  1. hey guys....I mainly did questions from Davis 2010 for the the new nclex format. I did horrible on the practice tests/quizzes, rarely scored above 60-65%. However, i just took my nclex-rn a couple of days ago and i found out today that I passed....so it is a successful book! Oh yeah, i did not do kaplan or any other review besides Davis and sometimes saunders. And trust me, I was not a great nursing student.....so if you are interested in this book-get it!
  2. PVT works!!!! Got the good pop up about an hour after I took the exam on June 30, 2010 and saw my name as a licensed RN on Florida BON website! Please, if you are worried about the nclex, PRAY PRAY PRAY to God. Glory to His name because He is the only one who got me through this......Trust and believe in Him!!! Also, if this helps, I mainly used Davis 2010 NCLEX review book to study for NCLEX. I did not want to pay for Kaplan so I bought this book instead and I loved it :) Honestly, the Davis questions are really hard and I rarely scored above 60-65% on practice tests/quizzes, but it really did help me..... And one more thing, to all my discouraged students and Grad nurses out there, you CAN and WILL accomplish this mountain!!! I was by all means not the best nursing student.....so dont be hard on yourself!
  3. ALSO which may help....ATI states there is a difference between standard precautions and transmission precautions Standard precautions: washing hands, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection, fask mask (always wash hands; use others when dealing with secretions, bodily fluids, etc) Transmission precautions: 1. Airborne-private room, negative pressure, mask, N95 mask for TB, UV (dont really understand why UV would be used but memorized it anyways) 2. Droplet-Private room, mask, put mask on patient if he/she is leaving room 3. Contact- private room, gloves, gown
  4. ATI says hydration first!
  5. here is a link i found that has helped me...... http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/root/vumc.php?site=infectioncontrol&doc=3932
  6. I am using Davis's constantly, did not want to pay 500$ for Kaplan so I bought the Davis book. I do 25-100 questions a day from the cd (work full time and pregant so a little hard to concentrate on studying). I find that the questions are very hard so I do horrible as well! But honestly, I would rather harder questions to study from than easier ones because I believe they prepare me better. Don't feel bad, I am in the same boat as you....Davis is kicking my butt!
  7. I graduated on May 1, 2010 and did not receive my ATT until the beginning of June. I decided to schedule my nclex-rn June 30. I was just wondering how often did you guys study for the nclex-rn?? I have been working full time since graduating and I am also 6.5 months pregnant, so by the time I get home from work, I CRASH!!! I am just trying to get the nclex-rn out of the way before the baby comes. I also have a job waiting on me, pending my nclex-rn results. I know people may tell me not to work full time and focus on studying, but I NEED the money! I usually get 25-50 questions done per day with the new 2010 Davis's nclex-rn review book. It is really awesome and I do pretty good with the question results. I guess I just get nervous because I hear of students who study all day and do thousands of questions! I would have done the Kaplan review but it is too expensive and i live so far away from the review sessions. Is anyone in the same boat as I? Really scared!
  8. ok, so i am in my last semester and last class of nursing school and I am doing horrible! Well, I have been really stressed out because I recently found out I was pregnant and the father is someone who I have been with since I was 15 (six years) but now he is not involved whatsoever and I work part-time on top of everything else.......i feel so depressed and alone. I mean I have worked really hard and been through so much stress during nursing school and high school....i should have taken a break after high school but i went straight into school full time. I feel so burnt out i cant even concentrate on studying but i really dont wont to fail my last class! but I also feel that I should take a break because I feel like im hurting the baby with all this stress about stupid tests i am always so worried about. I cant even describe how much i hate school right now........help???? not to mention, the class i am failing is OB!! I mean come on, OB in my school is a breeze.
  9. you should definately start now because you may not have this chance again........you may regret not jumping in now......nursing school sucks the life out of you but it is worth it for you and your family....have you thought about student loans????
  10. oh yeah...and just another dissapointing heads up....making below a 77 in mdc nursing school is failing....really sucks!!! they will explain in orientation
  11. sorry jdcurly, totally disagree.....i believe that if immigrants/future citizens want to come to this country (especially work here!) they should at least TRY to learn the english language..if someone doesent like the culture here go back home..that is like me saying "i am moving to italy but i will never learn an italian word and never eat pizza just because i dont like their culture but i totally want to live there".and it is not fair for the citizens who do work here, that should not have to know any other language than english, get discriminated all the time (obviously besides for translator jobs) and get turned down......i see it all the time...no wonder why our economy sucks!! but of coorifice, if it was me going to another country and i choose not to learn their language i would get discriminated like crazy!!!!
  12. oh....sorry i dont mean to vent..but i forgot to mention that my patients talk crap about me when they think i dont understand (i may not know spanish language but i know certain words!) and do not like me on purpose just because i dont speak their language...so i def. feel your pain but try not to get discouraged!!! keep your head up!!
  13. well, i do not know where you live but i live in miami florida and i know exactly how you feel! i am currently a full time nursing student, english speaking (only language i know....born n raised n america...go figure) and i currently do my clinicals in miami. now the place i do my clinicals is horrible (for me at leats)....for the past 7 monthes, now i am serious about this, i have not had ONE english speaking patient and the nurses that work there BARELY get by with english because they never speak it and forget about the CNA's....none of them know english.....most of the nurses down here go to school down here and all the professors down here speak spanish so it is pretty easy to pass nursing school down here with barely knowing the english language. well my point is that it makes me really upset at times because, of coorifice, everyone of the other clinical students speak spanish and they learn and experience more and get to at least interact with their patients.........but i def. think you should look into higher authority about this situation.......if i had the chance i would....but seriously what would i do??? sue the american hospital cuz no one speaks the american language....never that in miami....good luck!!
  14. yay!!! that is so awesome....i bet you feel great!! cant wait for my day
  15. WHAT NOT TO BUY!! (I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME THIS!!) you will get a book list at orientation, but do not buy all the books like i did waste of money!! 1.) Nurses pocket guide (it sucks) 2.) Diagnostic and testing lab book (some title like that) 3.) if you are good at math, dont buy the intro to pharm book, because the professors give (or should mine did!!) you example sheets of test problems (best way to learn math) and you can look up conversions online, if you are good at math but still want to buy it wait a couple weeks after class starts cuz you will get it cheaper 4.) the list recommends two dictionaries, you only need one...honestly the mosbeys is way better and more detailed (more pics too!) but bigger than the tabers...if you absolutly want a dictionary you can carry around then i would get the tabers..but if not dont buy a dictionary because all of the terms are online and easier to understand that way (i hardly ever use my dictionary) 5.) nursing skills book: waste of money for me!! only opened it once and i am halfway through the program....what i do is bring my camera (video on phone works too, but need lots of mem.) and record the skills the teacher performs and put it on my comp to study later. i also put the videos on utube so my other students can view and study from them too......but ask bcuz your professor may not allow you to record....so wait to buy, go to first class, ask, if yes...then dont buy the book....if no then buy the book 6.) MDC labcoat......really expensive (i think 50 bucks) and you can buy a reagular at the UA store for 15$.....wait until your first clinical day and ask if they preferr the mdc one....most dont care because the professors know how expensive they are YOU CAN ALWAYS BUY THESE BOOKS LATER ON BUT JUST WAIT AND SEE IF YOU REALLY NEED THEM!! WHAT TO BUY!!! 1.) med surge handbook (best thing in the world...great for clinical and studying!!) 2.) in replacement for the nurses pocket guide buy Delmar's Medical-Surgical Nursing Care Plans (saves a lot of time and way easier....really ne care plan book other than the pocket guide is way easier) 3.) in replacement for the diagnostic and testing lab book your medical surgical textbook (which you have to buy) will do just fine
