the Midwest program at WB? If so, are you going to work as an RN first or start the NP program? Is there any truth to the rumors of NP requiring a doctorate by 2015? Thanks,
  12. dc4now, Have you started the WBU program? I plan to apply for the March start. After contacting Midamerica Learning, they put me in contact with other chirps in my area that graduated from the program. The information they gave was very helpful. They stated that it was a LOT of studying, but well worth it. Some advice given was to work with other chiros in the program in studying and preparing for exams and clinicals. It was also suggested that you study from NCLEX prep book while in program.
  13. Hello, There are a number of ways to begin your road to NP. Are you in Indiana? If so, I would call the local community colleges (CC) and 4 year universities to get the requirements for RN or Associates Nursing degree. In the chicago metro area, most colleges require that all science courses be taken within 5 years of applying for nursing school/nursing degree. I have a friend in Ohio who was able to begin nursing school without having to retake science classes. There is also a program for chiropractors to become nurse practitioners through MidAmerica Learning. Read through this thread, I know the information for MidAmerica Learning is posted. Call around and post what you find. I hope this helps.
  14. Hello MereSanity, Where do you work? In the chicagoland area, PAs rule the OR.
  15. Hello, I am applying to Truman and was wondering can you explain what is Block 1, Block 2, etc. of classes. Does this mean that all block 1 classes have to be taken together at the times listed?
  16. Thanks DC2RN. My reasons for wanting to become a nurse practitioner is to provide more services to patients. At times I feel limited by the DC scope of practice. I feel so energized when I have the opportunity to educate patients on managing hypertension or diabetes. I would like to do more of this, for a wider array of people, not just the middle class insured person. What was the road to Psych NP like?
  17. Thanks for responding. Please keep us posted when you graduate. Do you plan to work as a nurse after you've obtained your BSN?
  18. Does anyone know any chiropractors that have completed their BSN through the MidAmerica Learning program at WBU? Thanks.
  19. hello everyone considering chiropractor to nurse practitioner. i received this email today. [color=#9e3c29]mid america [color=#9e3c29]learning dear prospective student, this email is to inform you of some changes in the wbu online bsn program that will make it a better fit for more students looking to expand their health care expertise. rather than having to pay for the entire online bsn program up front, mid america learning and wbu have made arrangements to charge tuition on a pay-as-you-go, per-term basis. starting with students entering in the fall of 2010, tuition will be $6,428 per term for the online bsn program. (there may be additional tuition charges for other courses, such as general education courses you might be required to take, if those courses are taken at wbu. also, the following fees are assessed one-time in full at the beginning of the first term in addition to program tuition.) a) standardized tests and nclex-rn preparation ($700) b) nursing skills lab supplies ($250) c) learning management system (lms) fee ($350) d) proctor secure testing equipment ($150 ... optional, but highly recommended) note: assessment for the lms fee will begin with students entering the program for the winter 2010 term or later tuition is subject to change, so if you have already secured financing for the entire program's tuition, don't worry. prepaying for future terms will ensure that you take advantage of the lowest tuition cost. if you have not already found financing, this change in tuition structure may give you access to additional federal student loans and grants. to talk to an enrollment counselor about enrolling in the wbu online bsn program, call (325) 428-0407 or email [email protected] we hope to see you soon! the wbu/mid america learning team
  20. Chiro-ann How were you able to balance it all? I work about 35 hours a week as an IC and just started re-taking/taking pre-reqs. I pondered taking 2 or 3 classes at a time, but was concerned about being overwhelmed. Any advice you give would be greatly appreciated. Arnie
  21. Thanks Phillip for the reply to the thread. Can you please share your experience in nursing school with us? I attended National in Lombard and they were quite heavy with the health sciences and I wonder how the work load in nursing school compares to chiro school. I am retaking General Chemistry now and plan to take Anatomy/Physiology 1 & 2, Microbiology, and CNA certification over the next year to improve my chances of getting into a Chicago community college. The competition to get into nursing school is fierce in these parts. Where did you attend for your RN? Are you looking for a job and where would you like to work? I intend to go on to get my FNP and marry chiro and FNP in my office. Thanks again, Arnie
  22. Shell, Thanks so much! I will call and check it out. Chiros
  23. Shell, Where did you take a 3 week CNA course? I've been looking for a quick course so that I get my paperwork in.
  24. I recently contacted Oakton to see if they had a joint agreement with Harper College for an LPN program and the was told that you can enroll in the RN program at Oakton and test at the 1 year mark for the LPN exam. You should contact Oakton for more information.
  25. I work 3 1/2 days a week as an independent contractor and am taking pre-requisites for the 2 cc college programs I plan to apply to. I met with advisors and everything would transfer except biology and chemistry. The CCs of Chicago require that biology and chemistry be taken within the last 5 years. Mine were 7 years old. I didn't argue with the advisors, just signed up to take the classes so I can get the ball rolling. Yes I agree with keeping the thread going. I know a few chiros looking to expand their practice to include Nurse Practitioner. I currently have a friend and previous chiro classmate who is currently in the nursing program at Ohio State. I'm really excited about this process!!! I love new challenges:yeah: A
