  1. If they have no positions then they should release the grads from repayment obligations. You be the judge: E(2) of the Loan Disclosure Statement states, “Participation in this program [i.e., the Kaiser Permanente Nursing Student Loan] guarantees hiring to a nursing staff position . . . .”
  2. Kaiser scholars will not necessarily have to pay back their loans. If Kaiser does not do their part then they have broken the agreement per the promissory note. They have until 7/15 to get the grads working fulltime with benefits as staff nurses or they break the contract. Yes it may get 'legal'.
  3. Yes we understand the legality involved. I'm sure the programs are the same. At the present time there are about 20 graduates impacted in this manner. Lawyers have been contacted (not something we would have planned to do). This is not a pretty ending to years of work and an expectation that if you do your part Kaiser will do its part. Communication continues and time will tell. Meanwhile my daughter has started the application process at several locations in our area (several months after she would have started without being involved in the Kaiser program). Most noteable: Part E(2) of the Loan Disclosure Statement clearly states, “Participation in this program [i.e., the Kaiser Permanente Nursing Student Loan] guarantees hiring to a nursing staff position Current and future participants in this program deserve to know the truth.
  4. When did you get your placement? Yes the program has worked in the past but not now and not in this area. None of the students who graduated in May 2009 in our area and were recipients of the Kaiser program have received fulltime positions at the going rate with benefits. My daughter is one of them and has her BSN and RN (and a BS in Biological Sciences). The current offer by Kaiser (made on Tuesday this week) is to work fulltime through http://www.selaco.com/ at Kaiser for $20 per hour without benefits for up to 12 weeks with no position guarantee. They have told the graduates that they might end up with part-time, per diem, no position or maybe a position by the end of the 12 weeks (no guarantees). Graduation was 5/15/09. This is not hoopla. We have the offer letter in hand. No one is happy from this group. This story is not over. We'll be quite vocal about this in the next couple weeks. We are playing this fairly lowkey at this time. If that was your outcome after graduation and getting your license how would you respond?
  5. The Accelerated BSN program at CSUSM is highly competitive. You must have another BS degree before being accepted. The rigorous requirements involved 2 years work for our daughter straight through. During the last year of the program the on location clinical experiences varied widely regarding time, dates and location. She had a flexible part time job (25-30 hours per week) that adapted to her changing schedule which worked out quite well until she quit (after 4 years) just a couple weeks before graduation to study fulltime for the NCLEX. She took that 1 month after graduation and passed. It's quite common in online posts to have misspellings particularly when a spell checker is not included. Yes it is important to learn to spell correctly which includes knowing when to look something up. This is a skill that can be practiced and perfected. It also requires an eye for detail. I'm a computer geek by trade with an MBA and I continue to see spelling errors (particularly in online posts) by others in my line of work with similar credentials. Sometimes these are a result of late night posts, sometimes by someone who doesn't know the correct spelling of a word, or possibly dyslexia, and sometimes by a person who is intent on just getting their message out and they may use TLAs, smilies, or other cryptic wording to get their point across. I've learned over the years to be more accepting of online posts than of email and/or letters. These days it doesn't necessarily mean that the poster can't spell. Remember that to make the right impression regarding your abilities and intelligence it is always best to take the time to spell properly. [Yes, I just corrected the spelling in the title of this thread although it only shows on my post.]
  6. Are there any pending requirements that have not been received/processed by the board? I know of someone who took the test but still needed some records sent over from a previous school. Best to do as instructed and contact your member board. My daughter took the NCLEX on June 19 and saw the results online early June 23 (in CA).
  7. This technique worked for my daughter (in CA). Tested on Friday, June 19 with confirmed positive RN results online early Tuesday, June 23. She only had 75 questions.
  8. First of all try to breathe slowly and deeply several times and calm yourself. It's good for you and your baby. Take a walk or bath or whatever else you do to soothe your heart and mind. Consider this waiting period just one example of the many stresses you will face as an RN. Practice your stress reduction techniques. [i like funny movies, aromatherapy, fresh air, aqua aerobics and healing touch massage.] My daughter took her NCLEX in CA on Friday, June 19th (just 75 questions too) and saw the results online early Tuesday morning, June 23. Her RN license is dated June 22. It was the best 7AM wakeup I've had in many years :) I'm sure you'll be delighted when you see your name on the CA board site too.
  9. Recent BSN graduates (2009) from an Accelerated program at another college in Southern California who received a Kaiser Forgivable Loan are NOT being offered fulltime RN positions almost 2 months post graduation per agreement. BSN + RN + Kaiser = nada Don't have a definitive response regarding repayment obligations yet.
  10. The most recent BSN graduates (2009) who are in the Kaiser Loan Forgiveness program are not pleased with the results. No fulltime RN payscale position with benefits being offered after almost 2 months post graduation. Current offering is subpar via what appears to be federal stimulus funding. Looks like Kaiser forgot they made a promise 2 years ago to this group.
  11. The Kaiser Loan Forgiveness program is not playing out as anticipated this year. BSN grads with RN are not being offered fulltime going rate positions almost 2 months after graduation. This is quite upsetting to everyone concerned. Be cautious, be wary, ask to talk to recent recipients to see if the program works for them.
  12. Current BSN graduates who accepted the Kaiser Forgivable Loan program are not working yet. Some have RN too. I wonder if the program will continue. Lots of disappointed people right now. Students did their part, Kaiser NOT doing their part.
  13. The Kaiser Loan Forgiveness Loan program recipients (now graduates for 2009) are not pleased with the outcome so far. Some wheels are turning now so we'll have to see how this works out. Even with a BSN and RN in hand they are not being offered fulltime positions at the stated rate for RNs with benefits almost 2 months after graduation. It also looks like federal stimulus money is involved.
  14. Glad to hear that the Kaiser Loan Forgiveness recipients from 2008 graduations received positions. Not so in 2009 (now).
  15. I recommend that people check out the results of the Kaiser Loan Forgiveness Program. The end result is not as it was presented.
